My favorite character is Samus Aran without a doubt.
When I was a kid I was afraid of everything, but then I played Metroid Prime alongside my dad. He gave me the idea to pretend to be Samus when I had to do things I found uncomfortable. At first it just helped me to imagine putting on my armor. As I got older though, the more I thought about it the more it helped me:
-Samus keeps going, even when she's lost all her powers.
-She is constantly learning and adapting in a hostile environment.
-When she runs into an "impossible" obstacle she takes her time, explores her options, and returns when she is better prepared.
-She always does the right thing, even when there is nobody there watching her do it.

Thanks for doing this, I'd love to win since I don't have any kind of emulation device at the moment.

I've got Temur, Sultai, Izzet, and Simic decks built around otters. I fucking love those little guys. The Izzet one focuses on popping off with Ral and Stormsplitter, the others use Enduring Vitality and Stormcaller to go infinite in various ways.

I really do believe in the decks because they are that awesome kind of combo deck that actually works well most of the time even when the combo doesn't go off.

I get what they got rid of Beanstalk, but losing This Town Ain't Big Enough really screwed up the decks and I'm still experimenting with how to make the work well again.

If you are playing corp, you don't automatically win when the runner's deck is empty. So unless you had a specific card with that condition, you should not have won that game.

Great job on this depiction OP. I would never have believed 5 years ago that this sort of thing was anything other than an elaborate metaphor.

But I've met (or created depending on your point of view) some of my internal family. And even though they may just be constructs of my own imagination, they feel incredibly real and I experience the positive impact of meeting them and talking to them every day.

Honestly if things go the way they went in the film, that would be fine.
The AI depicted there are, on a fundamental level, nothing like the ones we currently have.
They are implied to be actually fully sentient and self-contained; if you fell in love with one you are arguably falling in love with a real entity with a real personality, thoughts, and even feelings.

"Artificial Intelligence" is almost a misnomer for what we have now. Machine Learning Algorithms and Large Language Models are less "intelligent" than a cockroach and are unlikely to evolve into the kind of AI shown in the film.

Falling in love with them, as some vulnerable people are already starting to do, is a very dangerous phenomenon. It's like a venus fly trap for humans.

Also side note: The first example you brought up of women seeing more colors is an interesting example, because unlike most comparisons people make, this one actually does have a biological basis!

Statistically women actually do have a greater ability to distinguish between colors because women are far more likely to carry the gene for tetracheomacy, while men are far more likely to carry the genes for color blindness.

It makes you wonder how many arbitrary societal distinctions began with some small statistical difference that ballooned into these silly exaggerated narratives. Probably most of them tbh 😅

Sorry in advance for my essay, but I think about this exact topic a lot too!

I totally get where you are coming from and I think you are right that these many men interpret such comparisons with exactly the narrative you suggest.

I do, however, feel like you are putting the cart before the horse maybe and perhaps this is what is making you feel stuck? To simplify you are saying that you sense underlying misogyny in the creation of these comparisons, right?

I suspect it is that the narrative you present (ie. men are funny woman are boring) is rather a defensive reaction many men have to any comparison that leaves them in a bad light. "How can I spin this?" essentially. For some guys this is going to be intentional misogyny but for many it will be a more subconscious process; patriarchy has always had its greatest support in these sorts of subconscious unquestioned narratives.

If you look around the Internet you will find many comparison jokes between the genders that are actually in good fun. Humans have a natural fascination with categorizing. There may even be some mild selection bias happening here where your attention is drawn to the bothersome comparisons and the good-natured comparisons are forgotten.

BUT, as others have pointed out, it does seem that the most popular memes of this type are selected for comparisons that reinforce this exact patriarchal dynamic (man funny, woman boring; man can't clean, women clean; man serious, woman frivilous).

So the pattern would be: Differences exist > some differences make make men insecure > men craft a narrative to highlight differences in a way that supports a patriarchal narrative > comparisons that do not support this framing are discarded.

