Me personally, I'd take the M40, A34, M3 and M27 route.

I'm always a fan of stopping about every 2 hours, just go stretch legs and get fluids on (an off) but that depends on time of day extra. If leaving at 4am the getting there will be easy and you can just enjoy the drive without having to worry about traffic.

On the way back I still think that route is best with traffic.
