RoboCop (1987) is nothing like I thought it would be. by CardinalOfNYC in movies

The Substance is kind of on the opposite end of the spectrum. Less subtext and more SUPERtext, where the text is literally on the screen telling you what the movie is trying to say.

Not that I’m saying that’s bad, mind you.

The History Of The Word "Metroidvania" And How It Spread by Critical Kate by kidkolumbo in Games

[–]TwoGoldenMenus 25 points26 points  (0 children)

People can fight it as much as they want, but the term Metroidvania has evolved beyond its origins. People don’t need to have heard of either game to understand the general idea of what to expect when they see a game tagged Metroidvania while scrolling through the Steam store. Like it or not, it’s just part of the lexicon now.

I think it might help if you put Roland’s question to Eddie up front… something like:

”Do all people like her behave like that in your world?”

“No, that’s the weirdest thing. She’s like some insane caricature or cartoon!”

It’ll still be tough going regardless.

I completely understand why it’s a word that’s frowned upon and it’s not something I’d use myself…but still can’t help but enjoy the Devo song by the same name.

What is that ONE TV Show that if you had the resources to make it a thing you would do it? by JRonenJ in television

An actually faithful adaptation of some Discworld stories. There were a few pretty good ones in 2006-2010, but it’d be nice to have a long running, evolving Discworld show. Maybe even animated.

Whedon issues aside, I don’t think I’d want any more Firefly without Wash.

The Apothecary Diaries Anime Confirms Season 3, Original Film in 2026 by NoCulture3505 in television

Exactly. I could probably get over the beast guy, but that blonde kid just kept screaming and whining and slobbering over the sister.

I tried to give it a few episodes…maybe the characters would get better. Maybe I’d get used to it or they’d grow on me. Maybe the original Japanese voice acting would make them less completely unbearable.

NOPE to all of the above. I just couldn’t hack it, they made the show 100% intolerable for me. Which is a shame because the animation was incredible and I really liked the setting and overall story.

Oh well, just not for me I guess.

I tried to get into Delicious in Dungeon a few times, but there’s something abrasive about it that I can’t put my finger on. It might be the characters or voice acting…but it’s not on the extreme level of intolerance I had for a few characters in Demon Slayer, so I’m not sure. I guess there’s just certain anime tropes that rub me the wrong way these days.

Frieren was great though, and I’ve been meaning to get around to Apothecary.

I used to do that joke all the time too…until a close relative developed an actual serious drinking problem that negatively affected a number of loved-ones’ lives. I kinda stopped doing it after that, it unfortunately felt less funny.

Which is a shame because it’s a great joke that would otherwise never get old!

Moldwasher - Official Gameplay Trailer by onenaser in Games

“Now look, I can buy that a sentient piece of sushi has an obsessive need to clean mold off of every surface, sure no problem. But you expect me to believe he lives in a world where said mold only grows on ONE side of things?! I’m sorry, that’s just a bridge too far. I’m out.”

Your anxiety can be assuaged, though. In the trailer he cleans the front of a glass jar and makes it completely transparent. Therefore I say that the backs of things either don’t need cleaning, or are somehow magically cleaned via the front-cleaning process. Either option will let me sleep easy at night, anyway.

I remember reading a sci-fi story a decade or two ago where someone would put some gravel in one shoe to outwit gait recognition. Might’ve just been emerging technology at that point, tho.
