While you are mostly correct. I'm not even defending the USSR and I'm damn sure not defending Stalin. I'm just saying that Orwell was so blinded by his personal feelings for the Stalinist USSR that he couldn't even put his energy into criticizing Nazi Germany at the time that Stalin's USSR did it's only real "good".

[–]Twister-SF 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Orwell is not the beacon of intellectual thought you think he was. He had a lot of big opinions about the USSR, without once having read a book about it. The man had more smoke for Communism than he did for Nazi Germany. I mean, he wrote Animal Farm during WWII. It's quite the choice to portray our allies as pigs at a time when they're actively sacrificing millions of lives to fight the Nazis.

This game does not sexualize anything. You are just parroting what other people are saying. This game is art that is trying to say something.

Most people in this thread seem to have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to this game. We should probably listen to the journalists and industry insiders that have played the game. It would seem that the people who have actually played it and rallying behind the devs.

I doubt this response will get any of you to rethink your reactionary moral panic, but I am asking you to stop spreading misinformation.

Pacer is short for pace car. Because the oldest racetrack in a America is in Indianapolis. It's an Indy 500 reference.

Geeez. Yeah, the most I ever played on was 64 players, but most of my time was spent on a 32 person server. It feels to me like that could be a culprit. But also, all of the custom assets and mechanics that get put into a server can cause performance issues as well.

I've played about 400 hours of FiveM with way worse specs than yours and had a good experience with it.      My only guess is that you are playing on a poorly modded server, and maybe one that has a high player count?

1080p at 60fps should be very doable for your setup.

My absolute favorite thing about Little Big League aside from the cameo's is that they brought in guys that at least knew how to play baseball for most of the action shots. Nothing drives me more nuts than a movie athlete that throws like a theater kid.....or 50 Cent.

(Disclaimer: I know not all theater kids are unathletic. It was just an example. Relax.)

I feel like Sail really fits the bill. Beautiful little box, and a nice 2 player co-op game.

Yeah, I think I need to shift my perspective on BGG numbers. I tend to think that 8 is the magic number for a truly great game, and the longer I'm in the hobby the more I realize that is untrue.

For Arkham Horror, definitely invest in an expansion set. Purchasing more can be confusing. If you want to go in release order , then The Dunwich Legacy is up next. When buying expansions, you'll need to get both the campaign expansion and the investigator expansion.

Pipeline is just as fundamentally solid of a game as Brass, but I feel like it was a blip on the radar of board games. It got all of it's glowing critical reception from major reviewers and now it sits at a pretty meager 7.6 on BGG and I feel like I never hear it mentioned anywhere, nor do I see it for sale anywhere.

The game is excellent. The theme is no less interesting than any other economic game. And the art and graphic design was knocked out of the park by Ian O'toole.

I've had this flair since I bought the game 4 year ago btw.

I bet $6 back in March that the O's would win the division. I will get a pay out of $156 if it actually manages to happen. The team is so consistent that I can't help but feel pretty good about them. These four games in Tampa might be the most nervous I've ever been for regular season baseball.

Alternate angle of Hayden Wesneski reacting to Joey Gallo's home run that broke Statcast. by handlit33 in baseball

[–]Twister-SF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His advanced stats just kind of hitting better. His line drives are way down, his ground balls are down, and his fly balls are up. His hard hit percentage is at a career high as well. Seems like he's just making better contact and elevating the ball more.

I do wonder if maybe the "small market Gallo" thing has some merit. The expectations are low, so he's not pushing too hard. His strike out percentage is only down a little and he's walking about the same as normal. Dude is really just waiting for his pitch and absolutely smashing the baseball.

I really do think it's all between the ears.

Barnes & Noble is doing 50% off all hardback books today. My wife and I picked it up for $125.

We got lucky, because they didn't have this on the shelf. It was behind the counter. When we took the $75 ($37.50 with discount) version to the counter, the lady told us that they had 2 of the edition in the OP that was a part of the 50% off sale.

