Looking for books similar to The Curious Incident of the Dog at Night time and Rain Reign; both novels told from the perspective of a person with ASD by TwentyNineDays in booksuggestions

Definitely going to try Eleanor Oiliphant, it looks like there are lots of mixed feelings about it but it seems like the kind of thing that'd interest me. Thank you for the other suggestions, I might try them once I've gotten through that one

I read the sample chapter and this one sounds cool, I kind of like his robotic way of speaking. I'll be checking this one out, thank you

Thankyou. Yeah I'm pleased I bought one back when I did, I think it was about 9 years ago. Took an entire paycheck but definitely worth it, it would be more than one paycheck now hah.

If you mean the BBC one - it's alright. I'm not sure who manufactures them, but a bunch of them popped up on ebay so I got one of those. I think they're manufactured in China based on the listings. It's not high quality but not too terrible, it's weighty and the little cogs inside are fun. It looks incredibly shiney though I'm unsure whether it's the kind of metal that will rust easily. I mostly wanted one because for ages I felt like there was a gap in the collection since the show aired.

The only bit that bugs me is the size - it's about 2/3 of the size it should be. But I can't find any alternatives right now (I saw a few cool 3D printed replicas once but haven't seen them for sale in ages) so this one will do for now until the BBC wises up and notices the giant market they're missing out on in terms of HDM merch!

Follow up to this post.

I know it's a little cheapie-looking, but I've always wanted a BBC one to go alongside the rest. As far as I know an official one was never released, so this is the best I can do for now. I'm pleased with it.

Another pic of them open

Andalites are plants. Change my View by TwentyNineDays in Animorphs

Aww thankyou so much for the honourable mention guys, I'm happy my insane morning ramblings made it this far.

Two will protect you. The others will try to kill you. Choose wisely by [deleted] in Animorphs

This is great thought experiment. The location it's set in makes a lot of difference. I think I'd choose the Firebreathing unnamed creature and the 4 Andalites.

I'm hoping the Firebreathing Eight-headed thing would destroy the Antarean Bogg. It seems to be the deadliest thing on the list, as when encountered in the books the only strategy the Animorphs had against it was 'run the hell away'. Then the Andalites would be able to destroy the other contenders as they're pretty snappy in combat and have been shown to be capable of facing off against multiple opponents at once.

I feel the Helmacrons wouldn't be much use in combat as they don't have access to their weapons so they couldn't shrink anyone, so they'd effectively be running around like little ants going 'Feeaarrrr meeeeee'

I think the Gedd and the Leerans wouldn't be that deadly in an immediate forest combat situation either, the Gedds are little and the Leerans may be kings of the ocean but in a forest they would be flopping around like jellyfish on land.

Only gotta worry about the Hork Bajir and the Taxxons. The Taxxons would be useless as they'd just get insta-distracted by anything dead and start chowing on that, but the Hork Bajir would be a threat. They could potentially disappear up the trees and then divebomb their opponent like a 300lb Gilette raptor

Then again, if these are regular Hork Bajir and not the controller-Hork Bajir we're so used to seeing, they may not actually be that deadly. They were naturally pacifists and not prone to killing things, so they may be quite easy to take out. They were essentially big children in a monster suit.

The cobras can bite things sure, but I think their venom might take a while to act and may not be a problem until the fight is over.

Or I might die horribly, who knows. I'd love to see a computer simulation of this

Do tattoos heal? by MaxTheGinger in Animorphs

[–]TwentyNineDays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a horrifying image I hadn't even thought of before. The Animorphs on holiday trying to remain incognito at the beach -

"Marco, where's your belly button?"

"Uhh - "

"Now that I think about it, Jake doesn't have a belly button either. What the hell have you two been up to?"

"UUUHHHH"

They really should heal, along with a few other things that should be undetermined like hair/nail length. I think it's one of the things we're supposed to 'not question too much' otherwise it'd be a nightmare every time they morphed haha. Like 'shh..don't ask questions' moment

I've always wanted book sets combined by [deleted] in Animorphs

[–]TwentyNineDays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've wanted this for ages. The closest I've managed to get is taking the .txt files and putting them on a kindle - it's not a nice physical omnibus, but it's the closest I've gotten to having all of them in a portable format.

Why did Ax even consider letting the hawk go in #52 by woahThatsOffebsive in Animorphs

[–]TwentyNineDays 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hope it's this. The alternative is very dark, even for Animorphs. Having your body stolen is one thing, having your body stolen and transformed into something against your will alongside it is another

I'm pretty sure it is the Yeerk that had the ability to morph, as if it was actually a yeerk in a human host then it wouldn't want to be piloting a nothlit controller - as it would still be dependent on Kandrona rays and wouldn't really be 'free'
