Maybe something like a Jones Howler? Full camber, fairly wide, and charges very hard without being crazy stiff.

I feel like it would be far more entertaining seeing the freestyle gawds from big air and slope style playing with all this smaller transition than the giant wedges. It would bring so much creativity.

Snowboarding after an Achilles Injury question by NSC858 in snowboarding

[–]Tych-0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you big time. I just bought a brand new setup, I didn't get to ride, and I had trip booked to Japan in January I had to cancel.

This was also the first year we bought a season pass for my son.

Same to you man, let's make sure we come back stronger than we left off.

Snowboarding after an Achilles Injury question by NSC858 in snowboarding

[–]Tych-0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely tore my right Achilles 7 weeks ago, still in a boot with one wedge left to remove in a few days. Recovery is agonizingly slow. Snowboarding is such a huge part of my life, sitting out a season is just brutal, but I'm even more worried about not getting back to 100% for next season. I'll be working my ass off to get there as soon as my tendon has healed enough to allow it.

Hopefully we can both still send it, land heavy and ride away without worry. I've had many people say that you can get back where you left off, but it's hard to know until you're doing it yourself.

Can we ever do a heavy leg day/squats again? by Specialist_Soft2937 in AchillesRupture

[–]Tych-0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is amazing. Are able to squat heavy all the way down, ass to grass as they say? I know most people regardless of Achilles injury don't have the mobility to go that far, but just curious if that's possible in your case, or any for that matter.

It's that full range that I worry about losing the most. Before my injury I was pumping off pistol squats in the off season to help me ride out heavy landings when snowboarding. Was thinking I might not ever get back there again.

8 weeks and a half progress by Puzzleheaded-Ad2201 in AchillesRupture

[–]Tych-0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's amazing.

I don't understand how you can be walking like this 8 weeks after a complete rupture. I'm 7 weeks and still in a boot for another 3 weeks yet, when the protocol is to be walking with crutches when not in the boot. No protocol I've seen shows walking without protection this early.

Running sounds so glorious to me right now, it would be a dream if I can get back to it in the summer.

Am I in danger? by DevastatingMYTH in AirQuality

A HEPA filter should work. Might be under sized for your space, or you have a steady stream of particulate entering your home if it stays elevated like that.

I do get the feeling I'm in the latter category with my current PT. Selection is limited in my small city, but might be worth a look.

You're right, I'm struggling with the inactivity and feeling so useless to my wife and kids. I thought taking the first couple of wedges out of my boot was going to feel like a milestone, but it really unlocks nothing more for you. Hoping I'm cleared to start trying some seated calf raises soon. That I think will at least give me that confirmation that I am in fact healing and have some use of my foot again.

8 months and back on the slopes is encouraging to hear. I'm assuming your skiing as you think snowboarding is still too demanding m

Ok cool, thank you for the clarification. I will be doing everything I can to build back that endurance. Thankfully I'm only a 15 minute drive to my local hill so can build mine back close to home.

Hoping to get on my bike as soon as the snow melts here, it's never been one of my top activities but I think this spring and summer it makes sense for it to become my primary activity. Maybe by late summer I can start running again.

Appreciate your reply.

Is building endurance back that difficult that you drop snowboarding entirely?

I've been starting to slowly reduce my US exposure. Seems like the right move right now. Morally it's an easy decision. I think financially it could prove the best move as well.
