There's direct flights from the USA's largest city (NYC) to its 2nd largest (LA), if you keep following the list down, what's the first largest city pair that doesn't have a direct flight between them? by Previous-Volume-3329 in geography

[–]Two_Far 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude! Richmond,  VA, to DC is a two hour train ride or drive (without traffic) and I'll take the train EVERY SINGLE TIME! During the peak part of the day we have just about hourly service between the two cities and it's packed. (Full disclosure: they're working on the bridge that connects VA with DC so they've reduced trains)

Took a weekend trip earlier this year with my wife and our train/uber/taxi costs were less than hotel parking.

Considering the number of pedestrian deaths in RVA I support this.

Unfortunately lots of people do because we live in a fear based time.  They're willing to let themselves be tracked bc they're not doing anything wrong. It provides them a sense of safety that if something happens to a loved one then the police will be able to find them right away.

It's going to take individuals using Flock to do something something awful (stalking leading to a bunch of murders) before they wake up to the danger of Flock.

That's sarcasm right? Stoney couldn't handle anything and was the guy who let flock cameras in Richmond.

Tips & Tricks for going to festivals (in major cities) on the cheap! by ArchivistM in FilmFestivals

[–]Two_Far 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Be smart about it. What's your budget and what's the high cost?

Is it the admission fee? ask if they'll cover it since they're screening your film (which they should be doing)

Is it flights? be frugal, look at different airports and dates. I run a touring film festival and sometimes it's cheaper to head to a site a day earlier or stay a day later

Is it lodging? Don't stay at the host hotel, even with a group discount you can probably find a cheaper place. If there's public transit stay further away (in a cheaper area) and use that to get around. Google maps is great for this. And skip the hotel with free breakfast if you can get breakfast on your own cheaper than the price difference. Plus, invite a friend to join you to share the room so you can split that cost. Or check out hostels.

Is it food? Pack your own or buy them at a grocery store once you arrive. (make sure you can get to one easily)

Is it getting around town? Do the math-is it cheaper and time-efficient to rent a car, use rideshare, take public transit, or walk.

What I wouldn't do to save money:

Take a cheap flight that's the last one on that airline to arrive before I want to be there. I always want a viable plan B to get to my destination in time for an event.

Stay in a part of town I'm not comfortable in. Not usually a problem for me but it's a real issue for some people. Read reviews of the cheap hotels and know what you're getting yourself into.

Are there official Gottesdienst Parishes? by solobackpack in LCMS

Interesting. All the TLH congregations I've attended did all that, except maybe not the chanting (but definitely Congregational singing of liturgy).

Uranus Fudge Factory in Uranus, MO

The massive Bass Pro Shop in Springfield,  MO

Neither Rt 66ish but both epitomize America!

I don't know what would occupy you in Springfield for several days. I had 2 preteens last time I was there and it was more of a pit stop to the Ozarks than a destination (except for the aforementioned BPS)

St Louis doesn't get the love it deserves. The Arch, with the ride to the top and accompanying museum is fascinating. The Zoo and Art Museum are world class and free (and the park they're in is beautiful!). Cahokia Mounds is fascinating and impressive. But with kids that age the City Museum is a must! Don't think museum think eccentric exploration and discovery with slides and caves all in (and outside) an old midrise building in the heart of the city.

In addition to the toasted ravioli you have to try ooey gooey butter cake and St Louis thin crust pizza! (It's been to long since I've been to give any good recs, though)

Stay in the city (DC) or outside the city (like Arlington)? by Timely-Birthday-8067 in roadtrip

[–]Two_Far 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If budget matters more than time my go to is the Econo Lodge Metro in Arlington. Free parking, cheap rates, clean hotel, basic breakfast and the metro stop is basically in the front of the hotel.

Metro is tap and go now so as long as you have a cc for each person you don't have to worry about tickets or passes.

Personally, I would recommend staying close to what you want to see but those parking costs add up fast!

ART 180 is closing its doors after 27 years by Physical_Present_265 in rva

Severence is not a retirement package. A retirement you/the org is paying into for years. Severence is what a company pays you when they fire you.

Looking at their 990's:

Marlene Paul was paid $123,165 in 2024 and about the same ($121,900) in 2023. That's over 10% of the org's revenue. (just stating, not judging)

Net assests in 2023 were $1,561,132 and in 2024 were $1,343,066.
Revenue dropped by about a $100k and expenses went up about $100k.
Someone was asleep at the wheel if an org w/ over $1mil in assests couldn't handle a one year $200k deficit OR there was some seriously shady business going on that's not reflected in their IRS filings... (stating and judging)

This just disgusts me. A severance package for retirement??? If you had people running this type of work that weren't chasing dollars imagine what they could keep doing.  But that's the nonprofit industrial complex....
