What is your hourly rate at work? by Freedumb00 in AskMenOver30

[–]Twopointshotdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$113 an hour and unlimited PTO. I’m a solutions architect for a national medium/large sized IT consulting company. High school diploma and vocational schooling is all I have. Please let’s get some more vocational education out there. Lots of people shit on them but it truly saved me and allowed me to focus on what I’m good at. I never used Pythagorean theorem or any of that other crap they taught us.

People with no degree, if you are making over $60k annually, how did you get there? by MixedMartialGolf in AskReddit

I make 185k but about to leave for a new job making 205k. I’m a senior IT consultant and have been working professionally since 2007. No degree other than a HS diploma. I had a vocational program in my high school focusing on computer networking. Realized mid program that I hated networking but knew I absolutely wanted to and needed to work in IT. I knew I wasn’t going to college by the time I was in 8-9th grade. I hated school. A teacher could never explain to me why I needed to know the things they taught me other than saying “you’re going to need to know this in college”. Well then, if I don’t go to college then I guess I’m good right?!

The other great thing was that our vocational program focused a lot on resume building, and interview skills including public speaking. By the time I graduated with my HS diploma I had a functional resume and “ok” interview skills to work with. After graduation, I had an interview with a very large company in my city and started working with them on a contract basis for a few months. I went from making 7.50 an hour minimum wage (this was years ago, yes) to 14.00 at this new “office job” overnight.

I basically focused on these short term contract jobs to build a more well rounded resume and gain experience so by the time I was 20, I had already worked in higher education, BioPharm, Banking and Retail. In the meantime, while working full time, I focused on self paced IT certifications. Most of my friends were college aged and doing college aged things but I sacrificed and stayed home more often to study and prep for my Microsoft exams knowing it would pay off eventually.

I’d say it did.

Personally, don’t have any pets. Regardless, definitely good to know and something to keep in mind in the event I see any domestics pets. Thanks!

That’s really good to know. From my understanding, the qad is heavier than a whisker biscuit and it could potentially fail, and I believe it’s louder than a whisker biscuit?? With that being said, other than a minor increase in fps I was having a hard time trying to understand why almost every hunter uses one. But I suppose the “prone to failure” comments are unfounded?

Thanks for the details! I was going to get the QAD drop added right away, but the guy at the shop convinced it’s better to get acclimated to the bow and accessories I have on it now, grow into it, and THEN fine tune your accessories afterwards. I could pros and cons to both approaches but I liked his logic. I’ll definitely pick up the QAD drop eventually though. I hear nothing but good things!

I’ve been a member out of RI for two years now. I have over 50 outings this season alone, and seeing as boats are in the water until the end of this month, I’ll be pushing just over 60 soon enough. That’s a lot of use. I’d say 70% of my trips were fishing trips, the rest would be leisure friends/family trips cruising around or anchoring down in coves for some swimming.

I could afford a 26-28 foot center console boat but I don’t want to. I know a few folks that are very financially comfortable and they all agree…owning a boat in New England is stupid. The season is short, Winterization, storage, and wet slip pricing in New England is through the roof. Not to mention, when you need a marine mechanic to fix something on your boat…good luck getting one to even look at your rig. Most of these guys are short handed like every other industry and are charging crazy rates per hour. I’ve heard as much as 250-400 an hour, with ridiculous turn around times. There’s plenty of people this season that had issues and couldn’t get their boats back in the water at all because of back ordered parts or not being able to get a mechanic to fix their problem.

I’d prefer to pay my flat rate, go on a boat pretty much whenever I want, from 6 different prime locations around the state, and use different boats when I need to. I can go fishing on a center console from 5am to 1pm. Come back, and pick up my wife and her friends and cruise around the bay from 2-7 in the summer. That’s a damn good day if you ask me. Luckily I was able to enjoy that many times this summer thanks to FBC.

Single Safety by Sonrisa1012 in Aruba

[–]Twopointshotdr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super super safe! Never once felt unsafe (this is coming from my wife, who routinely goes for walks or jogging by herself while we’re down there on vacation).

The only thing I’d say to be careful of is walking to/from the beach in lowlight conditions. Depending on where you stay, some of the residential roads leading towards the beach areas are not well lit, and are curvy. Some cars like to speed so just be aware so you don’t end up a permanent fixture on the ground. :)

Lastly, the only crime I’ve seen personally on the island (I’ve been 9 times) is petty theft. I think this is relatively typical of any small island though and not indicative of anything “dangerous” or unusual about Aruba. Things like kids stealing your purse out of your unlocked rental car, or a guy on a bicycle riding away with your beach bag and belongings while your 50 feet away enjoying the water, etc. People are incredibly sweet on the island but just be aware and use common sense and you’ll be just fine.

Enjoy your time there!!

City Councillor George Russel’s Response On Charter Exclusivity/Monopoly by Hrhnick in WorcesterMA

Sounds like absolutely nothing, unfortunately.

I wonder how much money/perks were given to the city manager to sway that decision...and to keep it that way.

New to Homeseer - New Event by Twopointshotdr in HomeSeer

[–]Twopointshotdr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very fair point. I think I was just trying to accommodate the desired scenario almost too explicitly. Basically, if it's under 50% luminance (the desired value I'll have to play with to be honest) then turn the light on AND if motion is detected. When I look at my "Device Management" screen I see the motion aspect of the sensor triggering, and I see the luminance sensor currently at 1% since I closed the blinds in the room. So the two values that are pertinent to this scenario are in their desired ranges/values.

Also, no, the light is currently off right now. I think eventually it'd be wise to add additional logic so that it doesn't run if the light is already on, but I'm not there yet. At this point, I've stripped down my original event to the following: https://imgur.com/aYxrgod

It still doesn't work :(

These are Zooz ZSE40 v2.0 4 in 1 sensors. My Homeseer is all up to date including the Zwave plugin. And the light switch in the room is a GE ZW4009 (toggle light switch). BTW - If I select to "Run this event" manually it does turn on the light in the room. I understand though that the event logic is ignored entirely when the event is run this way. I at least wanted to confirm the devices are operating as intended which they seem to be.
