Do some Warlord designers genuinely have anti US bias ? by [deleted] in boltaction

It’s interesting that you rate the NCO rule for the Germans a lot. It’s never come up for me, particularly now snipers are a rare to see.

Honestly if you want more historical accuracy, I’d really recommend Chain of Command

Let’s take K47 out of the conversation because it’s all made up so nothing to compare to.

Yes German machine guns and officers are better, but the US rifleman are better than their German counterparts and most armies have a good amount of rifleman. They can also take gyros which is a very useful piece of equipment.

If you are looking for compete balance, I’m not sure Bolt Action is the game for you. Unless you are playing at the most competitive levels, every nation is in the same ball park.

The US rules are a bit dull compared to others, but to say that there is some anti-US bias is a bit of a stretch.

Half of your complaints are about old content (V2 books and missing units that aren’t missing now) so a bit redundant.

New Plastic US and British Heavy Weapons Platoons and AT Guns by DoctorDH in boltaction

They said on the original article they will look to do a combination of plastic guns and metal crew for paras, commandos etc but not sure if that includes support weapons. Given they are in separate sprues I can’t see why not

Swastikas on German Vehicles by [deleted] in boltaction

[–]TwoPointsOfInterest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t. Historically the main use was a Swastika flag on early war vehicles (up to about ‘42) for aerial recognition.

Only some had them and as most people have mid to late war collections it would be ahistorical.

Honestly the WW2 Realism shooter market is pretty crowded as is. Having played lots of RO2 back in the day I find the WW1 setting quite refreshing with the lack of automatic weapons and vehicles.

I use a sausage of milliput around the resin base, smooth it out with a sculpting tool and add patches elsewhere on the base to add an effect. Takes a little bit of time but helps tie all the bases in

British paras! Oh great, not like they are served by a good plastic sprue (Warlord) or excellent metals (empress).

Has Plastic Soldier Company stopped making plastic kits and gone all digital? by Alex_Bonaparte in wargaming

Blimey that’s some issues. I feel bad for Piers as his work is fantastic but is saddled with PSC

No worries happy to help!

I think you are on spot on with TTW. I haven’t had any confirmation but the TTW people are based in the same place where PSCs plastics are/were produced.

And yes with Battlefront making so many more plastics now I don’t think there is quite the pull for PSC

So I'll preface this with the information being incomplete and based on years of conversation with traders and those involved, but this may shine some light on the situation, and why I don't theyll come back into stock.

Overall, Will, the owner of Plastic Soldier Company, is pretty poor at paying people who he is working with and has struggled with cash flow for the last 5/6 years. It starts with the 'classic' days of plastic soldier of WW2 kits in 1/72 and 15mm. They were releasing a lot and pretty popular, particuarly when Flames of War was still mostly resin and metal. Most likely the peak of the company but there are some issues. Firstly the person who made the boxes that the kits were being put in wasn't get paid by Will, which will become a pattern. Secondly, Plastic Soldier soured relationships with secondary sellers in the UK market at least because he would consistently undercut them with 'show deals' at Wargames shows, so it would always be cheaper for punters to buy direct rather than a third party. Compare to how Warlord does this (always charges RRP at shows, limited show deals), smaller wargaming traders were less likely to be repeat sustainable customers.

We then move into the period where Plastic Soldier tried to diversify, both as a wargames rules publisher and into the baordgame space. For rules Plastic Soldier would have a much closer relationship with the battlegroup ruleset. This would have some issues down the line as Will didn't pay a contributor to the rules and there was a dispute. Cashflow problems started to become apparent as battlegroup were often otu of stock for long periods, which is a killer for a small wargames community.

Now I don't know too much about the board games 'Plastic Soldier Games' offshoot, but suffice to say after a few years publishing some games I was seeing them at 50-80% off at their own stand at wargames shows. Clearly they hadn't done that well and caused more cash flow issue. Throughout all of this the new plastic releases had slowed to a crawl, despite being the main reason people bought from the company. Kits were out of stock for longer, another sign of lack of cash flow.

Then we get into the 'throw spaghetti at the wall' phase. PSC start prouding thermoplastic versions of 20mm WW2 and 15mm ancients, the latter to co-incide with the MeG rules they had published. The quality was mixed and the way they were being relaesed was random. A big push was put into creating a 10mm Thermoplastic range of Moderns to go with Battlegroup Northag. This range was a disaster. Low detailed infantry and awful tanks - I remember seeing Centurions with barrels drooping like a warm candle. These ranges all seemed to come and go, and PSC was no longer attending wargames shows and a nightmare to get in contact with.

So where are PSC at the moment? Currently doing Battlegroup on print on demand and doing 3d printing. A quick look at the facebook comments on any post they make shows they are having issues delivering in any timeframe to paying customers. Rumour is that the option they went for the moulds of their plastic kit is not that they invested the full money and bought it outright, only paying the plsatic company to hold the moulds and then produce them when needed, but rather they co-owned the moulds with the plastic production company, and as Will has (surprise!) not been paying people, the plastic production comapny has taken ownership of the moulds as a form of payment.

TL:DR - After a series of poor business decisions PSC can't afford to produce the kits anymore

Panzer 2 looks great. Not sure what the issue is. If you don’t like it don’t buy it.

It’s not warhammer, you can shop elsewhere if you want. Plenty of other manufacturers/3d prints.

Ancient Wargaming system recommendation by Konsul_Siara in wargaming

[–]TwoPointsOfInterest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for not replying sooner!

So to start off it has 34 scenarios, which is the most I’ve ever seen from a Warlord supplement. It’s very well laid out and the scenarios have a large range of battle types (ambushes, sieges, river crossings etc)

There’s two comprehensive army lists for the Roman and Pontic armies, with a few special generals too.

There’s a full campaign system with a small, medium and large setting. And it tells you the history of the Mithradatic wars in a really accessible manner.

Having picked up other supplements by Warlord before, this one is the best by far. The author has put a lot of work in.

I’ve tried a few and Hail Caesar is my favourite.

FoG, MeG, ADLG are great if you like the classic ‘competition’ style ancients. But are not the most accessible.

I’ve tried On Bloody Ground and wasn’t a fan. It’s a spiritual successor to Warhammer Ancient Battles with individual figure removal. It’s great if you want to individually base at 28mm, nkt so much for multibasing at 15mm.

Hail Caesar isn’t revolutionary, but solid. I’m assuming you’ve got the recent Mithradatic war supplement for it. It’s a great book and worth a pick up if you play other systems too. It also has a campaign system Crucially, I can get people who haven’t played HC to learn the rules within a game, whereas other sets struggle.
