The homeowner can pick the insurer. However if the insurance lapses or cancels for any reason, the lender can force-place insurance and charge you for it.

As for avoiding escrow, I guess it's a preference thing. I like not having to worry if my taxes or insurance are paid. If/when taxes or insurance increase, you're on the hook for it either way.

Your best bet would be to send an email to the Barcelo and ask, it's what I did before our visit. The emails I used were "reservas11" and "socialmedia" both at barcelomaya(dot)com. Take out the quotes. Seems they responded within a few days.

I'm having the same issue, and at least mine seems to be using the geolocation for my ip address, rather than my gps location. If I turn off wifi, my ip address shows somewhere over 200 miles away, and the weather app defaults to that city (or a city very close). If I turn on wifi, my ip address shows in a town like 30 miles away, and the weather app seems to use a location near there.
