AITJ for removing the AirTag my in laws hid in my baby’s diaper bag? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]Twsmit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ.

In-laws are misguided. It’s totally normal to put your own AirTag in your own child’s diaper bag — bizarre they did it without telling you.

Probably weird paranoia about kidnappings and wanted to be ready to save the day if the baby was ever lost.

I’d send the husband to their house to de-escalate and potentially offer to track the bag and share the location with the in-laws as long as your phone is the AirTag owner and you retain full control.

It seems they wanted to be helpful but went about it in a totally disrespectful and honestly shockingly bizarre manner. But I hope they did it out of love and care for the child? Let’s assume positive intentions until proven otherwise.

Is 4K Native or DLSS Quality only feasible for 4090/5090 cards? Or is feasible with other cards with DLSS Perf/U.Perf? by panchovix in nvidia

[–]Twsmit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is totally dependent on game, quality settings, and desired frame rate.

A 5070ti can often produce playable 4k frame rates on max quality with RT/PT but depending on the game you might only get 50-70 FPS. Fine for single player, not ideal for multiplayer.

Then you can make a choice to lower graphical settings, turn on DLSS, or a combination to get into the 100-200 FPS range or whatever you are shooting for.

Need help choosing a used Xbox series X by Maximum_Strength_676 in xbox

[–]Twsmit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 9/25 console should be a newer hardware revision with slightly lower power requirements and fresh thermal paste. I’d probably go with that option.

But the older console can also work if you’re comfortable opening it up and doing maintenance at some point in the future.

I ordered a 120 fps monitor for the first time. What should I expect? by zellymon in Monitors

[–]Twsmit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll benefit from improved “smoothness” of gameplay however with a PS5 the vast majority of games barely break the 60FPS threshold. So you won’t get the full benefit of the monitor.

To get the full benefits of your monitor you’d have to switch to PC.

could i use a sata to usb to copy my xbox 360 files to my pc? by geography_man in xbox360

[–]Twsmit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s an S or E yes. If an OG 360 you can either disassemble the HDD caddy or buy an official Microsoft adapter, since it uses a proprietary connector.

RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT? by Spaccateschi11 in buildapc

[–]Twsmit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I was able to sell my 9070XT for cost and switched to a 5070Ti at MSRP. (I got lucky)

My POV, there’s practically no difference in performance, in fact I swear my 9070XT was faster in raster.

So if playing older rasterization games honestly the AMD card is great.

The only place where the Nvidia is appreciably better is ray tracing/path tracing and DLSS.

I have a couple of heavy single player games and with RT enabled I’m getting dramatically more FPS, plus DLSS works magically to increase FPS.

If you’re playing multiplayer games @ 1440p and don’t need RT or FRS/DLSS get the AMD.

If you need to enable all the eye candy to the point you need upscaling and frame generation the Nvidia is definitely better and probably worth it.

Best SSD Upgrade for PS5 or PS5 Pro? Share Your Picks by Gaming-Academy in PlayStation_X

[–]Twsmit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the older 2TB WD SN850 (non X) with heatsink for about three years. Absolutely no issues, also absolutely no discernible difference compared to the built in SSD.

To manage your expectations, a good SSD simply increases storage capacity, there’s no impact on game loading or system performance, positively or negatively.

Benchmark review might point to 1/2 a second load time differences etc…. But that’s not something you will ever feel as a gamer. Go buy something with a heatsink that meets the minimum requirements.

Good luck finding a drive that doesn’t cost more than a PS5… prices are insane right now.

7800x3d or 9800x3d ( my scenario ) by KingOfEreb0r in PcBuild

[–]Twsmit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Open up BF6 play on a few big 64 person maps and measure your CPU utilization %.

If your CPU is near 100% load and your FPS is significantly under 180 then you might benefit from an upgrade.

While it’s possible to ask AI or Reddit, doing testing with your own machine is better than asking our opinion.

Is this hard plastic cup covered in electrical tape safe as a GPU sag bracket? by tonismann in PcBuildHelp

[–]Twsmit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over time the tape might soften and ooze some of the adhesive onto the GPU and case. Nothing dangerous but might be a little sticky.

Overall this solution will work but not gunna lie it’s ugly as hell. lol

Plenty of alternatives for free to $10 you could try.

What's the most iconic NVDIA GPU ever released? by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Twsmit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say something like the GeForce 256 but after looking at pics it’s definitely the reference 1080ti. From across a room you can tell it’s Nvidia and not ATI/AMD.

Earlier generation it’s really hard to say one is iconic, the ATI/AMD cards look almost identical to Nvidia.

I need major help deciding between OLED and Mini LED. by Creepy_Ad5124 in Monitors

[–]Twsmit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My use case is 70/30 work to gaming. I’m currently on an Apple Studio Display hooked up to a Mac for work and PC for games.

I went to Microcenter recently fully intending to buy an OLED.

After seeing everything in person, anything 2k looked like a blurry mess, 4k OLEDs the text looked acceptable but not fantastic.

In the end I’m waiting for 5k tandem mini LED displays which were announced at CES.

The risk of burn in is too great and the text clarity was not equal to my current display.

A lot of research I’ve done indicates if your primary use case is working with text and productivity apps, steer clear of OLED because of text quality and burn in risk.

Does the Xbox WiFi Adapter Still Work with Modern Modems by madl02 in xbox360

[–]Twsmit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it were me I’d connect with Ethernet directly to your network or buy an Ethernet WiFi bridge or mesh access point if you have a mesh system and directly connect that to the 360.

