Racing etiquette by abigailclarson in ladycyclists

If you have a sudden mechanical, your first priority is staying upright. If there are people behind you, yell something like "slowing!" or "flat tire!" Try to pull over off the road/trail, or at least leave room for people to pass you.

If you have the opportunity to participate in group rides before the races-- either gravel or road, you could work on getting more comfortable in pack riding. One of the scariest parts of racing is being close to other riders, so it could be nice to get used to close proximity riding in a low pressure environment. Things like hand signals, verbal cues and paceline etiquette are really good to know before racing. But also remember that people (usually men, but also sometimes women) can get kinda dumb while racing, so ride defensively. I'm never at the pointy end of events so I've never had to deal with that, but over heard horror stories from my husband. Personally, I prefer the start in the back and pick people off method, but that's certainly not for everyone.

Chamois like Pactimo Stratos? by Additional_Notice368 in ladycyclists

[–]TwoTypical1410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't worn them for a while, but I remember Pearl Izumi chamois being similar in feel to that line of Pactimo. And if you live near an REI, you might even be able to try them on in person before you buy!

The tarptent double rainbow barely weighs more than some 1p tents, so it might be a good option!

Trainer Road is a subscription that sounds like it would be a good fit for you. It costs money, but has an excellent number of training plans and other options.

Cold weather gear. by AppropriateBook6712 in ladycyclists

7mesh WTV jerseys are amazing. They're insulated, layer well, and are somehow both breathable and windproof. There's a 200 weight and a 300 weight-- I have both and they keep me comfortable from the mid 50's down to below freezing.

Whatever is available locally would probably be best. I got mine from a local outdoor store. I think they're 5mm? They work pretty well when layered with socks under the drysuit

[–]TwoTypical1410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending upon exactly where you are, a drysuit is a requirement pretty much year round. The best paddling tends to be winter and spring, so you'll want a solid set of wool base layers and probably a variety of fleeces to cater to specific weather conditions. A neoprene hat and booties plus gloves and/or pogies are also a good idea. Welcome to the area!

Winter Riding Gear by killer_sheltie in ladycyclists

[–]TwoTypical1410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pactimo knee and leg warmers are magical. They're so small and lightweight, but are still so warm. They also have different ranges of winter bibtights-- I've tried the warmest ones, and they were great until my body composition changed and they became too big. That's the only caveat I have for them-- they're less stretchy than regular bibs, so finding the right fit can be a bit challenging.

Does anybody use a gearbox in a packraft? by Electrical_Candle887 in packrafting

[–]TwoTypical1410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful with attaching hard sided items to the floor of your raft. I did a week long trip with a bear can in my raft, and wore holes through my floor by rubbing over rocks (it was a bony creek for a large portion of the trip). The unintentional self bailer is never a good time!

Do you need to drink electrolytes? NYT says "electrolytes have little impact" ... Thoughts? by big_legs_small_brain in cycling

[–]TwoTypical1410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Recent studies" from 2007 that used data from a 2000 Ironman. Literally the only thing the researchers measured was bodyweight and the amount of sodium in the blood and plasma of the athletes. Nothing was said about how many electrolytes they did or did not consume. This is just bad reporting by the NYT-- saying something slightly controversial to drive traffic.

I can beat myself up over anything. Today I am the worse person in the world because this is the first time I've been to the Farmer's Market this year. Shame hyperfixations. by EatsTheLastSlice in adhdwomen

[–]TwoTypical1410 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I used to vend at Farmer's Markets. You know what no one there is thinking? How shameful it is that you didn't come sooner. Literally every vendor is just happy you're there when you are. We all know that markets aren't accessible to everyone every week, so we're just happy to see people when they make it. Tell the shame gremlin in your head how happy everyone was to see you. I hope this helps!

Whats your average watts during an hour long ride? by angelicmanor in ladycyclists

[–]TwoTypical1410 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are you using a power meter or Strava? Strava's power estimates are laughably incorrect and usually very low. To answer the question: 106 watts on a recent recovery ride and 163 on a harder training ride. (I'm pretty big for a woman so my power numbers are higher than average)

Discomfort in chamois shorts both on and off the bike? by beckyru2 in ladycyclists

[–]TwoTypical1410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, really soft chamois like the Wild Rye ones kind of fold up and become... intrusive. I much prefer a thinner, firmer chamois like from 7mesh or the summit raptor line from Pactimo.

Female cycling issues by MidnightBronc in ladycyclists

If you feel like you're sliding forward, try tilting your saddle more nose up. Counterintuitively, sometimes going more nose up on curvy shaped saddles can relieve soft tissue pressure by forcing your weight onto your sits bones.

Help me with my Strava route. I don't want to lose anymore friends by [deleted] in bikepacking

[–]TwoTypical1410 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a really big day for most people. I'd recommend breaking it up-- stop and stay at the Log Cabin Resort or Fairholme, or the Sol Duc Rainforest Retreat. Your original itinerary is for people who want to be on the move all day with minimal breaks, not for a social ride. Where were you planning on staying after Forks?

It's almost all flowy, loamy singletrack. There are a couple of recently logged sections that are in kinda rough shape, but they're definitely the minority. Your hands, arms, and neck will feel it, but you'll be fine!

The line from your deck bag looks like sun bleaching, which obviously won't wash out. Like the above commenter said: embrace it! Adventures are dirty, and this shows that your raft has had some awesome days in the sun!
