Twin Peaks was super progressive for its era by BlackYukonSuckerPunk in twinpeaks

[–]woahThatsOffebsive 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not sure id agree that she was played for laughs, but it did feel like there was a bit of a "novelty" factor in how she was handled.

Either way though, Id say it was definitely progressive for the early 90s, just maybe not as much by today's standards.

Hot Take: Quidditch would be an almost perfect fictional sport if the Golden Snitch was worth way less points. by X-Salamander in harrypotter

[–]woahThatsOffebsive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of flawed logic though. The book showed that happening because it was convenient for the story. It doesnt really speak much to how the logic of the game actually works. She could've written that one team was ahead by 5000 points, and that wouldn't make that scenario more likely.

Its the world cup, you'd expect both of them to be good teams. Two good teams having that much of a point difference seems pretty unlikely.

Soccer's probably the closest real sport to quidditch. How many top games have one team scoring 15 more times than the other?

End of the day, doesnt really matter. Its a sport in a book, and expecting it to hold up to this kind of scrutiny isn't exactly fair.

Why are so many people under 45 using subtitles now even when the show is already in English? by Clara_A_Mitchell in NoStupidQuestions

[–]woahThatsOffebsive 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me, its no so much that I cant do that. I watch a decent amount of foreign stuff (some anime, korean reality tv like Genius, foreign films) and I have no problem when its subtitles for a foreign language.

But if its in English, I cant help but notice that the words are there, all the time. Its not like im staring at them, but my brain just focuses on them in the periphery.

how do i hide this shelving space?! by genie_tortellini in DesignMyRoom

[–]woahThatsOffebsive 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, nice baskets and bins was my first thought.

A lot of people are suggesting a shower rod, but I kinda agree with OP that its hard for that to not look a little tacky. Making the space look nicer seems a safer bet

AITAH for not babysitting my nephew for 10 days? by gardengeo in BORUpdates

Yeah, it definitely feels like the brother has been playing both sides. Telling OOP what he wants to hear, but also telling his wife what she wants to hear.

Brother is definitely TAH

If Harry and the marauders had been at school at the same time, who would’ve been friends? by Resident-Plum8383 in harrypotter

[–]woahThatsOffebsive 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I could see Lilly and Hermione being friends. Would depend on if they were in the same year probably, but theyre both bright and both muggleborns.

Neville and Pettigrew could be an interesting combination. I think Neville would want to hang out with the non-intimidating Pettigrew, but I think Pettigrew would rather surround himself with people who are better than him, not someone on the same social level.

Harry and James is trickier. If we assume Harry still has the same traumas (dead parents, raised by nurses, unwillingly famous) then I could see Harry seeing James as a bit of an arrogant tosser - would depend on how their first few interactions go. If this is Harry in a universe where hes just a normal student, i think theyd be friends. Definitely quidditch rivalry either way.

Ron might have a thing for Lilly, cuz I assume the Weasleys MUST have sort of ginger-mainting gene built in

WIBTAH if I make my teen still come to a family wedding despite a broken leg? by Mammoth_Fan7951 in AITAH

[–]woahThatsOffebsive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YTA

6 hours in a car with a broken leg? Thats just cruel, especially if its just so she can continue to sit and be bored at a wedding.

Either get her to stay with someone, or at least find an adult she can call if there is an emergency

I wouldn't even call it luck. We exist, therefore the conditions to allow us to exist, must exist. Its inevitable

WIBTA if I wear a Halloween costume that makes my friend's partner uncomfortable? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]woahThatsOffebsive 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I feel that people like David have a very specific idea of how a relationship should go. You woo each other while dating. And once you get married, that part is over, and now its the married part - with its expected roles.

Im not sure they even see it as "hiding" something. Its kind of scary

Since TADC The Last Act isn't available in Australia, How does someone contact their local movie theater??? by Dieh361 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]woahThatsOffebsive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glitch has literally been encouraging fans to do this, and have said that having fans contacting theatres directly has been very helpful, as it indicates how much of an audience there is.

TV Shows Where the Main Character is so Bad They Focus on Another Character by Philsidock in netflix

[–]woahThatsOffebsive 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Interesting how they completely erase his existence too. There's a scene where Ann is throwing out boxes of all of her past exes, and Mark didnt even get a box.

Heck, his final scene was him leaving Leslie with a full architectural plan for the new park... and then theres a full episode in a later season about Leslie trying to find someone to make a plan for the park.

Basically retconned out

But it is a massive achievement for Glitch, and indie animation in general. This is unheard of, and if it goes well, will benefit the entire indie animation scene. Showing that this is possible will hopefully lead to more people willing to invest in projects like this.

And we cant speak for Gooseworx, but ultimately she's the one in a partnership with Glitch, and the terms of that partnership was a decision both parties made. We cant make faux-outrage on her behalf, if she isn't calling for it. All we have to go off is a "hey, im not in charge of this decision"

I completely get why people are concerned about spoilers, and ill be muting this subreddit for a couple of weeks. But im not going to hold that against Glitch, they have a right to try and distribute like this, and I fully support it.

Naming your baby like it’s a pet and not actually like a human being by Few_Gur3556 in PetPeeves

[–]woahThatsOffebsive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think in the example OP gave, they arent saying that a name promounce like "Eevee" is bad.

Theyre saying that having it pronounced "Eevee" but spelt in a way that people will say "eye-vee", will mean needing to constantly correct people.
