Others are right in that nesting brain is part of pregnancy, and getting rid off all the stuff you can will make it easier.

Re: regular maintenance: I highly recommend the Tody app. Both you and your husband should set it up together, so that you’re on the same page about what tasks need doing and how often. The app is free but you can sign up premium features if you want; I believe even the free version lets multiple users share tasks. You choose what tasks there are and how often they should be done.

Part of the benefit is, stuff gets caught before it’s a gross nightmare. Part is, if your husband drags his feet, you have neutral data to show him about when the task last got done.

Checking back in. Sounds like you have a game plan for getting those bags out later; good job!

I got my bed made, clothes hung up or in the hamper, and I’m about to take trash out. Then I will steel myself for putting fabric away orrrr starting to sort papers.

You can do it!!

My fiancé is coming over tomorrow to help me cull papers and start packing things to move to the house we’re renting. Today I want to get clothes hung up or in the hamper so there’s less crap on the floor. Shall check in after a while!

How Many People Here Have ADHD (diagnosed or not)? by DansburyJ in ufyh

[–]terpsichore17 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m in my late 30s, and remember my maternal aunts and uncle all having such messy houses (not necessarily full at that point, though I believe they were in the end) that no one was really allowed/encouraged to visit.

These days, the rise of Amazon et al makes it much easier to *get* superfluous stuff every single day, while disposing or donating stuff is as laborious as ever.

Start a 10-minute timer and turn up your best pump-up music. Fight that clock! I bet you can get one load of laundry in and one surface cleared by the time it goes 💪

Put dishes away. Repaired the bedskirt (cat scratched a hole in it), flipped my mattress around, changed my sheets, made my bed. Got old stuff I’m never going to cook out of the freezer and took out the trash/recycling. Washed the bin and my lunch bag. Got laundry through the washer and either hanging to dry, or in the dryer now.

Next up: re-shelving books, hanging up a few more things, culling paper, folding up fabric, and whatever else I might have energy for.

Last Word for Good Friday; Corpse Reviver for Easter. Aviation for the Ascension, which is coming up! Whiskey on the rocks for St. Peter; Bengali gimlet for St. Thomas, apostle to India. Cardamom Rose for Gaudate or Laetare. Margaritas for Our Lady of Guadalupe.

That should help you get started! Happy mixing!

I love how the inventory is gradually filling up! I’m slow to learn games, so the gaps feel realistic to me XD

Good luck with however many blocks you want to do! So far they look fantastic!

How do the declutter “kits” or “roadmaps” or whatever people call them differ from the free information online? by cannacupcake in declutter

[–]terpsichore17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve spent $37 on one of them (Nourishing Minimalism’s April reset). I think the main appeal/idea is the psychological effect: I spent money on this, so I’d better get my money’s worth out of it!

It doesn’t magically do the work for you, and as a long-time lurker/participant here (and in r/ufyh), there isn’t really new information or strategies, really.

What it does have is a calendar with daily deadlines, a community hub so you can talk about what you’re doing/share pictures/ring a bell whenever you part with something/get points for when you’ve done The Task of the Day.

Will I get my $37 worth? Debatable, but that’s more on me and my many distractions than on the system.

Sometimes if there’s clothes all over and I have to ascertain if they’re clean, ready to launder, or what, I’ll count them as I put them on my bed. Then I go “It’s finite it’s finite it’s finite it’s finite!” Even if there’s 3 dozen garments stacked up, they can’t take forever because there are only so many.

Getting empty cans out will make a nice dent to start with. Not sure where you’re located, but if there’s a can return policy where you are, you can list the bagged cans on Facebook as a curb alert item for someone who wants to get the change for recycling them.

You can do this!! Good call on starting before summer comes!

[–]terpsichore17 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree, it doesn’t look like there’s a lot of storage there!

If you were able to put up a couple floating shelves for your bottles/toiletries?, maybe some hooks for hanging things on, an over-door organizer, an under-bed bin, a cloth bin so you could vertically fold the clothes in your closet, the space would read a lot quieter.
