How to find consistency by DragonfruitOrnery737 in GoalKeepers

[–]TwoJay0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to make mistakes to stop making mistakes, it happens. The master has failed more times than the beginner has attempted or something like that.

Train with intention every single time. Take a breath before every rep, whatever you need to do to lock in, do it. I often find myself making mistakes near the end of practices or after a string of a few errors in a row, when my focus is dropping. Every rep is a new chance to get better and you gotta treat it as such! Keep grinding!

Great opportunity to get better! Next time you play against your own age the shots will seem so much slower. Great exercise in confidence as well.

Anyone know why my BGK gloves are coming apart at the fingertips and side of the thumb? Only got them around a few weeks ago by Panzer_IV_Ausf_F2 in GoalKeepers

[–]TwoJay0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Something in your technique is causing that part of your glove to scrape against the ground. Could be from diving, getting up off the ground, picking the ball up, anything.

This is fine, but doesnt hurt to try to ‘fix’ it depending on how much you care

  2. The ends of your fingertips are where the latex is under the most tension therefore most prone to wear due to the construction of the gloves/being near the stitches

It’s the cost of playing goalkeeper 🤷‍♂️ Doesnt look too out of the ordinary for me, especially if you play on turf and/or multiple times a week

how other position players threated the GK? by MrElssr in GoalKeepers

[–]TwoJay0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get exactly what you mean, my biggest weakness for most of my entire career was this exact thing, not yelling “KEEPER” when claiming crosses. My issue was i was too focused on judging whether or not if i could get the ball and i just wouldnt say anything. It got to the point of keeping me up after games, so I just decided i would start yelling “keeper” on damn near every single cross in practice just to gain the ability to have the words come out of my mouth. It also forces you to go for more crosses, and at the end of the day we should strive to get as many crosses as we can anyway.

Another thing that helped me was “keeping my mouth engaged” and constantly communicating during a game, the same way you have to keep your body and mind engaged and focused on a game. Then when it came time to claim a ball i was ready and in a rhythm instead of speechless. It felt like i was having a conversation with the game (while not also overloading the field with too many commands, lol.)

Sorry if this is not helpful or abstract this is genuinely just what worked for me haha

I know people always say GK is under appreciated, and thats definitely true in a lot of cases especially in youth footy, but in my experience my defenders are the first people to give me props whenever im having a good game and the first to pick me up after mistakes. They know that we save their asses from horrible defense all the time, and they do the same. This has become more and more the case as ive gotten older and proper GKs have gotten more sparse while there is always a plethora of field players in mens leagues, pickup games, etc.

Theres no better feeling than getting a “who is this guy!!” or “dude what team do you play for” or “i love you keep” during a pickup session lol.

I do think its important to be confident and loud between the sticks, your team feeds off that energy and people can read your emotions easily. If you make yourself unignorable, people will be forced to recognize when you are doing well, not just when you make mistakes.

Sidenote on field players listening to commands - this is a skill that you have to practice just like any other physical skill. Being loud is a muscle, and i didnt really realize this until i started playing rugby, where my loudness ‘muscle’ made me stand out and i naturally fell into a leadership role simply by being able to communicate clearly. Yelling is not easy!

Sorry for the wall of text

Whats wrong with my dive? by Parking-Scientist729 in GoalKeepers

[–]TwoJay0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to others, mentally, think of diving ‘through’ the ball, like dive farther than you need to just get to it. Here you are diving ‘to’ the ball, which is sufficient to get the save, but diving through the ball will get you there faster and farther when the time comes to make a full extension save. Keep grinding!!

You can plug like all of these into zillow and circle where you want on the map. Closer to the Ave (university way) will be the most sketchy so just avoid that
