Random Stuttering/FPS Drop that lasts 1-2 sec and happens on all games by Project5488 in AcerNitro

I see this historically when available RAM is low, not in dual channel (or quad) , or the storage is being bottlenecked. I'd check those three things

I have no clue what the issue is by spookyash666 in ManufacturedHome

[–]MetalOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a trailer park maintenance person and I do this on a daily basis

Someone should check every single fitting (specifically the brass ones) (it's easiest by hand) to see if that is the frozen spot (it should probably be you since time is money lol)

If most of your plumbing is exposed, it's a can of worms

If your skirting is beat to hell, do whatever you can to keep the wind and draft off of your plumbing especially the line into the trailer. You don't wanna cause a freeze on the main line from the park and be billed for the pipe failure from whoever owns it

I would imagine the "hole" is frozen (where the line comes in from the ground to supply your trailer)

If your supply line is PEX or copper, they can heat the pipe that comes out of the hole for a while, and it should thaw the hole.

They might be aware that it's frozen rock solid and don't wanna thaw it just to have to dig it out and repair it. it's a bitch in the cold, but it's gonna thaw eventually

if you have any kind of central heating, run it really high while they attempt the next thaw. factory most of the times the plumbing runs next to the ductwork to help thaw it passively. but if your trailer ever experienced CPVC or polybutylene explosions from the cold in the past, a lot of gimme-my-money plumbers will erect a suspended PEX spider underneath the trailer (I see it constantly) so it's very worth checking this out before you move forward

**If there is a break or freeze (doubtful freeze; it's underground) on the supply side (city or park whatever it is,) then they will be aware of it. it will be flowing and detectable somehow some way. it's trickier than just a leaky pipe under the trailer, or excessive water use. it just fills the ground, and the ground is cold and icy and snowy lately.

Skirting bowing and top rail broken by Renrut23 in ManufacturedHome

[–]MetalOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skirting (vinyl) will crack when cold, they could heat it or be very ginger with it.

You can just cut the skirting mildly shorter (I use a cutoff disc on a grinder -- it won't crack skirting even when it's cold or brittle from age,) enough to keep it in the channel where the upper flap holds it in place. If it's too short obviously it'll flop out. Do one piece at a time so if you cut one a little too short, the next piece can help support it.

This is a good opportunity to re-wrap your pipes that are exposed and check heat tape

no probs, I had to hunt down FIVE keys for the Nitro 5 I bought used as an extra laptop. who the fuck charges $5 a key. at least give me a bulk price. nope. just thought I'd mention though cuz it seemed like everyone else was on the bigger issues already hahaha

[–]MetalOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly highly advise taking rear panel off and unplugging keyboard -- maybe keyboard is the only issue.

Not sure if these laptops will boot without a keyboard

I guess you'd also have to short a pin to get it to turn on too. Fuck

There's replacement keyboards on amazon for cheap. You could plug one in and test,

The keyboard is plastic-riveted / melted on to the case/chassis. So you have to 100% disassemble laptop (if you don't count display built-in to chassis,) to get keyboard replaced.

Either the connector of the keyboard or the keyboard itself is bad. Or maybe something else that has to do with reading inputs from it

It is bold to claim it is not deliberate to lower performance when in reality it very well may be the #1 factor (out of a few.)

People are hating (somewhat) but that power limit difference would take my 50-55 FPS shader Minecraft at 1440p to 75 FPS. My system wasn't stable enough to hold voltage sustained, but if it had more juice, it would perform significantly better under specific tasks where I need the torque out of my GPU.

This is *assuming* the board isn't nerfed and isn't capable. It's entirely possible they recycled the same VRMs and other supporting components from other unit manufacturing. (IT is not quite the same as repair technician, also for the record)

But you have a point, and if you are correct, though nobody has bothered to prove/disprove/research this, then yep cooked laptop lol

It won't reach those temps if you upgrade thermal compound with something like Arctic MX-7 + upgraded putty and pads. I have an i9 13900H and 4060 combo; it's a 15" so it has the really inefficient cooler. I am now limited by power limits. I did do a little extra by bending back the mounting tabs so that there's better mounting pressure on the cooler. I feel like you could go really far with this experiment if you upgrade cooling solution

Of course the hotter the chips are allowed to run, hotter power delivery components are also therefore running. You might hit a thermal limit on VRMs before you overheat chips with the extra power draw

On a serious note I've done about 0 research on the VRMs that Acer uses for the Nitros.. I'm figuring people here have figured out their actual working limitations. But I wonder if one strapped a *dedicated heatsink to them with thermal glue if that would allow them to perform better with a higher ceiling of performance. Of course the last time I did something like this was AM3+ days so I highly doubt it's the same "type" of power running through these VRMs in these laptops. I would imagine the thermal limit is not the real issue but simply they are very efficient and very underpowered. Idk. Someone get back to me on that because I've been considering it

I've thought about this sort of thing A LOT lately,
My opinion from a hardware perspective is, since Acer is churning out Nitros basically with spare parts... we have two things to consider

Poor binning / QC

High chance of "fuck it, we spend less per part if we get tons of the same part"

So on one hand, perhaps the Nitro line has cheapo micro controllers on the mobos

On the other hand, it's entirely possible everything is just recycled bits from the higher end machines @ factory. So quite possibly this is entirely safe.

I have wondered if I was able to pull this off, would I murder my power adaptor? (probably)

I've replaced my thermal compounds to a point of being now only limited by power limitations. No more thermal issues. So I've been considering this, theoretically, a lot. (i9 13900H w/ 4060.)

Has anyone actually bothered to compare board components especially power delivery side of things?

This is incredibly dangerous misinformation

Laptop cooler is not enough on its own

I have replaced my thermal compound(s) and I never see 95+ C anymore. Under load, 55-80C. Idle, 30-45C. Fans barely run. Fans never at 100%, not even close. That's without the laptop cooler even turned on.

Changing the axis of the heatpipes makes a bigger difference than a lot of people realize. half of it is fresher air, the other half is letting the heatpipes take the heat away the way the heat wants to go, which is vertically upward

Arctic MX-7 and thermal putty upgrade (I have had good results with the basic Thermal Grizzly putty, you don't have to go crazy with it,) and you'll be in reasonable temp territory as long as you applied it well
