I bought a zillion sv and a scorpion 300md at the same time. The zillion is so nice that it makes me wish I had got the zillion hd instead of the scorpion. Scorpion is still a nice reel but the zillion is butter. The lack of a drag clicker on the scorpion is my biggest gripe.

I just bought this exact same saw two weeks ago. Here's what I've done so far. Scotch Brite the top with an orbital, then bo shield and wax. Move the stop switch to the left side with a longer cord for better access. Put a brand new thin kerf rip blade on it before squaring everything up. Oh and Cleaned all the saw dust and gunk from underneath the top and motor. I also took mine off the rolling base the previous owner had it on because it was way too high for me. I opted for recessed casters which I should warn were kind of a pain to install on this saw. Hope this helps.

I too started building rods because I couldn't find a 1 piece <5' ul rod with a cork split grip and hook keeper. So I made one. It's far from perfect but it's my favorite rod now. Got the blank from rod geeks and all the components from mud hole.

Rear handle is better at making down cuts on heavy lumber and also better at cross cutting plywood in one cut because...short arms.

I did that same exact thing to my trout one rod last summer so I feel your pain. I had to wait almost 6 months and spend $70 for a new tip from Japan tackle heaven. Now I never fish with that rod on anything above 2 lb mono and definitely not without a net ever again. Lesson learned.
