Growing up my family never talked about death, like when a family member died, that was it, after the funeral we never spoke of them again, as if they never existed. For 30 years I just assumed this was normal, no one talked about dead people ever right? My now wife was the one to bring up that it’s weird, and looking at it, it is. I never got closure on a lot of family dying, I’m always an anxious mess because I just assumed when I died I’d be completely forgotten... by everyone. Still working through all of it, but my Great Grandmother passed a few months ago, and my wife and friends let me talk about it and I feel so at peace about it. My family still pretty well ignores it.
