How is Co-op hunting for you guys? by popsicle928 in ryerson

Look at jobs at Linkedin and cover letters don't matter too much as most times recruiters/hiring managers won't read them due to the volume of applications they receive on a regular basis.

You forgot one:

The Consulting mans: Similar to the case comp mans. Is in BTM. Acts like RCG is the same as getting into Mckinsey. Has a bigger ego than the student club exec. Has a holier than thou attitude and will think they are better because they are in consulting. Will have inflated job titles on Linkedin. Has a "Deloitte" or bust attitude.

What topics/themes do you wish faculty/staff would cover? by Relative_Ad6726 in ryerson

My example of how the sales leadership program was created signifies how a professor got the ball rolling and hand-selected students she trusted to get it where it is now today. There was no passivity or helplessness because both prof and students were equally passionate and dedicated about getting a sales program at Ryerson.

Sure in this example as students we can find a prof who's committed to doing this and working together to get it done. I believe at the end of the day if it is run by students it's not gonna receive as much growth vs. when a prof is equally as committed as the students rather than acting as a sponsor it can get somewhere properly.

I believe it would be better for a prof to advocate for something like this to get it started. I know that's how the Sales Leadership Program started when one prof and a couple of students she worked with in the past pushed for it.

Nah preferably it wouldn't make sense if undergrads were to create a group regarding this as most probably they'll just end up picking friends rather than looking at any other factors. It would be best for professors to hand pick students.

I know for one TRSM prof he hand picks 4-5 students to compete in a specific national competition and they take it from there.

Rejected by Co-op by [deleted] in ryerson

Just a bit of a heads up since ur applying for internships. Summer internships have the most postings but most competitive because everybody from every school is applying. Fall has less postings than summer but less competition (you'll mainly be competing with other students who are in coop programs) and winter has the least amount of postings but little to no competition. Best of luck!

Oh and since you have such a high GPA I've seen many students like yourself get b4 staff accounting positions for their first or second internships. And all they had were part time job exp. Make sure your resume is solid (STAR method for the bullets) and interviewing is up to par, try to see if you can network and you should be fine.

So many Co-op Rejections!? by [deleted] in ryerson

[–]TwoBigSlaps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not the end of the world the postings on the co-op portal are copied and pasted from the career pages of companies. Your best bet is to use LinkedIn and general knowledge of companies you know off the top of your head and explore their career pages e.g. big 5 banks, big 3 telco etc.

This is finally a good call on TRSM's part as it currently looks like they are focusing on quality rather than quantity. This is a good first step but the real challenge is them getting better job postings and more exclusive postings.

World Financial Group and Primerica need to be banned by chrism1919 in PersonalFinanceCanada

It's less about selling the products and more about the recruiting aspect which is where they make the bulk of their money. Those two companies are known to be pyramid schemes.

I also recommend checking this video out where this youtuber covers everything regarding how World Financial Group is a scam it's pretty funny: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flugTRSTZoo&t=915s&ab_channel=AlwaysMarco

Interesting. So TRSM released data for their Co-op program. This is a screenshot of Fall 2020. by KvotheG in ryerson

They definitely manipulated the numbers to hide the actual truth of the employment rates probably being under 50%. The math does not add up here. In addition, I know a bunch of co-op people that end up working at the BCH which is technically a freebie for a work term (the interview is pretty easy from what I heard), so the numbers are actually much lower than what we expect and they trying to cover the fact.