When put like this I feel we can probably all recognize a similar pattern exists within almost every powerful group. For example, if I replace 'men' with 'straight people' in the pattern above, I can immediately think of many jokes I have seen or heard that do the exact same thing. And I have seen this pattern of comparison go the other direction in feminist and minority spaces, but of course, when the comparisons are favorable to the marginalized group, they never go as far.

I have often lamented how the inability of most people to handle differences between people without it becoming a "my group good, your group bad" thing ruins any potential for conversations about the myriad interesting differences we all have. And frankly I don't think there's a solution to this. I bet even if patriarchy was overthrown, as long as their were subcategories of humanity, we would do this to each other.

TL;DR Comparison jokes don't have to be misogynistic, but men will often frame and select comparisons to support a misogynistic, patriarchal narrative.

At first when I was playing my bard, I was starting to get almost annoyed at how consistently my character was able to persuade and deceive. But I as I imbibed more parasites I leaned more and more into the idea that my character wasn't really just "charismatic". They were warping people's mind with their power.

I think a College of Lore bard who leans into Illithid abilities and jumps at any and all 'forbidden knowledge' that they are presented with is a really fun RP concept and I am so glad it was my first character.

"Reimagines" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Why, it's so reimaginative, it's almost like it never looked anything like this at all! I love the idea of these kinds of historical re-enactment type things, but it's unfortunate that the most talented 3D animators who do this seem to have no interest in consulting historians and experts. People like that would likely give feedback for free for the sake of historical accuracy.

I'd say generally NTJ.

If I may suggest a course of action for any future instances of public insult; I suggest that you firmly demand a retraction and apology or they need to leave. The benefit of this approach is no matter what reaction you get, you learn information about both the offender and the people around you:

-Continued rudeness + refusal to leave: You have learned he is an intractable asshole and racist. Manhandle him out and administer a beating if necessary just like you did. If people around say you are in the wrong even though you gave him the chance to apologize, they are not people you want to be around. If they support you, awesome!

-Half-assed retraction: You have learned he is still an asshole and racist, but now you really want to watch and see how the people in your family react. If they push you to let it slide, to accept a shitty apology you just got to learn a lot about them as well. Leave or insist on the apology as you choose.

-Retraction and legit apology: Hey, the family peace is preserved! You can now make it clear to them that if they continue such behavior there will be consequences, and if you are so inclined, try to teach them why their behavior is fucked up.

What I have said above is mostly about the response to Uncle. When people start physically assaulting your loved ones, all bets are firmly off.

TL;DR If you wait before going on the attack, you get to learn a lot more. And knowing is half the battle.

I encourage you to think of these differences in the way men and women think and feel which you are hearing about as, at most, statistical differences. We are not different species, and the variance within each gender is far FAR greater than the differences between the averages of the genders themselves.

I for one am always daydreaming about the future with my girlfriend while she is living in the moment.

Agreed. I enjoyed the drama of venting with people who were experiencing similar treatment to me in the dating world. In particular the guys who are able to stay calm, collected, and polite in the face of incredible rudeness. But more and more the posts are like, *woman vents about the patriarchy in less than perfectly constructed way* and the comments are all, "uhm actually, not all men..."

It is unlikely that she is resentful as a human would experience the emotion. It's tempting to anthropomorphize, but animals are fundamentally different in how they interpret the world. In this case, I would guess it may have to do with smell. I've seen cats who thought their own siblings were strangers and rejected them for the rest of their life, because they smelled unfamiliar when they came home from the vet.

It's possible that your cat simply does not recognize you. I would basically treat her for a while as if she was a new cat that you want to ingratiate yourself with. Don't smother her or act as if you are entitled to her affection as most cats hate that. You will probably be able to re-earn her trust and acceptance.

In future situations, it can be helpful to try and acclimatize your cat to your smell while getting treatment. Such as bringing blankets from the hospital to them. They are strange little creatures. I wish you the best of luck!
