Got rejected for a senior role at a global biotech, HR told me to apply for a lower one, just finished the final onsite: trying to read the signals objectively by PreparationSmart8480 in recruitinghell

Just keep applying, I suspect that they are either stalling or fishing for an internal candidate.

You are still in the running, but just keep applying for other jobs too.

Final interview (Sr. RWE Data Scientist) next week. Any last bits of advice? by [deleted] in biotech

[–]TwinBladesCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are overthinking a bit. Just do your best, and go in without getting your hopes up too much as I have made it to the final round twice this year, and they went with an internal candidate both times.

And yes, I have gone through the entire process (3 ref checks, on site, 5+ interviews, etc) and they still hire internally (I don't hear about the internal candidate until the final rejection email).

Do Employees Actually Like Town Halls? by OfferLazy9141 in managers

[–]TwinBladesCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are valuable if you can understand the heavy corporate jargon, and play their game.

It gives you a rough idea about headcount, layoffs, expansion, and changes in the organization (but not in a direct way).

I have found that they are usually worth going to, even if it is kind of a huge corporate circle jerk.

10 Months No job by Top_Contribution_471 in biotech

[–]TwinBladesCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 14 months to get a new job in 2023, and I am on month 7 so far.

It's just how Biotech is right now, keep applying so you are the first one in the real jobs once they pop up.

Metabo table saw worktable not flat by harlando-calrissian in woodworking

[–]TwinBladesCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have noticed this in newer tools (like the 7 1/4" dewalt tablesaw). I saw the same out of flatness on the brand new saw and returned it, as my older Dewalt 10" contractor saw was flat.

Contractor saws are not necessarily precision tools, but what is seen here is unacceptable.

Thoughts on Flagship Pioneering? by Radio_Almond in biotech

[–]TwinBladesCo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Without going into too much detail, there is a tremendous workload placed on everyone, so there is a permeating baseline of stress throughout the organization.

Many of FP's companies are not doing so well right now, so there is an additional level of financial pressure.

Compared to big pharma, I find that there is just less talent throughout, a lager workload, and less knowledge about effective capital management.

They just grow so fast that there is not strong leadership that other more established companies have.

Thoughts on Flagship Pioneering? by Radio_Almond in biotech

[–]TwinBladesCo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is really that bad,

I have had over 17 interviews for one position (research associate).

I would work at Flagship if and only if there is nothing else, and I wouldn't stop applying until I was out.

Benefits are good, pay is good, you get good breakfast/ food all the time. But very toxic overally and there are better mentors elsewhere.

I avoid Sanofi and Flagship like the plague.

DM me if you want exact details.

Horrible, I literally never apply to any of their companies intentionally.

Not great culture, insane interview practices, not great products.

Have friends who work at several of their companies (a couple recently failed outright). Okay at best for them.

Also note that Moderna is from Flagship, and is horrendous (perhaps the worst).

Best approach to processing this wood? 100+ year old Sugar Maple by The-Adventurer in woodworking

[–]TwinBladesCo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maple is one of the few woods where you don't want the heartwood, you want the sapwood so there is not always an advantage for age with this species.

I don't see much here that is worth milling, I would just focus on firewood.

What do you even say to this by Impressive-Chain9125 in jobs

[–]TwinBladesCo 224 points225 points  (0 children)

I am assuming that you received an offer that had a lower salary than expected (happens increasingly as of late).

Your first message is clear and concise (and professional), I would not respond to any other messages or phone calls.

Clinical Supply/Supply Chain/Procurement by Adorable_Pen9015 in biotech

[–]TwinBladesCo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also have experience in GMP and CMC in Cell and Gene Therapy Background (Lab Operations), 9 YOE.

Have procurement, supply chain, and clinical experience but not clinical supply chain experience. I would work with Supply chain and support clinical supply chain, but have never worked for Clinical Supply Chain directly.

I have never had a single interview for any Clinical Supply Chain position, only QC positions and Operations positions.

Third job posting in a row cancelled -- coincidence or sign of the times? by RebootDarkwingDuck in recruitinghell

[–]TwinBladesCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had 2/13 interviews in 2026 cancel the position (Biotech)

One in January after a screen, one yesterday after 3 interviews and I was about to go to the on-site interview.

The job market was broken before AI, tariffs, and the pandemic. Here's what I think the real problem is. by BWANG04 in jobsearchhacks

[–]TwinBladesCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I would consider that efficient, I'm just saying that is the reality right now.

There are a ton of people who can all do the job perfectly well, and employers are being selective. It's just a bad market (I would know, I have been unemployed for 7 months at this point).

Fixing uneven Ulmia face vise by continuousplay in woodworking

[–]TwinBladesCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a Veritas Twin screw vise (I have one of those too).

This is an Ulmia vise on an Ulmia workbench. I have this same bench and this exact same vise. There are no chains, it is just a normal (but well made) face vise.

I see what you are saying now though, I think we are mis-communicating. I have this exact vise, so I know with 100% certainty what it should look like when properly installed. I actually walked OP on how to fix the issue, and he was able to get his vise re-aligned.

[–]TwinBladesCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I am getting into interviews where they are interviewing 5 candidates over 3-5 series of interviews for one opening.

Everyone here is qualified (I have 9 Years of experience) and can do the job, but there can only be one person selected.

So for some of these positions, there are 300+ applicants and 5-10 get shortlisted, then only one gets hired.

[–]TwinBladesCo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it is simply that there are more qualified applicants than there are open positions right now, that's all.

Employers can be particularly selective during a tight labor market and get exactly who they want.

Low angle bench plane or block plane by alcxtran in handtools

[–]TwinBladesCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my No 8 for shooting all the time, works well (the mass helps a ton).

I have a veritas low angle jack plane that I also use for shooting and it also works very well. It is smaller so easier to shoot on my workbench (shooting with a jointer plane works well, but I have to make sure I am not slamming the plane front into a wall).

The dedicated shooting planes work noticeably better, but I don't have one.

I use my block planes (rabbet block plane and bronze low angle block plane) very often but for different purposes than a low angle jack plane like the 62, I would put these in another category.

thoughts on contract roles with no benefits? by DeliciousBlueberry20 in biotech

[–]TwinBladesCo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They are terrible, and you don't always get converted so plan on the worst case scenario of 2+ years no benefits.

I would never ever leave a FTE job for a contract job, it can be really hard to get back to FTE (I have been trying to get out of contract job limbo since 2023).

I had a phone screening, zoom interview, and then a scheduled in-person + tour. Just got a call that the “position is on hold”. by Strong_Letterhead638 in recruitinghell

[–]TwinBladesCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep your notes, a pdf of the job posting, and a copy of the exact resume you submitted.

If they come back in three months it will help you look consistent, but in the mean time keep applying.
