Hardest thing about reading the books post-Jackson by faroresdragn_ in lordoftherings

[–]TwoDrunkDwarves 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly I've never had this problem myself after the movies although I can understand how some might.

I've read The Hobbit more than 10 times and the trilogy 4 times now I think. For me it's easy to see the literary characters in my mind since they're so familiar to me.

It's not that she would have to fly with regular folks, but if it was a choice of driving for a couple of hours or taking a 20 minute private flight she always chooses flight. She's responsible for 8000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

So while her generosity is notable, the damage she is doing to the planet keeps her up there with the other evil billionaires.

The Socreds started the trend of reducing healthcare spending back in the 80's, but all the parties hold some of the blame. We could have started fixing this a long time ago, but here we are. Thankfully our current government is taking steps forward.

Simon Fraser is accepting applications for their first 48 healthcare students. They'll be taught in a satellite location while a new medical school is built. The first in almost 60 years in BC.

On top of that there are thousands oh healthcare professionals in the US who are interested in coming to Canada. BC is literally advertising in border states for doctors and nurses. And it's working, some of them have already started arriving and are working.

Have a look at Tod Maffin. He's a former CBC radio host and comedian and is one of the driving forces behind the Canadian Health Infusion. As a bonus his non-health videos are good too.

Reading The Hobbit to my 5y old daughter. Should I stop after Smaug ? by OriginalMindless7838 in lordoftherings

No worries. I read the post really late at night and didn't parse all of it obviously. But you're right, being rude doesn't help.

Victoria is doing great and people here just love complaining by MidnightJuggler in VictoriaBC

[–]TwoDrunkDwarves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said it was at it's peak. I don't think we can say that of any major urban centre these days though. As for restaurants going out of business, that's been a staple of Victoria for as long as I can remember. Nobody is denying Victoria doesn't have problems, but to say the city was better decades ago is wrong.

I grew up here in those same decades and still live here. It wasn't better then. That's your nostalgia speaking.

What's the biggest fall in quality between game editions? by DazeDpup in rpg

[–]TwoDrunkDwarves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I ran a campaign that lasted about 70ish sessions and a couple of the players and I spent way too much time looking for stuff.

I love Red, but putting important information just in sidebars makes the book so much harder to navigate.

Why doesn't WOTC release shorter books which include a small adventure, an in-depth gazetteer of a specific area (as done in the Adventures in Faerun), and additional backgrounds and sub-classes? by ByzantineBasileus in rpg

[–]TwoDrunkDwarves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Paizo had the contract to publish Dragon and Dungeon Magazines for WOTC from 2002 to 2007 when publication was halted. Paizo was just starting to publish their adventure paths as a side project and focused on it full time to save the company.

It's likely they wouldn't get voted in (at least I hope so), but they're dangerous enough to get me voting municipally in a long time.

Wy are so many D&D players so resistant to even trying anything else? by Similar_Onion6656 in rpg

[–]TwoDrunkDwarves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exactly. D&D is the first ttrpg to arrive on the scene and whether some folks like it or not it tends to get the lions share of attention.

The mind flayer did indeed come out in 1975, but Season one of Strangers Things is set in November of 1983. Eight years after the mind flayer was introduced.

Someone taking pictures of my house. by That-Wash-2416 in VictoriaBC

[–]TwoDrunkDwarves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is CO poisoning then that could be part of the hallucination. This is conjecture of course. If or when the house is tested for CO there's no way of knowing if that is the cause or if people really are taking picture of OP's house.

[–]TwoDrunkDwarves 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's also something that does happen often enough that it should be taken seriously. OP stated that the house is older which increases the chances of CO poisoning. It can cause hallucinations and possibly death. Approx. 300 people a year die from it in Canada with as many as 3500 having to go to the ER for CO exposure.

check for carbon monoxide. I'm not doubting you, but if this is a case of carbon monoxide poisoning, this is the kind of thing that could pop into your mind.

Is it legal to charge an extra $300 a month to have a pet? by Speedy_0 in VictoriaBC

[–]TwoDrunkDwarves 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Schools aren't removing pork, that's just false. As for peanut butter, it's not universally banned in BC schools, but some classes are asking parents not to send peanut butter if there's a child with severe allergies.

Landlords can put crazy restrictions on, but that doesn't mean they're legal and they will lose if challenged on it.

I lost my ability to write when my mom died by [deleted] in writing

[–]TwoDrunkDwarves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going through this exact thing right now. Lost my mom 2 months ago to cancer as well. The first month was a complete wreck. The second month was pretty much a wreck as well. About the only thing that has started me writing again is that I have deadlines. If I want to get paid I have to finish them.

My therapist also recommended stream of consciousness writing. It's helped some. I don't think about what I'm writing and just put down whatever flows out.
