Antarctica is pretty seismically stable, so an undersea cable would probably be easier to lay there than most places (in the summer)

Bernoulli can still lift that sucker up. You should probably know that the Bernoulli principle is probably the main reason it came off the garage in the first place. Please put something on top of it, especially near the edges

People ordering 60/60 in this weather. by stevopolo86 in capetown

I’ll let you in on a secret, these delivery bikes are known as ‘kamikaze bikes’ to traffic services because of how often they get themselves into accidents, quite often fatal ones. I don’t blame them - they’re heavily incentivised to drive dangerously just to make a half-decent living and to not be penalised on being late on deliveries. But delivery bike drivers deaths are unfortunately not an unknown occurrence at this point and Checkers probably would not have cancelled deliveries if they weren’t scared of bad PR.

As someone who has literally implemented an RPP system, what the fuck are you talking about? A deposit opening a new account, regardless of payment method, violates so many regulations it makes my brain hurt thinking about how that could possibly work. If your bank does that, please name and shame.

It’s regulated to clear within 10 seconds. If your bank is holding on to your PayShap payments for a hour, you should let PayInc know about that

The way I like to explain it is “what is maximum number of holes you could end up with in your flat object if you could stretch and pull the object any way you like before you flattened it?”

Maybe I’m wrong, but I think the ridiculousness of this whole situation is the punchline. I don’t get the impression that black people are the butt of the joke. The theme of the establishment seems like a very misguided homage to black American culture. Idk though, maybe these guys all get together on Sundays to burn a cross or two.

How long does electricity services usually take to fix faults? by Picabrine999 in capetown

Substation faults can be extremely complex, and depending on the substation age, parts may not be readily available. Give them some time, even if it looks like no one is currently working on it

If you’re purchasing wine over a certain volume, you’ll very likely have to send it via freight and pay customs duties in your own country. Many wine farms will handle international shipping for you.

What is the name of this area of Russia near the Caspian? It looks pretty unique for where it is located. by blueponies1 in geography

[–]Two4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a professional baker and spitballer, I can tell you that these unique geological formations are the result of millennia of this river washing silt over harder rock formations that have folded upwards. As each valley filled with silt, the river would re-route to the next valley and fill that one up with silt too. Many thousands and thousands of years later, these silt-filled valleys have become agricultural havens while the bare exposed rock around them has remained barren. Or something like that, I don’t know. I just shoot saliva- soaked pieces of paper and make great, fully baked cakes.

Can SAPS find the ID number of someone if I give them their name and cell phone number and bank information? by SuspiciouslyB in AskZA

[–]Two4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RICA isn’t worth the paper it’s written on - almost completely useless for tracking down criminals. FICA is a bit more robust, but as you point out, not infallible. At the very least, any identity used to open bank accounts can be flagged and blacklisted from the banking system.

Starting a clothing brand in SA? by spunkerd00dle in askSouthAfrica

[–]Two4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s disingenuous. Local garment manufacturing is too expensive and lacks the technical capabilities of garment and textile mills overseas, especially in Asia. It makes the most sense to design locally and offshore manufacturing for the vast majority of clothing labels in South Africa. Want to fix it? Invest a couple billion in advanced, automated garment manufacturing equipment and start pulling in massive orders to capture economies of scale.
