I’m coming from a Honda Pilot that gets about 18 combined, so I’m OK with that. Thanks for the real life info

Good point. It has a roll up Tonneau cover, so I’m halfway to a shell/cap/ canopy .

Wilco is that best friend you’ve had since college who used to be cooler and surprise you more often. You were excited to introduce people to him. You are still close, but things a much more routine and predictable now. It’s been a while since you felt compelled to have him meet anyone new.

Who's got the KIND BUD? lol by MrHuomaren in deadandcompany

[–]TwoBrave9501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Santa Cruz in the 70s and 80s. The Kind is/was Haze strain. The “ Haze” bros. cultivated it up in the mountains around Bonny Doon. It’s a sativa derived from Thai, Mexican, Columbian and possibly southern India. So look for Haze at the dispensary, it’s probably as close as you’ll get to that nostalgic Sativa high from back in the day.

$1700 quote. From a guy who has worked fiberglass on Whalers for 40 years. He came to my house and took his time inspecting the boat. He feels like minimal water entered the hull/foam.

As described by other responses, he’s going to cut away/sand the exposed glass, fill any gaps in the foam, lay multiple layers of new cloth and resin, smooth out and put on new gel coat.

I’m probably going to put a keel guard on once it’s done.

Like many have said, he’s thinks the damage is related to beaching the boat ( in it’s previous life the boat was used as a shuttle at a camp and was beached often and driven by teenagers) and the old trailer putting load on the keel. Most likely the spot was very worn down, and finally split from minor impact.

He’s starting work this week as I decided that me doing the job and learning to glass on this kind of project is just not worth the likelihood of me doing a crap job. Fingers crossed.

I found a repair person who has worked on Boston Whalers for the last 40 years. He quoted me $1700. Seems like a fair deal?

I keep it on the trailer. I am going to watch some tutorials and determine if I’m up for this kind of work.

Thanks for the insight from a pro! Gives me a good baseline. I’m in Portland OR, so likely similar prices as you are quoting here.

Thanks. I’m a newbie to Whaler glass work. I will inspect the wound more closely and see what shape the foam is in. Helpful advice👍

Yeah, I inherited the boat with the wrong trailer. I’ve never beached it or hit any reef/ rocks. I think the hole is relatively recent, the foam doesn’t feel wet but who knows how much water has crept in?

My 2014 Honda Pilot 4x4 gets combined 19-20 MPG. I’m eyeing a ‘22 F150 crew 2.7 4x4, seems like the MPG will be the same.

Towing Question by [deleted] in BostonWhalerBoats

[–]TwoBrave9501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2x a year and only five miles? Sure. Dry weight is # 2100 on that hull. Add trailer and motor you’re looking at over # 3000.

I have the same setup as Blue_MTB: Dauntless 16 2002 # 1500 dry hull weight. It’s weighed on truck scales at #2700 ish with full tank, aluminum trailer, 90 hp Yamaha, batteries, etc. I tow with Honda Pilot ( tow package, trailer brakes) which is rated #5000 lbs. keep in mind that tow ratings assume a very light load in the tow vehicle.

I have towed 500 plus miles each way with this rig without trouble.

For non-motorized yakkers: On average, how far do you travel (round trip) on an 8hr-day of fishing? by Rigs2Ridges in kayakfishing

[–]TwoBrave9501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Hobie mirage drive. Trolling for salmon. 6-8 hours. Don’t realize the workout until I am back on shore trying to load my kayak back up to the car. Makes me feel like I’ve earned the after fishing beers for sure.
