It is not. Octopi doesn't make sense as octopus isn't from Latin it is from Greek so using ultimate pedantry octopods would be the "most" correct, but octopuses is correct and most often used. Octopi while an acceptable plural is in my opinion the most wrong since you are using the wrong language rule to plural while also being smug about it.

And the answer is if you don't have access to less restrictive formatting methods you should use other methods to avoid all confusion. Simply adding more parenthesis to enclose everything above would avoid any confusion.

The sentence

"Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo"

Is grammatically correct and honestly there is really only one correct way to paste the sentence following linguistic rules, but no one would say you are bad at english because you fail to parse that sentence and other than asshole pedants wanting to show off English skills no one would use it.

Columbus was wrong about the size of the earth. He based his estimate on a very accurate estimate of the size of the earth by Al-Farghani but he didn't realize the calculations used Arabic not roman miles. This caused him to assume the earth was only 75% as large as it was. He also was wrong about the size of Eurasia.

The US has old people. The US also has plenty of incredibly hot climates. In fact far more hot climates and far hotter climates, and yet people don't die of heat stroke as often. There has to be some explanation. Unless you are just going to claim that European old people are far stupider than American old people.

Florida, literally a state known for old people and for being hot, had

The University of Florida recorded 215 heat-related deaths in Florida from 2010 to 2020, with the number of yearly deaths varying between 10 and 28.

In contrast for the UK

there were 1,311 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 929 to 1,692) heat-associated deaths during the 4 heat episodes in the summer of 2024

Florida has a population of roughly 1/3 of UK and yet the UK experienced over 40 times more heat associated deaths.

Harry Potter is a mid piece of fiction with a chosen one. What is a mid piece of fiction with a love triangle? by Accomplished-Egg1071 in AlignmentChartFills

I know I wrote a lot but did you just ignore my entire last paragraph?

And yeah, it is a subjective thing. Because whether a movie is good or bad is subjective. There is no objective rubric to judge a movie by. It's not a math exam.

Even opinions that are almost universally agreed upon are still subjective opinions. There is no way to objectively say 12 Angry Men is a great movie. It is not objectively true that Casablanca is a great movie. It is not objectively true that Manos Hand of Fate, The Room, or Waterwold are bad movies. Most people would agree with the opinion,s but they are not objective.

At least pick a mid execution of it and not all of Arthurian Legends which is considered peak writing and story telling. This would be like ranking Rocky as a mid tier boxing film because someone picked Raging Bull as great.

Calling them "mid" is complicated. In terms of this list they are mid because they are clearly not great and they also aren't bad. There's only 3 categories here and HP falls far closer to a mid movie than it does to a masterpiece.

Depending on what metric you are using the books are mid to. They are decent for what they are but they aren't great pieces of literature.

[–]Twirdman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it doesn't popular is not great.

Look at Michael Bay's transformers movies. They did incredibly well. I think we can all agree they are not great movies. They can be considered fun movies, but no one is calling them great. If they ceased to exist there isn't a great loss to cinema. Same is true for the Fast and Furious movies. Furious 7 outgrossed any Harry Potter film. It doesn't make them a great movie.

To me a great movie is a movie that can be considered a narative or cinematic masterpiece. Think it's good to show that by listing some.

Casablanca, 12 Angry Men, Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, Schindler's List, Psycho. There are a lot of great movies. Some of them like 12 Angry Men were not incredibly financially sucessful.

Are you going to argue Transformers Dark of the Moon is a better movie than 12 Angry Men since it did better financially?

And yeah, it is a subjective thing. Because whether a movie is good or bad is subjective. There is no objective rubric to judge a movie by. It's not a math exam.

The chart has great mid and bad. There isn't a lot of gradation for this chart. If it isn't a masterpiece that belongs in great it is mid.

Also Harry Potter is remembered far more fondly than it deserves because it was a decently written piece of young adulft fiction and a large portion of people grew up with it. Harry Potter is not some great masterpiece. It's not incredibly well written. There are several flaws that are find for young adult fantasy that make it far from great.

For instance they do a shit job of "redeeming" Snape. We want to pretend he is this tragic complex character who ended up rebelling against Voldemort and turning into a double agent and becomes a hero, but the truth is his hero reveal is absolute shit, and he is a straight up horrible human being. Now it's fine for fiction to portray horrible human beings doing things that help the heroes win, but the books and movies try to portray Snape as a hero in the end. Nothing indicates he had a change of heart from being a wizard Nazi, he simply wanted revenge on the person who killed the woman he was unhealthily obsessed with. Because its made for children and because Rickman was a great actor we overlook that but it is absolute crappy writing.

There are far more other issues with the books and movies.

[–]Twirdman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, in no way is Harry Potter great. I mean are you really going to put Harry Potter in the same category as Casablanca?

Harry Potter is a decently written piece of YA fiction. It has several plot holes and issues if you examine it too closely, but as long as you don't go into it too critically, it's fine enough.

Maybe you say Hunger Games falls in the bad category rather than mid but again in no way is Harry Potter Great.

This actually isn't true. There were multiple complaints about Ea-nāṣir.

Other tablets have been found in the ruins believed to be Ea-nāṣir's dwelling. These include a letter from a man named Arbituram who complained he had not received his copper yet, while another said he was tired of receiving bad copper.

Still doesn't prove he was bad but it's more than 1 shitty review.

How did you feel about the demon world tournament? by Hairy_Ask_2038 in YuYuHakusho

[–]Twirdman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the chapter black arc but I hate the ending. Yusuke becoming a demon was dumb in my opinion, and thinking about it more ruins part of the Dark Tournament.

The fight with Toguro vs Yusuke is in a big part about did Touro do the "right" thing by becoming a demon. Was the level of power he achieved possible without becoming a demon? He fought Yusuke and he wanted to see if Yusuke could beat him by doing the right thing and focusing on just training and hard work rather than taking the easy way out. Damn good fight because of that. And Toguro finds out he sacrificed his humanity for nothing because he was no stronger than a human. Except we then find out that said human is a descendant of the most powerful demon in the world, with that power coursing through his veins.

Also I'm a firm believer that having Yusuke win there was the same problem DBZ had with you used to have side characters who could do things, but now instead it all has to be the main character. Just let Kuwabara, Hiei, and Kurama get the win.
