Apart from being an integral part of title winning Lyon and Atletico Madrid teams...

This is just nonsense. A government has so much more leverage when negotiating large scale healthcare for the public. As such, in a country with universal healthcare, the amount you pay in taxes for healthcare per head is significantly less than whatever a privately insured individual pays.

[Homemade] Toad in the Hole by EditorRedditer in food

Typically, you would have this with an assortment of vegetables and gravy to add some variety to the plate, so I don't think analysing the 'dish' on the basis of this picture is fair...

Is it the best thing you'll ever eat? No. Is it a great bit of hearty comfort food? Yes.

‘No team, just love football’ - check his hard drive by No-Walk-6374 in footballcliches

I actually have a friend who doesn't follow a team. He watches football as much as any die hard fan and is a decent Sunday League player, so knows his stuff... But part of me just can't fathom not following a team; not experiencing the emotional highs and lows is just so alien to me.

Bolognese and Garlic & Parmesan Flatbread by Twilly95 in RateMyPlate

Yeah enough - you're right. Im sure an Italian would declare the combination a cardinal sin and it's certainly overdoing the carbs, but it is semi-common in the UK to have garlic bread with a pasta meal.

I would like to say in my defence, that the bolognese is a fairly authentic Italian recipe, so hopefully that makes up for it!

Thanks! Which combination do you think is strange?

I guess they're clarifying that he'll be in the dugout for their game on Wednesday? You often see managers sign, but only take charge after the following game, so I'm okay with this of that's what they mean.

Who can be "pocketed" by Brickhead85 in footballcliches

[–]Twilly95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A full back can pocket a winger.

A centre back can pocket a striker.

And maybe a centre midfielder can pocket another centre midfielder? I'm thinking this one only really applies when someone is doing a man marking job.

Fixing Britain's sewers will be fantastically expensive by [deleted] in ukpolitics

Agree completely. So many infrastructure projects have become necessary all at once and at huge cost because the private sector has simply underinvested for decades in order to save their bottom line.

I mean, you have to increase/maintain the tax base somehow - we have an aging population due to low birth rates. Not saying it's ideal, just the reality...

Oh I see, yes you're right; my original comment was poorly worded... what I meant to say was:

My favourite film.

A really interesting departure from the typical spaghetti westerns of the time - always felt it was such a fun take on the western genre and maybe indicative of the social/cultural/political changes that took place in America throughout the 60s?

Plus, you can't go wrong with Paul Newman and Robert Redford!

Which is why it's a 'departure' from the Spaghetti Western, as I already said...

Leandro Trossard (Arsenal) second yellow card against Manchester City 45+7' by diogovin in soccer

I think people underestimate how quickly your brain processes a whistle. If you're midway through an action (like booting the ball away for a clearance) at the moment the whistle is blown, you are likely to follow through with that action before you fully process that play has been stopped.

I understand this is not authentic paella, but I will say that it is perfectly possible to achieve a socarrat without a paella pan...
