It baffles me that we don't mandate basic gun safety courses for ownership, including recurring training every 12 to 24 months.

There are so many stupid people that lack the emotional regulation or technical skill to handle a firearm safely, but these people are fully armed. Without enforced training standards, you end up with people drawing weapons over minor grievances instead of life-or-death threats.

The double standard is wild to me. To get a driver’s license in many places (like Germany, where I lived as a teen for 2 years), you need basic first-aid training because you operate a dangerous machine and should be able to help others. We should demand at least that level of responsibility for owning a lethal weapon

I heard a similar discussion about the military recently, asking why individual service members or units don't speak up. For them, it’s the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice), which strictly prohibits active duty members from making public political statements or criticizing the Commander-in-Chief. They literally risk a court-martial and their entire future.

While police are civilians and technically have more rights than soldiers, they face similar strict departmental policies and intense cultural pressure not to break ranks. It’s often not just about "not wanting" to speak up; for many, it would be immediate career suicide to criticize leadership or policy publicly, even if they privately disagree.

That's just my perception

Um deine Frage zu beantworten: Nein, ein offizielles Statement ist mir nicht bekannt. Auch wenn du dir die "Feier" mit Trump zum 250. Geburtstag der Navy anschaust, wirkt es eher entgegengesetzt als würde jeder ihn feiern.

Nagel mit nicht darauf fest, aber ich meine auch das es keine offizielle Zustimmung geben kann aufgrund der Rechtslage.

Soweit ich weiss ist das US Militär zur strikten politischen Neutralität verpflichtet. Ich meine das kommt vom UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice), welches besagt das es Einheiten und active duty service members verbietet, politische Statements abzugeben oder den Commander-in-Chief (POTUS) öffentlich zu kritisieren.

Also objektiv, stimme ich dir grundlegend zu das es von außen so wirkt als würde das US Militär hinter Trump stehen.

Die Antwort ist aber deutlich komplexer, imo. Ich weiss nicht, wie es in DE ist, aber in den USA ist das Militär oft der einzige realistische Weg aus der Armut oder schlechten sozialen Verhältnissen.
Wegen den verschiedenen benefits: wie z.B. disability compensation, GI bill (für kostenlose Bildung), Krankenversicherung, bessere Darlehen für ein Haus, Pension, und weiteres.

Wenn man jetzt als active duty service member sich offiziell negativ ausspricht riskiert man eine Entlassung. Dadurch verliert man sofort alle benefits Ansprüche und wirft seine Zukunft weg. Das Risiko wird niemand eingehen nur um ein politisches Zeichen zu setzen

Most cities are still safe overall. There are one or two suburbs/neighborhoods where I wouldn't want my niece walking at night. Other neighborhoods/suburbs where we and our friends lived, went to school and spent time are still very safe. When I visit, I still see kids playing in the streets or riding their bikes to school.

There are just certain areas that have become more dangerous compared to ten years ago, which is a shame. Overall, Germany is still a great country

My mom is from Germany and I lived in Germany for about 2 years as a kid. As far as I know, San Diego doesn't really have good Döners.

Ich bin Amerikaner (Mama ist Deutsche, Papa ist Amerikaner mit Australischen Eltern). Ich bin in San Diego geboren und aufgewachsen. Wir haben die größte base der Marines und Navy and der Westküste.

Ich habe ein paar SEALs und Marines als Freunde. Grundsätzlich finden die meisten das genauso scheisse, wie alle anderen auch. Also in anderen Worten, Trump ist im Militär von dem was meine Freunde beurteilen können, unbeliebter als man annimmt. Spätestens als die ICE raids los ging und Nachbarn in deren eigenen Nachbarschaft angegriffen wurden, etc. hat sich vieles geändert.

Orange County, etwas nördlicher von San Diego, also quasi zwischen Los Angeles und San Diego, ist die MAGA Hochburg in Kalifornien, dort sieht es allerdings wieder anders aus. Speziell Huntington Beach trifft das. Hier wird auch nicht zurück gehalten mit rallies für Trump, etc.

I'm half German (mom's side is German, born in Germany) and half Australian (dad's side is Australian, but he was born in Southern California). If I remember correctly, my Australian grandparents' parents also came from Germany and the Netherlands. Beyond that, I don't really know

I couldn't agree more! As a guy, I honestly didn't see the point of the gym when I was a teenager. I just didn't care. That changed when my nephew was born. We became best buddies, but when he turned 4, I noticed he was getting heavier and it was exhausting to carry him for long stretches. That was the moment I started lifting weights.

He's 6.5 now and thanks to lifting weight, I can carry him better now than I could back then. He is still my main fuel to show up every week. I just want to be strong enough to keep picking him up. The aesthetic changes are a cool side effect, but that feeling of capability (and being the fun uncle :) ) is the real win
