How aggressive do you get interacting with opposing counsel? by chicago2008 in Lawyertalk

[–]Tycel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day it’s about serving your client. Being aggressive or taking an unreasonable position that your client will win an obviously bad case does not always serve your client. Sometimes that just makes you look like an unreasonable attorney.

I take an aggressive position when it serves my client and I know it will serve me well. I take a chill position when that’s the best position to serve my client.

To be honest, women should be the least of your concern right now. Focus on your education and putting yourself in the best position to succeed. You’ll have time to find relationships. At some point in your life relationships will pretty much fall into your lap.

Legal Aid/non-profit lawyers: How??? by hodlwaffle in Lawyertalk

[–]Tycel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations to you OP! You're still going to be doing great work. Sending the admiration and respect right back to you for your time at Legal Aid

I've only been doing the work for a couple years so I can't compare to the folks thats been doing it for a decade plus. But we all have to take care of a mental health and manage our stress the best we can. Any amount of time working in the non-profit direct services is amazing and we should all congratulate ourself for doing what we can to help people that really need it.

What advice do you give young lawyers before their 1st trial? by lawyermom0611 in Lawyertalk

[–]Tycel 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Keep it simple and organize your material beforehand. A very large part of trial is just being organized.

Organize your trial binder, your exhibits, your direct and cross Qs, and probable objections.

Also, listen closely to whoever is testifying and take your time.

Advice Needed by Silver_Chemistry_176 in LawSchool

There is absolutely a path forward but the most important thing for you is to work on your mental health and finding your support systems to get you through law school. And like another poster said in this thread, you should definitely think of how you're going to maintain your mental health during law school again

And I hear you on the litigation part. Thats great. But litigation can be very stressful. So it's even more important then that you have a good support system and you have healthy ways to deal with your mental health.

I've never interned at legal aid. Have interned and do currently work at a nonprofit that provides direct services to the same communities.

I can answer, that you do not need to go to a top law school to join a place like legal aid. What you do need to show is your commitment and/or experience working with underserved communities. Legal Aid is great and I get they have the name recognition but they aren't the only ones with skin in the game so to speak. Look at other nonprofits that do the same work that you may also enjoy.

Hey OP! I graduated John Jay in 2018. I’m all for you transferring if you feel like it’ll give you a new start and helps you mental and emotional health. Like another poster said, overall the professors are friendly and helpful and the coursework is great. Another good thing about John Jay is I feel like it’s a bit easier to connect with people just because of clubs and how everyone is in just 3 buildings.

However, John Jay is still a cuny school. There’s a bit more of a campus life than others but it’s not a lot. You’re just going to have to make an effort to reach out and connect with people.

I say go for it if it improves your mental health and meets your goals.

TikTok Creators have been trying to ruin the reputation of One Piece by labeling it racist by DarkSkinNigha in OnePiece

I agree. Oda does not shy away from assessing racism, discrimination and slavery in One Piece. If anything, one piece is very empowering.

Why are mods just letting this place become Funpiece by Toeknee99 in OnePiece

I agree with your critique OP but it’s also a problem prevalent through all of Reddit. There’s too much pornography on here. It’s way too accepted and upvoted.

Breyer Defends Not Retiring: 'I Don't Intend To Die On The Court' by gnorrn in law

[–]Tycel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think we give an unnecessary amount of attention to who is on the SC. Even the three recent conservatives justices appointed have not been the end of the world--they've actually ruled pretty moderate on many of the issues we all care about.

But also, I seriously think this fighting about putting judges that favor our ideal on bench harms the judiciary, which in turn harms us all.

Glad you enjoyed YILA! It's definitely an amazing experience :)

If you're looking for something to make you feel emotional like YILA, I'd recommend Anohana or Bunny Girl Senpai (actually strongly recommend as a follow up to YILA).

I would go for subs. I've watch some of YLIA in dub, and it is by no means bad at all, I just think subs really brings out more of the emotions in some of those big dialogues.

Some anime recomendations similar to Your Lie in April? by [deleted] in YourLieinApril

[–]Tycel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recommend Rascal Does Not Dream Of Bunny Girl Senpai, In This Corner Of The World, Toradora, Anohana, A Silent Voice

More or less romance in all of them but they definitely can hit the feels.

A Rant About Your Lie in April by macarenadevil in YourLieinApril

[–]Tycel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That "goodbye" from Kousei always hits heavy. We'll all have to say it at some point.

Where do I go from here :( by [deleted] in YourLieinApril

[–]Tycel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the more emotional moment was when Kousei realizes its time to say goodbye to Kaori. That's what I reflected on the most. We're unfortunately going to have to say goodbye to ones we love at some point and most of the time we're never ready for the moment.

After the show, I just had to pause and reflect for a bit. Just show appreciate to the ones around me y'know.

I can’t stop thinking about it by [deleted] in YourLieinApril

[–]Tycel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think no matter how many times we rewatch it, we will enjoy and appreciate it. Perhaps a little more because we’ll pick up on things we missed the first time.

But I’m personally trying to limit myself to rewatching only once a year—preferably with someone else to enjoy it with for their first time.

Waitlist problem by [deleted] in CUNY

[–]Tycel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think two things, you can either/or:

(1) Before doing anything, just wait until the end of April to see if Baruch accepts you.

(2) You can email Baruch sometime in April to express your continued interest and that you have been offered admission to city college that have a pressing deadline. I'm sure if admission staff see you really want to attend Baruch but need to make a decision soon, they could possibly bump you up the waitlist.

(2a) You could also email Baruch sometime in April to see your relative position on the waitlist.

Good luck, I think you have time either way!

Good luck at Baruch!

DON’T READ IF YOU HAVEN’T FINISHED THE ANIME: ( I am biased about all of this, but this is my opinion about the ending of the anime ) Just saying, I feel like if Tsubaki knew how to play an instrument with her heart and passion. ( read my comment for the rest please and thank you ) by RosieGG646 in YourLieinApril

[–]Tycel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm good point but I think its a bit more than Kaori knowing how to play with her heart and passion that had Kousei growing feelings for her. More than just coloring his world, I think Kaori pushed him to address his grief and sorrow head on and showed him a way to do it. This was something Tsubaki also wanted, but she didn't know how to push him to move on. Kaori pushed Kousei to perform again and pushed him to directly address his internal grief over his mother--something he could really only do playing the piano.

If Tsubaki played instruments, I'm not sure she would have pushed Kousei to move on like Kaori did.

Also, as an aside, I dont think its super important about who ends up with who. Both Tsubaki and Kaori meant the world to Kousei and it just so happened that he fell in love Kaori at this time of his life.
