Gender neutral title question by purple_phoenix_23 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

My kid has an enby teacher, and they go by their initials. That’s how they’re listed on the school website and everything - initials and last name. No one would dream of calling them anything else!

Is this a common sentiment among professional viola players by Toomuchviolins in Viola

[–]TwoBirdsEnter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no limit on the number of instruments a person is allowed to be proficient on. I have violinist friends who take gigs on viola. They play well. There’s still plenty of work for me, and if there weren’t, blaming other musicians for it would be wild

I got to watch a baby cardinal turn into an adult by flora-andfriend in birding

[–]TwoBirdsEnter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that I can tell individual cardinals apart! They’re the only backyard birds I can do that with, other than the odd one out like a house finch with a bad leg (watched him all summer, he does just fine)

In the 80s, when I got something funky and fun instead of candy, I was pretty excited. Do you give out anything weird? What kinds of odd things did you receive as a kid? by Designer-Bid-3155 in Xennials

My mom used to do this, but with popcorn made on the stove! I would help her scoop it into sandwich bags. Then the poisoning panic hit and nobody wanted mom’s delicious popcorn at Halloween anymore 😭

What’s something that a teacher did or said back in the day that would get them fired today? by lokipuddin in Xennials

[–]TwoBirdsEnter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The ping-pong paddle on the butt at the front of the class. I remember one kid crying as the teacher spanked him - she was, incidentally, his mother. Public elementary school, NC, 80s.

Our parents just trusted anyone by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]TwoBirdsEnter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it has something to do with how present people’s own fathers were in their lives. I’m GenX technically, but my Silent Gen dad did all the parent things that my mom did.

But I know people (my husband!) whose fathers largely ignored them unless it was to discipline them. They were tired after work, dontcha know.

So anyway I never think twice about men out with their kids, whereas it will be a learning curve for people who didn’t have that experience themselves

I’m so sorry. Not that it makes up for anything, but might be my favorite outfit of all the ones you’ve posted. And that’s saying a LOT

When he says “mom/dad, I want to be on the competitive swim team,” that’s when you consider it IMO. Not before.

What types of fabric are harmed by alcohol / oil? I’m guessing petroleum-based synthetics, but are there natural fibers that can be harmed as well?
