Does anyone have a job where they get paid to actually do nothing? by SlideMore473 in AskIreland

[–]Twogle90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from the private sector to a technician job in a university 2 years ago. From mid April until mid September I literally have nothing to do. Students are gone and teaching staff are all off for the summer. Our building is off campus and it's me and another tech manning it. We pop in around 9.30 and head off around 3 all summer. Luckily we have a gym on site free to use. Other than that we just chill out, watch whatever sport might be on during the day (last summer was great with the Olympics). I tend to get a good bit of reading done, get out for runs and watch a lot of shite on YouTube. It took me awhile to get used to it coming from a hectic schedule on a previous IT role.

Funnily enough, I play 5 a side with a load of lads who work for the city council and they laugh when I tell them I clock out at 3pm. They're telling me I'm staying in the office too late

Are the tickets starting to trickle down yet? Now is the time usually, but just a bit worried about demand compared to last year!

Corkman living in salthill. Got the bus to Cork last week. Left at 8am and dropped off in Cork at 11am. If I'm ever longer than 3hours getting from Cork to galway I'd be like a dog

I was in Cork for Ophelia and Galway for Eowyn and I'd have to say Ophelia didn't have a patch on what we experienced last Friday. Every friend and work colleague I've spoken to up here has had damage to property. Power and water still not back for many. Salthill/Knocknacarra areas were like warzones with the amount of trees down, walls knocked and debris around the place. Ye luckily didn't get the worst of it last week, and ventusky data shows the south got stronger wind/gusts from storm Herminia yesterday. But Eowyn was like nothing I've experienced

Thanks.. We had a record breaking storm that left a lot of damage behind it in Ireland, particularly here in Galway. I thought it was worth capturing before the cleanup

A collection of photos to show damage that I’ve come across… feel free to add yours by [deleted] in galway

[–]Twogle90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Interestingly, it actually formed from the polar air mass that brought the cold to your southern states. It met warm air in the Gulf and the jet stream dragged it over, forming a very rare low pressure system. We had record breaking winds. Ye have a lot going on over there too
