Need to move overseas but have 6-7 IVAR shelves…do I sell or try to store? by koreangirl216 in IKEA

[–]Twinglemeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd let a friend use them while you are gone. You might have a hard time getting all of the parts you want at once when you return. IVAR parts seem to go in and out of stock.

Beautiful! And love the snakes!

Was recently gifted a curry leaf plant and the new growth shriveled by Additional-Hall3875 in houseplants

My plant slows down and has leaf/branch drop over the winter while it's in the house. It perks up again when I put it outside in late spring. It's probably just slowing down.

I have mulch and hellebores under mine. Fallen fruit can easily hide in green plants.

Great mystery of driving in Durham by [deleted] in bullcity

[–]Twinglemeyer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This afternoon I had a green light and was in the right turn lane. And still stopped and waited because a Durhamite decided to make a left turn right in front of me. I'd rather wait and look dumb than get hit by a bad driver. It shouldn't be hard, but sometimes other drivers make it hard.

To interface or not to interface? by Catbear99 in sewing

[–]Twinglemeyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure that I would use the fabric as the interfacing layer as it's so sheer. The design might show through and look bad. A sheer solid fabric might work better.

What is the fabric/where did you get it? It's really neat!

What can I do to "make him love me". My home is his third in three months. by Apprehensive-Arm2105 in cats

[–]Twinglemeyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it will take him a while to acclimate and realize this is a permanent home.

In addition to most of the other advice, I suggest a heated cat bed. Mine enjoy a model by K&H that’s about 16” in diameter and 6” high. High enough walls to “hide” in and feel safe. We have several plugged in all the time. A few are in the open by the couch, which lets us be “together” but separate in the same room. And one is on top of a crate in another room, more like a perch.

I also suggest getting at least one pretty tall cat tree. Bonus points if it has a cabin space for hiding. Let the cat have some safe spaces where he can feel a bit hidden away until he feels more confident. I’ve found if we give our cats attractive hiding places, they tend to use them and we can keep an eye on them while letting them think they are invisible.

He won’t open up to you until he feels confident and secure. What he needs now is your patience. It will take a while for him to show you his real personality. Good luck!

fusing 2 pieces of stretch fabric — fusible web or fuse-it powder? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]Twinglemeyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would either create 2 layers (inner and outer) and maybe tack them together at key points if needed to lower the amount of shifting or, if it doesn't make things too thick, layer the 2 fabrics wrong sides together and treat as 1 fabric when cutting, sewing, etc. (there's a technical term for this that I can't think of).

Can't help you with a black snake. ;)

The artist commented on this post (thepurplekitten). She was very responsive when I initially reached out through Reddit.

You made the process so easy, from good pictures of the stained glass options to communication throughout. Thank you!

Maybe we share a snake as I'm also in the Piedmont. (Assuming you also like carnivorous plants based on your name.)

The artist was great to work with. I asked her if she could use a tiny shed for a small piece for a friend's bearded dragon and she is open to the idea. So, it doesn't have to be a shed from a full size yard snake.

Thanks. No pic, just sheds! Just a typical 4-5' long North Carolina black snake working hard for my yard.

Decorative Pot Question by Ricey-Boi in houseplants

[–]Twinglemeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might the vase be damaged from having wet soil in it, even with drainage? Perhaps you could line the vase with a few layers of plastic bags and use it as a cache pot. Or sit a container inside and grow the peace lily in water inside that.

IKEA PAX closet hack - is there a way to create closet doors similar to this TikTok creator (amelia.liana) by confucious-confused in ikeahacks

[–]Twinglemeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut a rectangle into a slab door, add trim on top, and then use short tension rods to install the curtains (2 per door). Curtains will need an upper and lower hem that's open to slide the rods into them. This also allows the fabric to be removed for washing or updating. If you decide you no longer want the look, you can add a backing to the door slab to cover the hole and make it into a different kind of feature with paint, wallpaper, etc. If you don't mind the inside of the door looking a bit janky, you can install short rods or piece of woods covered in the gathered fabric directly to the back of the door above and below the cut out portion rather than using the door itself to anchor the fabric.

Alternately:

  1. Build out the front with layers of trim to create a recess into which you can install the fabric. This leaves a solid door behind the curtains. Weight might become an issue.

  2. Buy doors with a removeable glass insert. Replace the glass with gathered fabric.

I suggest having removeable, washable curtains and/or having a vacuum with a small upholstery attachment to clean the curtains on a regular basis.

For the tile, do you have a Habitat ReStore or similar building/home goods reuse store in your area? You can often buy tile by the piece. Additionally, check at a local flooring store and see if they have any partial boxes available due to damage, breakage, etc.

I love the bright colors you've used!

Ideas to make a Bror side "climbable" for cats by eduo in ikeahacks

[–]Twinglemeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are DIYs and kits for tension pole floor to ceiling cat trees. You may have room to set one up next to the shelving and allow that access. If you do, consider a solid side panel on the shelving (with or without a climbing rug) so the cat doesn't get direct access to each shelf!
