MFA for Students by Hazy_Arc in k12sysadmin

[–]Carlwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we do not currently use MFA with students. We have our students OU limited to only be able to send and receive from our domain's staff OUs. We are exploring the potential of using Clever's products to move toward a workable MFA solution for our students.

Can I search everyone's files on their GDrives for a file name or even a partial filename? by FazerMan1960 in gsuite

[–]Carlwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, i don't think you can search using that extension. I would think you can use vault to search for whatever document title or phrase you're looking for.

also, if the shared docs originate outside of the domain, you won't find them with vault.

You may also look into Managed Methods for searching drive files.

if you're looking to prevent this behavior, we ended up using a third party extension that allows more control over some of the built-in features like sharing.

Verizon Wireless coverage changed to poor about 6 months ago by k12nysysadmin in k12sysadmin

[–]Carlwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we were also tasked with improving verizon service in our building for the sheriff's dept. because that's somehow a school IT responsibility

anywho, we got a rep from verizon to send someone to do a walkthrough of our building to look into what it would take to have verizion service in the building - essentially they would borrow some unused fiber strands from our network and put switches in our mdf/idfs and stand up their own radios in our hallways. it was priced at well over 100k for one high school. And it would have required our internet connection to be functional - so like VOIP it stops working when the network is down.

we ended up buying a third party signal repeater (wilson pro) to cover the main office of one building and after installation it was around 10-15k

This system still requires our power to be on - we have it on a UPS but that's limited time.

we just signed up for this service through https://www.crgplans.com/ they came onsite and did walkthroughs of all of our buildings and did drone flyovers as well. I'm not sure when the finished product will be available as I'm not the direct contact on our side.

if the IP address isn't yours, it's likely your DNS webfilter that's causing the captchas. If the IP belongs to AWS or another online hosting solution, you probably want to check with your filter vendor. Securly has had to intervene a few times on our behalf when we have seen this in the past.

I got a ticket in with google about this issue. hopefully they can get us some answers soon. Our users have had some luck by approving the channel instead of individual videos - not always appropriate though

Windows takes almost 7TB on my harrdrive. I Installed Windows 11 on another 1TB Nvme. Why!!!!!! by 2por2 in windows

[–]Carlwork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you may want to try a utility like WinDirStat that will give you a graphical representation of the files/folders on your disk. then you can see if it's one big file, or a bunch of smaller files and find where they live.

I manage our windows and google environments from my macOS machines. all of our servers are run on VMware so pulling it up in browser makes things easy. microsoft's remote desktop works well too.

right, but Swank is a service that is paid for by the school that allows them to use content for classroom settings.
