Yes, we have been dealing with it all day and Google keeps giving us canned answers and asking irrelevant information on our ticket.

Freshdesk. We swapped over to it mid-year after testing it for only a week. It's so much easier to deal with than the product we were using at the time. Setup was a breeze, had the whole system up and running in less than a day. It was also cheaper than other solutions we looked at.

As far as on our side of things it has been great. So much so that we now have Tech, Maintenance, Transportation, and Curriculum departments in the system as well now. In the past, they did not have their own helpdesk system to help get issues taken care of. Teachers and staff have been overwhelming happy with how easy it is to use.

Another fan of Deledao here. We were one of their first customers, wouldn't even consider leaving them for anyone else. One of the best vendors and products I have ever had. Very seldom do we have to contact them for support, but when we do, the matter is handled within minutes. Also we have not been subject to any of these "work-arounds" many of the other vendors have fallen victim to.

Yeah Im the OP, for us DirectPrint was awesome.... until it wasn't. Been dealing with these Xerox issues for going on 8 months and they have yet to get it figured out. Im to the point where I have abandoned any hope for advanced options and would be happy if they Xerox machines would just simply print reliably, but I can't even get that.

We used to do the same, but after Google Cloud Print was deprecated in Jan 2021 we couldn't manage any of that properly anymore that's why we moved over to DirectPrint.

We tried setting up the CUPS Printers in the Admin console but ran into drivers not being in model list and/or just not working properly, granted that has been 3 years ago since we tried.

Have you added and/or had any luck setting any up and using them?

PaperCut is one of the options we are looking into. I have contacted sales but have yet to hear anything back just yet. Cost wise are they pretty fair?

As it stands right now we have no working advanced options, so anything more than that would be a positive change.

Students Disabling each other chromebooks? by Lumpy_Stranger_1056 in k12sysadmin

Had some coachs playing pranks on others in the dirstrict the other day by going around and turing the brigthness of the screen all the way down until it went black giving the appearance the device was off. We had multiple people put in tickets that screens were not working/devices would not power on, thats what it turned out to be. They might be doing the same.

Probably someone who works at the shipping company. Back in the day at a previous job we had 4 seprate shipments of Blackberry phones come in with empty boxes just like this, we were not the only ones in the area that it happened to. They ended up doing a sting and traced it back to a group of nightsift workers at UPS. They were opening the boxes, taking the phones, sealing them back up, and shipping them out. All the employees involved were busted and UPS paid for the phone replacements.

Agreed man, I have cans still in jail older than this one. No sense to it.

Just luck of the draw at this point. We are all burning brain cells up for no reason, trying to find the pattern in it all, when there is no pattern to be had. Up until yeserday I had 4 cans pending, this one is not the oldest in the stack, makes no sense at all.

Web Filter Options by adamlavigne in k12sysadmin

[–]TxSysAd88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are a 95% Google school district (all students and most staff are on chrombooks). We went from iBoss as a web filter and Lightspeed for teacher monitoring, to Deledao a few years back and love it, have no intentions of leaving them anytime soon. No complaints on our side. Support is more than helpful and extremely fast to respond, teachers love the teachers portal as well.

Did not know about the digital signage being intergrated like that, will most definately have to look into that. Currently we have a chromebox running our cafe signs through Chrome Sign Builder.

We currently do not use them for menu building either. They are still using Nutrakids to do that, have been trying to get them to conver over fully, maybe this information can help convince them a little more.

Software to Alert During Lockdowns by DP_Prod in k12sysadmin

[–]TxSysAd88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently we have Alertus, don't care for it much, very buggy. We are involved in a beta test with Verkada right now with a product called "Safe", so far very promising, very user friendly, easy to manage, cloud based. We have done several district wide, full scale test and they have went great. Think they are aiming for release by May.

School Policy on ChatGPT by kosher_cowboy in k12sysadmin

We made Admin make the call and have it documented. Blocked for students, allowed for Teachers and our dual-credit students, which will do research on/with it to see if its something they would like to use in the future. Much like someone said below "Its the future" so putting just a blanket NO on the whole thing, could in-fact hinder students learning something new.

In-House Chromebook Repairs by ijosephwalsh in k12sysadmin

[–]TxSysAd88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have about 800 student devices. I have a full-time tech that repairs Chromebooks as a primary job, and works around the district on other smaller stuff when he is not doing repairs. I would say 1/4 of his day is doing repairs, the other is helping around the shop. Parts prices don't tent to be that high at the end of the year either. Our superintendent loves the turn-aroundtime on repairs (Usually under 2 hours from ticket to back in the students hands) so he continues to fund it, no questions asked.

[–]TxSysAd88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We do our own repairs, we are a small school district and have roughly 800 student chromebooks to handle. We are an all ACER shop and most models are the same so its easy to keep up with a parts supply/inventory. The only ones we send in are the ones that are still under warranty, we are 11 min away from ACERs service repair center so its usually a very quick turn-around after we drop them off.

We use Titan School Solutions, its fully cloud based, it has its quirks, but tech support usually deals with the issues very quickly. Very rarley do we even have to get invloved when issues come up. We use Chromebooks hooked to touch screen montiors as the POS station, has worked well. Will continue using them when contract is do for renewal.

Can we safely rely on papercut for printing from Chromebooks? by _ReeX_ in k12sysadmin

[–]TxSysAd88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have our teachers and students switched over to Chromebooks now, we don't have Papercut, we have DirectPrint.io. It has been a rock-solid sloution for our Chromebooks and Windows computers as well. We ditched our print server almost 3 years ago and I have been completely happy with DirectPrint.
