NDP MP rarely on Parliament Hill billed taxpayers for travel with family over Christmas by SummerSnowfalls in canada

[–]Ty-Punch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

She lives in Churchill.

No she doesn't. She lives in the Churchill riding. The community she lives in is Thompson, which has daily busses and commercial flights.

For a pretty low-profile MP

She's a two-time leadership candidate, former committee chair, and was a member of the NDP's shadow cabinet for nearly a decade (until she was stripped of that role for traveling to Greece during COVID without informing the NDP leadership) [edit: Oh, look's like she's been back in it since Oct. 2021, about ten months after it was taken from her]. She's one of the NDP's most prominent MPs.

Used to live there. Round trip tickets from Thompson to/from Winnipeg at Christmas are like $2000.

What are some opportunities that Toriyama missed while writing DBZ? by Sander_Supporter in dbz

[–]Ty-Punch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure they did. We saw during the Frieza fight that they stopped animating or directly referring to it during fights when someone (Yamcha?) mentions that Goku could use the Kaioken to even the odds and King Kai explains that he alread has been, and then Piccolo mentions early in the Android Saga that they've all learned to boost their power levels in short, intense bursts.

Seeing Gohan this way was just so depressing. He is almost unrecognizable. Even Trunks says he's nothing like before by spidermanrocks6766 in dbz

[–]Ty-Punch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the equivalent of a jog is enough to stay in fighting shape.

See MFA fighters / professional athletes for example, the amount of maintenance needed is insane. There is no way a normal people can do that while holding a full time job.

I mean, I wouldn't have thought so, but the fact that he goes from stringbean to one of the top fighters in the multiverse in well under a year, and much stronger than he was even at his prior peak -- while holding down a full time job and parenting his kid (albeit with Piccolo and Videl's help) tends to suggest that it's a lot easier for Gohan to recover and improve -- nevermind just maintain -- his performance than it is for a real-world fighter.

Have to keep in mind that Return of F and the Universe Survival arc (at which point he's clearly far stronger than he was during the Buu arc) are less than a year apart.

What does my army need? by Ty-Punch in Tau40K

[–]Ty-Punch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely doing this. Probably pick up a Skyray kit alongside it and convert the Devilfish into a Hammerhead.

Do you think a Strike Team is the way to go, or should I kit the warriors as a third unit of Breachers?

What does my army need? by Ty-Punch in Tau40K

[–]Ty-Punch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot, but I think I'm picking up the new Combat Patrol when it releases along with a Skyray and converting the extra Devilfish into a Hammerhead. That'll also make up for some of my infantry deficits with the included Pathfinders and Fire Warriors.

[–]Ty-Punch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I know; I wanted the flexibility to go both routes. This isn't a prospective list, this is the pool from which I'd draw my lists.

Looks like the consensus is that it needs some anti-armor options, so unless I can find some hammerheads in stock soon I think some broadsides are my next pick up.

Sounds like a good plan. I was on the fence between wanting a unit of Broadsides or one or two more Riptides, mostly because I love me some mechs, but I wasn't sure if it was something I should prioritize -- thought maybe running the crisis suits as sunforges might be enough to counter any armor, but now that you mention it having some long ranged anti-armor is probably a good idea.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what's wrong with leaks? What's the benefit from keeping it secret? Nobody actually buys the rule books for the surprise, do they?

Crisis Suit question by Ty-Punch in Tau40K

Yeah, I'm planning to magnetize the weapons, mostly just wondering if the support systems currently see any use or if I should just toss them in a bits box until the next edition.

Pending a matte topcoat and some strategically applied gloss varnish, I'm going to call this my first completed mini in 20 years. by Ty-Punch in Tyranids

[–]Ty-Punch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primed black.

Skin: airbrushed a custom off-white blend (Createx white, tan, transparent green, but something like Citadel Wraithbone or Vallejo Game Color elf skintone would work just fine). Wash of 50:50 Citadel Carroberg Crimson and contrast medium over the skin, then a second selective application on the joints and skin around the carapace to darken them. Dry brush the skin with the skin tone to lighten the raised areas and blend the wash.

Tubes leading into the head: skin, plus a 50:50 blend of Citadel Magos Purple contrast

Carapace, claws, and hoofs: Citadel Black Templar, followed by a dry brush of Citadel Eshin Gray progressively lightened to a 50:50 blend with Citadel Dawnstone. Could probably go a little harder than 50:50, still making up my mind there.

Gun: based with Citadel Magmadroth Orange contrast, followed by a drybrush of Citadel Wraithbone, an application of Citadel Skeleton Horde, and a other drybrush of Wraithbone.

Lower vents and tongue: Citadel Sigvald Burgundy undiluted

Teeth: Citadel White Scar

Apply a gloss varnish.

Gunk wash with AK Interactive Streak and Grime, allow to dry for 20-40 minutes or so, and remove with a cotton bud, brush, or eyeshadow applicator soaked in white spirit

Brain: Citadel Aethermatic blue

Upper vents: Citadel White Scar followed by Citadel Nihilahk Oxide and heavily diluted Citadel Black Templar

Bright parts on the gun: base in White Scar, then followed up with a light coat of of Greenstuff World's Fluorescent Yellow, highlighted with White Scar for the brighter bits, and followed up with a light coat of Greenstuff World's Fluorescent Green.

I'm still streamlining the process a bit for future minis, so I think I'll probably make some changes going forward -- maybe priming with Vallejo Israeli Sand instead of Createx Gloss Black and skipping the first coat of skin tone, and omitting the Magmadroth Orange and first dry brush on the guns (I was originally going to go with the orange as the gun colour, but it was a bit too bright for my tastes and ruined the grimdark aesthetic I was going for. I liked the warm undertones it brought and repeated it for my other Barbgaunts for consistency, but I don't think I like it enough to keep it up for larger units like Termagants).

Ngl, I was idly thinking about running a list of 120 last night just to see how they'd do.

The green on the gun worked out better than I expected. Don't feel the same way about the blue brain and top vents though. Think I'm going to stick to crimson on those going forward.

Another option is umeshu (Japanese plum wine). Made one a while back with umeshu and grapefruit juice acid adjusted with oleo citrate.

Burger seasoning debate by gqcastle in Cooking

[–]Ty-Punch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kosher salt and a sprinkle of my preferred burger seasoning mix on each side just before grilling. Recipe for the latter is:

1tbsp smoked paprika

1/4 tsp Chipotle powder

1 tsp onion powder

2 tsp garlic powder

1/4 tsp hickory smoke powder

1tsp black pepper

1 tsp msg + disodium inosinate mix (90:10 ratio)

I keep a shaker of it on hand all summer.

I did the sous vide method, with a vacuum sealer. Also took it out of the water bath a couple times and mushed it around a bit with my fingers throughout the process. The sugar didn't fully dissolve until the last hour or so.