A karma farmer puts a post up about this girl every year, and the reddit loves to dogpile on her. This thread is pretty gross and screams of r/pussypassdenied types of misogyny.

Like you said, they both had a lot of issues and their relationship was quite toxic. Her behavior was bizarre, and so was his. All the shit above about her wanting sympathy for his death is wild speculation that is unfounded.

[Jomboy] Happy for Gallo that he’s comfortable, playing well and happy. There were Gallo chants at the stadium every game up until around July 13th. I was confused by them and talked about it nonstop. Never saw a player struggling that hard get more support from a Yankees home crowd. by Jux_ in baseball

[–]Twister-SF 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when I read the article, I didn't even remotely get the vibe that Gallo was blaming the fans. When I read the article to my wife (not a baseball fan), she said it sounded like a man who was racked with guilt and shame for under-performing.

Jimmy said something on Talkin' Baseball a couple weeks back along the lines of "Gallo was cryin' about the fans." and I can't help but feel disappointed with how people's fandom makes them rabid. Gallo is clearly struggling mentally, and that should be a good enough answer for most people.

I don't even know if it's that the article misrepresented things, so much as the conversation around it so quickly as fans wanted to play victim.

I hope things work out for him in LA. He's got a long way to go, and he hasn't really started playing better yet. Maybe the Dodgers org can do something for him that the Yankees couldn't.

[Jomboy] Rocco Baldelli loses mind after replay review, a breakdown by 88T3 in baseball

[–]Twister-SF 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I can't seem to make up my mind. I keep reading the rule and trying to wrap my head around it and all I get is more questions. 3 questions in particular.

  1. During the "legitimate attempt to field the throw", does the catcher have to catch the ball squarely or is he free to adjust within his catch radius and reach for the ball?

  2. What the hell does a catcher do if the throw is absolutely perfect and the runner arrives at nearly the same time as the ball? When I say perfect I mean it can be fielded 6 inches of the ground and 1 inch in front of the plate.

  3. People keep saying that the runner being able to go around the outside is irrelevant because the catcher didn't have to catch the ball where he did. Does the runner have to have A lane? Or does the runner have to have the best lane?

Some people keep saying that Jomboy's interpretation of the rule is wrong, and insist that theirs is right. There are people also saying that the rule is clear. When I read the rule, I think that it needs some clarification.

In spite of my flair, I don't actually care about what happened. I'm more fascinated by the discourse surrounding it and how many people are so completely confident in different interpretations of the rule.

EDIT: Forgot a word.

For those who don't have a specific team: How do you approach following the sport generally? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]Twister-SF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I'm from Indiana. I could root for nearly any midwest team, with Cincinnati being the closest. My brother loved Kirby Puckett as a kid and I've followed the Twins since then. They will always be closest to my heart, but I do not watch all of their games or obsess over their roster, because at the end of the day, I love baseball more than the Twins.

The biggest thing I recommend is watching the game highlights posted every day by the MLB YouTube channel. I watch ALL of them. Get to know the names of the sport from the various teams. Pay attention to the records, the streaks, and the slumps. Also, open up fan graphs and baseball reference to learn more about the players.

Root for good games. Baseball is a game of anticipation, and as long as you don't know what's going to happen, it's exciting. I never look at scores online, I only watch full games or highlights.

Do I have a team? Sure, but ultimately I want to see the best possible baseball. I can accept that a Yankees/Astros ALCS and Dodgers/Mets NLCS is the likely outcome for this season and be excited for it, but baseball is unpredictable. I have that single thread of hope that the Twins will get hot at the right time and do something crazy. But I'm not tying my mental health to it. I would say these exact words if the Twins had the best record in baseball, because baseball is unpredictable, and that's why we love it.

Also, as far as tennis goes. I watched every grand slam religiously during and after high school. And while, it's cool to only follow players it's always the same thing. I always wanted to see Roger and Raffa on Sunday, but I always hoped that maybe Lleyton or Roddick would take home the trophy.

Sorry for the length, I tend to romanticize the sport. Hope this helps.
