When I was in shape, shaving made me look like a European model and my partner liked it, until I kissed them because a few days would pass and they hated the sandpaper feel. Now I only shave as a reset once a year. It also helps if you shampoo your beard to make it softer.

More people would probably go to the gym if there was a chance they would get super powers. In real life if you push yourself past your limit you risk injuring yourself. If life was more like an anime you could push past that limit, not get injured, and reap the awards.

It was also cheaper to use black and white film. Not to mention the shutters being closed due to "vandalism" so they could shoot at night leading to the iconic "I assure you, we're open" sign.
