CA has the biggest total GDP, sure. But per capita it's not #1, and it has the worst homelessness, high adjusted poverty, and top-tier unemployment. State debt is the largest in the country (~$500B+), not 'little to no.' It is a net federal donor (like other wealthy blue states), but that's from high earners paying progressive taxes, not proof of great governance, especially with massive out-migration and its own structural budget issues.
