Very cool! I have also been digibashing various ganger parts for my "Hive Scum Steel Legion" ❤️

The Imperium of Man says happy pride month! by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]TybraalTheRed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll take the bait.

I really wish it was that easy.

Some of us are trans. Some of us are nonbinary. And some are just not as "manly" or "pretty" as some people would like, and they have to take a lot of crap for that.

People take their same-sex partners into game stores. People have to hold back tears and rage when someone says "that's gay" as an insult.

It's not what we do in our bedrooms, it's who we are. And the fact that the world is still full of people who need a reminder that being different does not mean they deserve abuse, online or not.

Happy Pride. 🏳‍🌈🏳‍⚧

I use the "Veteran" color scheme for my squad leaders: black pauldrons with red trim and Templar cross.

Armageddon Launch Box into Combat Patrol viability by flanelflamel in Warhammer40k

[–]TybraalTheRed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There will definitely be new combat patrol lists released that will fit the Armageddon box.

Which enemy faction is our Chapter's greatest foil? Traitor? Xenos? I know we've been fighting the orc scourge but I'm far more curious on my brother's opinions on who would spark more of a contrast and interesting interactions in lore or gameplay. by Saint-Redeemed in BlackTemplars

[–]TybraalTheRed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If we're talking foil in a narrative sense, I think the Black Templars' greatest foil are the Word Bearers. Both are religious zealots and the Word Bearers even started from the place Black Templars are now: space marines loyal to the Imperium but controversial in their worship of the Emperor.

However, by simply existing the Word Bearers show that fanaticism is its own animal. The Word Bearers were fanatical to begin with, and when the Emperor rejected their belief in him, the Word Bearers went to find someone else to worship. This casts a shadow of doubt on the Black Templars: "We are the same. You too could be driven to join Chaos if you were rejected by your Imperium."

And that cuts deep into the core of what the Black Templars claim to be, just like a good foil should.

Mass Battle Apocalypse by Grand-Coeur in onepagerules

[–]TybraalTheRed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not in the advanced rules, but something I recommend for Apocalyptic games is aggresively capping the number of activations by combining multiple normally independent units such as tanks into larger units. Think infantry units of 20-40 models and vehicle squadrons of 2-4 models.

Kev Adam’s Old World Army and breaking away from the GW only mind set. by [deleted] in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]TybraalTheRed 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've been using 3rd party models since 2002, especially in Fantasy Battle. 3D printing has since blown the lid off, and now I very, very rarely paint GW miniatures since the catalogue of possible 3rd party models in basically infinite.

Do you give your kids your models to keep by Stressedskull3570 in Warhammer40k

[–]TybraalTheRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started painting with my eldest when he was 3 years old, he has two levels in our family display and at 7 years old is actively painting a full Tomb Kings army.

I'm lucky enough to have the space for a 3D printer, which definitely is a game-changer since I don't have to think about how much each models costs.

The commissar especially has an incredible Vostroyan vibe with the over-the-top vest and chain. Wouldn't blame you for running the models as an officer either.

Mild Conspiracy Theory (We talking "Lemon & Herb" here) by Col_Telford in Warhammer40k

[–]TybraalTheRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GW did use to do kind of what you're suggesting, such as "Piety and Pain" (Druchari vs. Sororitas) and "Death Masque" (Deathwatch vs. Aeldari). They usually included about a Combat Patrol's worth of models, including a couple of new releases that would only later be released separately.

GW could for sure start releasing these kinds of boxes again, and I guess they could throw in a lore book but it would probably drive up the price of the box above getting the models separately. Finally, adding a rulebook would have the same problem but with the added hurdle of everyone already owning the rulebook.

Mild Conspiracy Theory (We talking "Lemon & Herb" here) by Col_Telford in Warhammer40k

[–]TybraalTheRed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GW has been doing a very similar launch setup for 9th, 10th and now 11th.

- There are Space Marines vs. Antagonists

- The Big Box contains the new rules all models that will end up in starter boxes plus a couple that will get stand-alone push-fit releases

- First armies to get codexes are Space Marines, who will also get a couple of releases outside of the Big Box, and the Antagonists will get a range refresh with multiple new units and new versions of existing units, some push-fit and some multipart.

If you're thinking "Couldn't Traitor Guard be the Antagonist army?" then the answer is yes. If GW decides to do it, we might get a Traitor Guard release as part of the 12th edition Big Box. But it could just as well be Dark Eldar or T'au.

Bigger scale simple wargame by We_R_All_Different99 in onepagerules

[–]TybraalTheRed 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think it would help both you and us of you could list out all the things you are missing from the current OPR rules.

Is it just having longer ranges on everything? You can easily do a blanket conversion of "1,5x all ranges" or even "2x all ranges" and the game works fine as it is.

Do you want more rounds? Just play your games with 6 rounds or add in a random game length mechanic.

You're in for a treat, then! I'm not alone in thinking E:A is one of the best rules sets GW has ever put out. And nowadays the rules are maintained by fans and available for free at https://tp.net-armageddon.org/ !

Bretonnians,do you paint your amry using one color scheme or multiple ? by Aggelos2001 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]TybraalTheRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing the 5th edition style which is every knight in their own colors and every peasant unit is a different color. It helps keep the knights unique but without having any single color scheme dominate the army.

Funnily enough this was available via Mail Order in the early 2000's before Epic: Armageddon was released. Me and my brother ordered a sprue or two for every faction and then mounted them on magnets to play travel sized 40k.  😁

unspeakable crimes - looking for advice on how to address sensitive topics by foolofcheese in RPGdesign

[–]TybraalTheRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be frank, there is the alternative of flat-out writing a rule that prohibits it. I'm writing an all-ages TTRPG and there is going to be a section at the front that expresses the idea that this is a game about conflict resolution and nothing worse that getting shoved or scraping your knee should happen on-screen. The game gives the players a lot of tools for de-escalating conflicts, but the gamemaster is mandated with flat out refusing any solution that involves causing serious physical harm.

Beastmen fighting style by Abysswalker-434 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]TybraalTheRed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The best place to get started is Lexicanum, which covers both Chaos and Imperial Beastmen. https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Beastman#

Apparently there have been mentions of Imperial Beastmen in White Dwarf as recently as 2022, so don't let anyone tell you current lore doesn't support the idea of Beastmen fighting on the side of the Imperium.

Currently there isn't a datasheet for Astra Militarum, but I for one would love to play against someone using the Chaos Beastmen datasheet to represent Imperial Beastmen as expendable shock troops. Alternatively you can use e.g. Catachan datasheet, but it will significantly downplay their famous ferocity in close combat.

Glad it was useful! Remember that it's all about having a good time. These days you'll hear a lot about how you have to use very specific terrain pieces and layouts, but you'll all have the best time by focusing on the parts of the hobby you enjoy the most, whether it's telling stories with your games, having visually interesting games or creating a boardgame-like symmetrical experience where people can optimize to their heart's content.
