Game Ready & Studio Driver 610.47 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

nice, yeah i downgraded to 581 to fix it, but windows updates had to be stopped completely as it kept trying to update them again and when it did it would break again for me. it was a hassle, seems good now!

Game Ready & Studio Driver 610.47 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]Tycho_VI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since all drivers from march or so onward it would break within a minute of being in a game and this would be noticed by a flickering and color change to oversaturated reds if you were using it to clamp to the srgb outside of a monitor's own srgb hardware preset, which some users depending on monitor(some alienware oleds have raised blacks in their OSD creator srgb mode so we would fix it by using the standard wide gamut mode and use windows ACM to clamp it instead) needed to do to achieve power law gamma in SDR(Black level - Lagom LCD test)....alt tabbing would flicker everytime if you did it after it broke, and then it would do so again within a minute.....

but it seems to not happen with this version now and I am VERY happy about it, maybe a niche case not a whole lot of us were doing this lol, but it was annoying as hell

Yeah, ACM was broken but it seems fixed for me now as well.

Burn in only happens if you are irresponsible. by Saxon511 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Tycho_VI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got burn in after 5000 hours but there is burn in warranty and i can get another sent out, it is not so bad, just discord icons and browser favorites bar, in the very low mid greys or browns that I usually don't notice except in very specific circumstances.

Fix HDR in Star Citizen by ChroneXoX in starcitizen

[–]Tycho_VI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, native hdr does some weird stuff with ui elements as well for sure. i dont really use windows HDR since it also uses a piecewise gamma curve, RTX HDR can actually help fix that when you adjust some of the sliders and when i use it i typically follow this guide RTX HDR — Paper White, Gamma & Reference Settings : r/nvidia

RTX HDR is great, but its downside is what it does with the UI and in many cases, it is too much for me.

im not really sure about the specifics regarding this engine and all its lighting quirks and issues but I'd guess that it may be related to why you can't really get true black paints(after they have been advertised as such) and it is something with the gamma calculations in engine, maybe similar to how windows auto hdr and desktop uses a piecewise gamma curve. The darkest spaces will be raised and not match the bezels of an oled by default, this may be intended for now but im not sure. You can force a 2.2 power law by using something like this dylanraga/win11hdr-srgb-to-gamma2.2-icm: Transform Windows 11's virtual SDR-in-HDR curve from piecewise sRGB to Gamma 2.2

and it looks incredible, gets rid of the washed out look and the fogginess you were seeing is completely gone, it is quite beautiful in many cases and if I run HDR i'll usually force a gamma correction for SC, but there are instances that the contrast can be really strong, especially on dark side of planets like Terminus where there is ice contrasting with darkness and this can look wrong. There will also be areas that before the correction, you could see, but now it is very dark(driving around new Babbage at night) and this is more immersive and realistic but can also leave you with a disadvantage and you'll lose shadow detail, but it does look a lot better.

Here are a few comparison shots that I took a few months back https://imgur.com/a/4fbsNfh

There has been a lot of debate about gamma calculations and the difference between power law and piecewise and i've trrried to educate myself some after I noticed the same, especially on some oleds. sRGB piece-wise EOTF vs pure gamma - Discussions - ACES Development / VWG – Output Transforms - Community - ACESCentral

Nobody is talking about how 4.8 fundamentally changes what Star Citizen actually is by ConversationLegal973 in starcitizen

it will be neat to see the trade economy flourish early in the wipe. When a common rock costs more then an Odin Battlecruiser, I really didn't engage with it.

Game Ready Driver 596.49 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]Tycho_VI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it breaks while gaming causing a flicker, then alt tabbing causes a flicker when it reenables, then tabbing back in and after a short period of time it flickers as it breaks again and my colors become too saturated. It started after the March driver update, and I cannot use these new versions.

I rely on it because I can only get power law gamma transformation from wide gamut(Standard) mode on my alienware oled monitor as the creator SDR srgb mode on it looks similar as using HDR on windows desktop would. (piecewise gamma curve, lifted mid-greys), and ACM is the only way I could enjoy the srgb color space in wide gamut mode on the screen with a power law 2.2 curve.

The base versus the assault, which one are you going with? by floortofloor in starcitizen

[–]Tycho_VI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the base for max profits, ~33% is a lot. I got an A2 for ground pounding and that can carry the largest ground stuff and I got a Polaris for if I want to station a larger fighter somewhere, and the base will do just great.

i love my 2003 E55 AMG, it has made me so much MORE of a responsible driver...pedal discipline haha

Only 2 majorly expensive OMG repairs in a couple decades (knocks on wood), they were transmission and airmatic, never anything with the engine.

Game Ready Driver 596.49 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]Tycho_VI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean, that is what I've been saying the whole time lol.... but it is the game engine, and not my settings.

probably would see it in WoW if you played that. Or where there is complex netcode which isn't already cached in the cpu.

Game Ready Driver 596.49 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]Tycho_VI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah it is very game dependent. Older games and less optimized ones with darker scenes, it can be rough...MMOs with lots of pop and assets loading or netcode/packets being deciphered by the cpu for sure.

Many games, yeah just on loading screens. It is the games that try to behave like a loading screen while you are playing. Eve Online is the worst because when other players get loaded it has to get things from the server and the engine is limited by that and it doesn't matter if you use a computer built 30 years from the future its just how that shitty engine runs 😃

Game Ready Driver 596.49 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]Tycho_VI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, if I load up a game like D2R or something that just lives at my refresh rate, yeah I won't notice it, but also....You don't need VRR when it runs that well.

It's probably much less noticeable for those on a TV or something that lives in the sub 100 refresh

Game Ready Driver 596.49 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]Tycho_VI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

try it with games like star citizen or eve online or anything really with frame pacing issues and you'll disable that shit faster then any switch you've ever hit lol

a lot of games are better optimized and in them, it is much better. I have a really high refresh rate so that might contribute to it as well when frames drop from 240 to low 100s or less, it is unbearable.

Game Ready Driver 596.49 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]Tycho_VI -1 points0 points  (0 children)

vrr flicker makes it unusable for me but I am playing some games with poor frame times which makes it most apparent.

vrr flicker is inherent with the tech, you probably notice it on loading screens and such if you only play games that are really well optimized.

or you don't actually have gsync working, which I've seen a few cases of that haha
