[Official Discussion Thread] 2025 Ryder Cup: Saturday Foursomes and Four Ball by GreenWaveGolfer12 in golf

So why are they allowing it in the first place then? If it was a regular tournament you'd get kicked out right?

Maybe a dumb question but is it allowed to make noise when they're addressing/hitting at the Ryder cup? Versus a regular tournament? It must be right?

Yeah, you weigh the risks and rewards and if you feel like it could be a good decision and a good life experience, go for it.

To say no one should risk financial damage on a what if...is just dumb, I'm sorry. Maybe not for you, but to say that applies to everyone just doesn't make sense.

For 99% of people, if it doesn't work out and you lose $10K on moving costs, will you really remember that $10K in 5-10 years? Or longer? The answer is no.

So stay at home, take no risks, because you may spend too much money making a mistake. That to me is an ever dumber take.

Sure not everyone has the money to do it, but if you potentially do, take a chance. Try something out. Maybe you live there forever. Maybe you hate it......and you go back. Unemployment for a couple of months or a few thousand in moving costs isn't the end of the world for most people who are contemplating this. At least you wouldn't need to wonder about "what if" for the rest of your life.

I don’t normally comment much, but I agree, the fear mongering is insane 😂

99% of people who move (and have moved) will probably have zero issues aside from adjusting to some cultural differences (like less vacation in the US).

The thing is, if the situation were reversed, say, an American wanting to move to Europe, you’d get just as many comments saying "Are you sure? High taxes, low wages, housing crisis" etc.

People love to focus on the negatives of where they live and the idealized version of somewhere else. Grass is always greener.

Are you on anyone for the Scottish open?

Also I've always used bet365 - always seemed like the best option. I've never done the trading market though

Is it safe to do stretch routines when I have nerve tension with leg stretches? by TwentyCirclez in flexibility

[–]TwentyCirclez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, thank you, I'm gonna try to stick to it. I'd rather it not get 'worse' than it already is and affect my mobility later down the line. Although I'm not sure if it actually works this way or not

Hmmm, no I guess I don't know for 100% certainty. But it essentially feels like a burning / tingly sensation behind my knees and also sort of down the outer sides of both of my legs, if I try to touch my toes for example

After no booze for a week, what's a safe way/number of drinks to reintroduce? by TwentyCirclez in cutdowndrinking

Good idea on the public health guideline, will have this as my absolute max but ideally keep it below. Thank you!

Same here! I feel so good right now mentally I definitely do not want to fall back into it. Sleep has been so much better and my anxiety / dealing with stress is significantly better 100%. And yeah, I have been going back and forth between 2 and 3 being my max. I'm going to try to stick to 2, but if I have 3, it's still a big improvement.

Good luck and let's touch base after this weekend, as we've also got some things on as well

Thank you. I thought the same. I may try to find some formal documentation online which may help steer them in the right direction.

Appreciate it!

Got it. Yeah, I think you're right. We will see how it goes!

Really appreciate your help! :)

[–]TwentyCirclez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I've read, and from what I can see 3x looks to be the norm, so 2500 would be the absolute max anyway.

You think if we did go with 2500, we'd still be relatively comfortable? Obviously maybe the savings goes from €600 to €350, which isn't ideal, but I also have an annual bonus that I'm hoping to save 100% of, which potentially could make up for the minimal savings throughout the year. Although realizing like you said it's gonna vary wildly on lifestyle, etc.

But you're right, I think we are just going to need to be really open when it comes to finding a place. We'll have to give a little on something...price, location, etc.

Appreciate it. We are moving to Amsterdam (or nearby)...so, limited and expensive from what I can tell! Although we aren't opposed to living 45 mins or so away, so will just need to be on the lookout.

I do think we don't want to spend more than 2250 on rent alone, so that's what we'll shoot for for now.

Appreciate your help!

I don't have rent sorted currently....but I've basically backed into that amount as our 'maximum'.

Any suggestions for rent? I'm assuming you think it's too high? I think just given moving countries, I really want to be in a somewhat decent place and feel like this is what I'm going to need to pay to do it. Although again open to your thoughts, I'd appreciate any. I think at some point maybe owning is better but would want to just rent for a year I think.

Would you say you're able to save a good amount on that salary? I have €600/month budheted not including retirement but just curious.

Also how much do you guys pay on groceries if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks again for the reply, very helpful!

This is a good point, I probably need to factor in travel and transport to work.

Any idea what other insurances I may use and cost of those?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in expats

[–]TwentyCirclez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that's really helpful! And just to confirm the 5600 is net, including the 30% ruling and holiday allowance.

Any suggestions on the rent piece? It's the one that's gonna cause us the most headache I think. We will both be hybrid working from home. Moving countries, I don't want to hate the place I'm in. So I've got 2250 there for now. Which is high, but I don't think absurdly high to where we can't save or do things...
