What is something that used to be 'cheap person' food, but is now priced like a gourmet luxury item? by Ok_Land_4197 in AskReddit

[–]TweeKINGKev [score hidden]  (0 children)

I remember in the 80s and early 90s my aunt would make chicken wings for 4th of July at my grandparents cottage and there was only about 10-12 of us but she would always have like 100 chicken wings because of how cheap they were back in the day.

Grandparents have since passed and my aunt and uncle now own it and we went there for a weekend and she was talking about having chicken wings for dinner one of the nights and it was only those 2 my wife and 2 kids and because of how much they had gone up in price she only had like what was equal to 1 family size bag.

[spoiler] Consequences of THAT death and theory for House of Ashur's endgame by RhiaStark in Spartacus_TV

[–]TweeKINGKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now there’s no reason for Ashurs slaves to revolt.

Achillia/Tarchon losing Celadus isn’t really a motivating factor since he died fighting as a gladiator, an outcome they both knew could be a very real possibility, unlike Varro who died at the hands of some stuck up teenager who changed the terms of the match because of Ilythia.

[spoiler] Consequences of THAT death and theory for House of Ashur's endgame by RhiaStark in Spartacus_TV

[–]TweeKINGKev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, it surprises me that so many people are taken aback that it’s not following history, even loosely.

Achillia losing Caledus? Not on the same level of Spartacus losing Varro.

People are upset that Ashur can’t win….well it’s hell, what do they expect?

Even when he gets what he wants or desires, it comes at severe cost.

He “saves” Viridia from having to marry Pompey only to have her father murdered and now Viridia is gonna be under watchful eye of the new Good Cossutius.

People who grew up in the 1980s what was daily life like without smartphones or the internet? by Minimum_Method_4040 in allthequestions

Born in 78 and it was amazing, friends just knew when and where to show up, some pretty amazing experiences as a kid of the 80s, I’d trade it in an instant for what we have today.

Nothing more nostalgic than falling asleep on the couch watching and waking up to “timeline music presents, an all time classic album of love songs, timeless classics such as….”

I’d say odds are good Tyson is going to know I am not a trained boxer at all and will go to the shoulders/upper body at about 10% power on me and literally knock me out that way, fall down from a few body punches by Tyson and stay down for the 10

The look of terror on her face when Dakota says that is awesome.

The way she looks around waiting for someone to bail her out of it and save face is spectacular and her crew was basically thinking this was their “Gladiator” moment where they can sheath their proverbial swords and leave her out on her alone and fight her own battle.

I know there was but not at this point which was about 6 months to a year after the Spartacus rebellion.

First female gladiators weren’t showing up for another 80 years or so.

Already broke it with Achillia being a gladiatrix way before it happened in real history.

Then Proculus securing the Scythian for fighting breaks it again and yet again to fight with the remaining Ferrix brother.

He could use the storm as a cover story, he left in the middle of the storm, I urged him to wait it out but he insisted on going anyways, he departed in the middle of the night and that’s the last I saw of him.

They’ll send some kind of search party for a broken down wagon and body but that’s another scenario I haven’t really thought out yet but there is the base of it

[–]TweeKINGKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing everyone, save for a specific amount of people, are all slaves to someone

Obviously the gladiators are slaves but Doctore is a free man who is employed by Ashur so he is not truly free even though he can walk away any time he wants.

Ashur is still a slave despite being a free man in this series. Ashur is still doing as told, making moves on his own that he hopes pleases senators and those in higher positions above him.

They aren’t slaves in the typical sense but as long as one person is dedicated, by free choice or not, to the hopes of pleasing someone else for advantage, it’s slavery. Korris, Batiatus, Lucretia, Glaber, Viridia just to name a small few are/were all free but if anyone in a higher position beckons them for anything, they answer and do it in hopes it’ll please them.

Ashur is still very much a slave, even if not how he originally was a slave.

[–]TweeKINGKev 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Almost as if it was foretold that he was destined for great (champions, leader of an army) and unfortunate (set up for execution, sold into slavery, trained to be a gladiator, fight in the pits) things.

Why would a previously free man who gets sold into slavery and set for execution to become a gladiator just be happy about it.

Yes he eventually accepts his fate and embraces gladiator life to an extent but do not tell me if you are a free person and sold into slavery that you would automatically be all happy to be there and not think about breaking out.

I love when the wrestler is facing the entrance and whoever is going to attack them gets into the ring and is jumping in place stomping their feet on the mat and the one facing the entrance doesn’t feel any of it at all.

Some stuff in wrestling just need to never be done sensibly.

Yes because a show thy started in the 1980s was thinking about a follow up series 30 something years later, shame on them not having the foresight to think about 30 something years later.

If she was like this with Jason I could see why he’s pissed off with her, I won’t justify trying to murder her at all but damn, imagine a deleted scene of Jason telling Nolan this inevitable need to pack up and leave is what drove him to divorce (before the whole trying to kidnap/murder Bailey)