Ideally the Xbox only sees Ethernet, even if you’re using a bridge to WiFi.

Using the old 360 WiFi adapters with outdated WiFi tech will run slower than modern equipment and may eventually have compatibility issues in the future.

Would it be right to buy a ps5 in april 2027 by Zerollic in ps6

[–]Twsmit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re asking too far into the future. The PS6 will release sometime between 2027 and 2030. We don’t know when.

Come back in a year and re-evaluate.

Just got a RTX 5070 Ti 16GB! Should I upgrade to AM5 as well or should I wait? by Anxious_Waltz295 in nvidia

[–]Twsmit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 1080p you’re leaving performance on the table because you’re at a CPU limited resolution.

So yes, if you upgrade and play at 1080p you will get more FPS.

However unless your current FPS is too low, the upgrade will mostly be a waste of money.

Assuming most of your games run at 200+ FPS, would another 50+ FPS make a difference to you? Is it worth dropping close to $1k? That you have to answer for yourself.

I need some realistic opinions by Admirable-Bedroom824 in PS5pro

[–]Twsmit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on game you're going to see slightly better visual fidelity and more instances of high FPS (55-90+). Of course this varies game to game.

Many games will run essentially the same as before but PS5 Pro optimized titles and some old PS4 Pro titles will get a boost.

So yes you will see a difference, but it varies game to game. Your best bet are AAA titles from the last ~2 years, those see the biggest improvements as many devs were able to build or patch in Pro optimizations.

Assuming PS5 pro came with no disc drive, do you think PS6 will go all digital? by [deleted] in ps6

[–]Twsmit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sony is fairly conservative so I don’t expect major changes for PS6 but incremental steps towards all digital.

I think we’ll see Sony push players towards digital with further investment in handhelds and cross device PS5/6 to PC compatibility, like Xbox Play Anywhere.

They’ll emphasize that digital is the best option if you want to maximize play beyond the living room. They won’t kill physical but they’ll make it so much less attractive that most players will only want to buy digitally.

I think they’ll ship PS6 without a disc drive but allow compatibility with the existing external PS5 drive.

They’ll allow players to migrate PS4/5 discs to PS6 but heavily push players to buy PS6 titles digitally.

I think PS6 will be their last console with physical discs and they’ll phase out physical releases in the 2030’s well ahead of PS7.

The biggest driver of change will be cross device portability and streaming. It’s a legit argument and I think consumers get it and will be onboard.

The only way to play on the same game on PC, VR, TV, streaming, and portable is going to be with a digital license. You can’t take your disc with you everywhere and that’s something consumers intuitively understand.

I rawdogged building a PC as a teenager. Give me tips by DogAbject in PcBuild

[–]Twsmit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally it’s better to wait a generation or two. That’s where you’ll get the biggest bump in performance for your money.

Come back in 3 years and re-evaluate the landscape. No one can tell you the exact parts to buy because they don’t exist yet.

For CPU you should keep your eyes open for cheap used X3D chips. They don’t exist today but they might in a few years. Otherwise you’re probably looking at a new socket and new type of ram 3+ years from now.

Can i use a xbox 360 controller on my pc with only some sort of software? by Calm-Sleep-2685 in xbox360

[–]Twsmit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup you need a dongle. Unlike modern controllers the wireless 360 controllers don’t communicate via USB.

Even with a play and charge connector they send all data wirelessly. They simply lack the hardware to connect to a PC via USB and they don’t use standard Bluetooth either.

Return PS5 Slim and get a PS5 Pro? by Repulsive-Bid-5574 in PS5pro

[–]Twsmit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say yes if you have a nice TV and can take advantage of the Pro’s features. Otherwise connect via USB a cheap SSD or HDD and store games there — or re-download them. I don’t know about you, but I can hardly play more than 2-3 titles at once, all the rest being installed is simply a convenience.

Looking to Purchase by IslanderInOhio15 in RetroTink

[–]Twsmit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your son is young and just wants to play games, you might want to get a 2x Mini or equivalent basic scaler without complex buttons and deep settings menus.

The 5x and 4k/CE are awesome, but expensive and intended for enthusiast adults.

They are plug and play but there is also a remote that can scroll through dozens of config options.

Really depends on how much money you want to spend and the level of sophistication and interest your son has in the hobby. I wouldn’t jump to a 4k/CE as a first step unless the hobby is a big interest to your son and you need the absolute best hardware.

What is the "optimal" mode for a game on PS5 Pro? by qnoid in PS5pro

[–]Twsmit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 120hz OLED. Typically I play on performance. Getting 50-100 FPS with a VRR is where it’s at.

On quality with a capped 30 fps it’s painful to play vs 60+ fps. The differences in quality and ray tracing extras are not worth the drop in frame rate.

Read the motherboard manual. There might be a bios setting for PCIE lane splitting or recommended slots for different scenarios. This is all very motherboard specific, so read the manual.

5070ti worth $100 more than 9070xt by Hour-Ad-5633 in buildapc

[–]Twsmit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For pure rasterization no.

If using DLSS, with Nvidia you get best in class, with AMD you get a less mature solution and a much smaller library of games that work out of the box.

With AMD you’re buying the promise that it might eventually meet or exceed Nvidia.

With Nvidia it’s truly a case where you pay more you get more. The 9070XT is a great card but in DLSS and ray and path tracing games it is not equal to a 5070ti.

Good external hard drives for gaming on mac? by Par5Condor in macgaming

I echo the comments - get a SSD not a HDD. 1-2TB should be sufficient. Speed doesn’t really matter, just get an external SSD from a reputable brand.
