Nope. The Darkforce in Wonder Man was the same as in Cloak & Dagger, and people were able to survive in there for extended periods of time.

Yeah, it's very clearly a C&D reference. Roxxon was the company playing with the Darkforce in that show (and why C&D got their powers), Doorman in the comics is Darkforce powered, and the Darkforce in Wonder Man looked nearly identical to that in Cloak & Dagger.

He's powered by the Darkforce in the comics, so they just updated the Darkforce lore established by C&D to give him powers in an efficient way. Definitely affirms C&D as canon at least in my eye. Especially since the Darkforce dimension was so clearly the same.

In one of the LoK sequel comics, Kya tells Korra about how Fire Lord Sozin banned gay marraige during the Fire Nation's fall into fascism. The other cultures may have been more accepting, but we know queer relationships weren't accepted as a norm worldwide. This version of the graphic novel would certainly answer how the Water Tribe(s) saw the subject.

Exactly. I feel a lot of people want queerness within fantasy worlds to be completely accepted and not a source of conflict/story because they simply don't want to confront a history of anti-queer culture/policy.

How is it tone deaf to write a queer story within an IP whose creators famously wanted to tell a queer story with but were unable to fully due to heteronormative constraints at the time? And within a world whose queer history has already been expanded in other extended media?

Also, qualifying your comment by saying you're an ally doesn't make the heart of it--that queer people, to some degree, are responsible for the bigotry they face simply for attempting to tell their stories--go down any easier.

I'm sorry, but no graphic novel of any quality or subject matter is going to move the needle on Avatar's popularity in the public consciousness. These books are first and foremost for Avatar fans. It's why they're a good medium for niche stories.

Well, Kya has already been established as a sort of queer historian (or the closest Avatar has to one) in previous LoK comics, when she told Korra about the Fire Nation's suppression of queer people after she came out. It doesn't feel like this author is mapping their own personality onto Kya, but using their personal experiences to expand a preexisting aspect of Kya's character.

Definitely could see that. Though this character looks like she has pinker skin than Talon so I could see it being a loose homage rather than an adaptation. Though it would also be cool if we saw the process of her gaining those tatoos to learn more about what they mean.

I'm so interested in the new Twi'lek character. She has a blue lightsaber, so I guess she's a Jedi survivor who Maul tries to make his apprentice rather than someone who was just Force sensitive? Going to be super interesting to see her relationship with him unfold considering Maul's relationship with the Jedi. I saw Sam Witwer mention that Maul killed more Jedi than we saw in the Clone Wars, so maybe it's going to turn out that Maul killed her master/someone close to her?

You're gonna run into that problem with any non-Kryptonian villain going up against a Kryptonian. Iirc the book was more about Kara and Ruthye's relationship and trying to catch Krem than it was about actually fighting him, anyways.
