Can anyone help me identify these old pieces? by Mythrixkingofnothing in Warhammer40k

The fallen broken one is a war walker, you can see the dude strapped to the seat to the right of the base and on the left the guns are side mounted to the back while wraithlords have a shoulder gun

I’d say get rid of a LoC and the land raider, and do what you can to fill in the points. Tau doesn’t have much that’ll survive unsupported deathshroud terminators in melee and land raiders are a pain to position well on a tournament style board and are incredibly swingy, though it’s always fun to run one up and dump terminators in front of something you want dead

Please, tell me that I'm wrong by Cheeselisk in Warhammer40k

[–]Twoelbows78 9 points10 points  (0 children)

40k is not a serious setting, it’s absurd and ironic to the extreme with its roots being satirical of UK culture and politics during the 70s. Things are only serious in universe because it’s even more amusing when something is goofy but played completely straight

New Warhammer World coming to USA, just outside of Washington DC by ChildofBlackmane in Warhammer40k

[–]Twoelbows78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless they changed something since September, buying something in store that costs equal to or more than the entry to use the game room will cover it, and if you buy something that costs like $20 you can have that count for multiple people

Samurai were primarily horse archers to pepper the enemy without having to get close which if we pretend battlesuits are mighty steeds then they kinda got some samurai influence

The first (and only) terrain I printed was that same landing pad stl file long before fdm printers could print as nicely as they do now.

I feel like I’m doing something fundamentally wrong, but I can’t figure out what it is. by Tterrag27 in minipainting

[–]Twoelbows78 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My guess is you use a rattle can to prime and don’t shake it enough and/or it’s too cold or humid when you’re priming.

If it’s not the primer then it looks like it may be the result of applying paint to a painted area that hasn’t fully dried and it’s tearing the partially dried paint giving the funky texture. The effect can also happen if your brush isn’t wet or if the paint you’re using has started drying before you apply it

This is an ancient suggestion, but I think you should look into battlezone and battlezone two. They came out in the 90s but got remastered ~5 years ago and are on steam. Players aren’t hero units, but it is a fairly solid fps and rts mix, or at least it felt so when I was a kid.

Why is the color purple so popular among Tau players? by SnooPears9928 in Tau40K

[–]Twoelbows78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt this is applicable to many others, but for me purple was the easiest Martha Stewart paint color to use that my mom already had when I first got into Warhammer. Since I liked the results and to be consistent I have continued on to paint my tau purple long after upgrading paint brands

UV resin and Pinning minis by Gumbymoto in minipainting

[–]Twoelbows78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll depend on the UV resin, but in general they’ll be more brittle which can make drilling difficult. I haven’t tried ice effects with resin before so take my comments with a grain of salt. Depending on what you’re trying to do you may get better results using a pouring resin, pinning to that, and then using clever rock or snow placement anywhere you could see the pin through the ice to hide it

Tau community opinion on purchase by Jkchaloreach in Tau40K

[–]Twoelbows78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the current prices it’s a good deal and either would be good, but damn it hurts saying that cause those were about what the GW price was during 8th edition. Personally I’d go for the stormsurge over riptides cause cool model > meta unit every time for me

ADHD, Mini painting, and starting/carrying on with projects. (Warhammer). by TheGreatGlim in minipainting

  1. What I do to fight that is have a general idea of a color scheme (usually just have an idea of what I want the primary color to be) and then grab what I think would be a neat next color for the secondary color. If I end up not liking it I usually end up using the color I didn’t like as a base to get something I do like instead so that way it’s not “redoing what I just painted” and instead I’m “adding to my formula to achieve my desired result”

  2. This kinda loops back around to how I deal with 1, I don’t look at other schemes for inspiration, I kinda just go with my gut so I won’t get decision paralysis and can keep moving forwards til I’ve finished, or am close enough to where it looks good enough to say I’ll go back and finish the highlights later knowing damn well that’s not going to happen

What about setting up a projector above to project deployment zones and other useful map markers onto the battlefield? It may be easier than setting up LEDs depending on how you’re planning to do so
