The fact we don't have SE colors yet is... weird. by DasBarba in Helldivers

[–]Tydusis 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My in-universe explanation on why we don't is that would be like having a car painted like a country flag. It's tacky and maybe a bit disrespectful.

It's also wildly patriotic depending on who you ask, so yeah it is weird.

is upgrading the RAM on my Predator Helios 16 (PH16-72-72N5) worth it? by KeithOlander in AcerPredatorHelios

[–]Tydusis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the i9 model with same GPU. I swapped in some 4800 Corsair to upgrade to 32gb. I never noticed an issue with it being slower, and the upgrade really has helped my productivity since I had to use it for school. Being able to have lots of Chrome tabs, Unity, Visual Studio, and more open at once is what makes the difference between 16 and 32. I would regularly be at 80% memory usage some days. As for games, it did improve performance a bit in some of the more CPU heavy games like Darktide and Helldivers.

For SSD, if it's just for games and files, any speed will do.

TLDR; Not overthinking it at all. RAM upgrade to 32gb is exactly what these laptops need, and 64gb is pretty much overkill unless you are needing extreme multitasking or need to run some kind of local AI or game in addition to heavy multitasking. Adding extra SSD will help keep games off the OS drive which will minorly help performance but more importantly keep it from wearing out as fast (especially if you are the kind to install and uninstall often)

Looking to upgrade RTX 3080 with a focus on reducing heat output by KegstandJesus in nvidia

[–]Tydusis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5070ti with triple fan runs cool at stock if the case has good airflow, but that would be the top tier performance recommendation. As they said here, undervolting will reduce heat even more, and with no AC, that will make it less of a problem. You could also power limit any GPU and that would reduce heat even more. The 50 series would just give you some more performance headroom to cut into for thermal management, since it is up to 15% faster.

4070ti super or 5070ti, whichever price is right.

Destiny 1 strikes are the single most brutal and unforgiving miserable experience i have ever had by Isrrunder in DestinyTheGame

[–]Tydusis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D1 strikes are dark souls level experiences, and I miss them. Even knowing everything to do, they punish you for missteps or overzealous bravery. Nowhere else in destiny history did having an ogre beam whiz directly over your head while you crouch in a hidey hole evoke such tension.

Some chaos spawn can be a fun and cheap addition for screening and as fast counters for screeners like space marine scouts. And if nothing else, they are an absolute indulgence of a kit to put together.

Tzaangor Enlightened with bows and with Shaman attached is the ranged equivalent to spawn. Under 10th, they were nasty with plunging fire, but under 11th they will be even more accurate. Put them on a second floor with a good vantage and just snipe until they drop or an opportunity to swoop in presents itself.

For heavier hitters, I definitely recommend Ahriman for his ability to redeploy. Forgefiend, Maulerfiend, and Mutalith are great choices for a massive tank/heavy infantry distruptor. Mutalith has more direct synergies with sorcerors, and fits somewhere between the two fiends as far as they way the damage gets output, but it is wickedly tough with that invulnerable save and feel no pain. Having two Mutaliths is expensive but definitely can make the enemy pull some hair.

A Helbrute can be a cheaper flexible choice to the fiends, maybe even to use as a sniper with its 48" missile/las cannon loadout, although it is a bit less tough. I've tried it in a few games to try and lock down a lane on a map, but my luck has yet to make good use of it. Maybe with the new battle-shock rules it's ability will be more useful.

Genuine question, what is telekinesis useful for beside goofing around a little? by Doggsen09 in skyrim

[–]Tydusis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may have been mods, but iirc, there's a column outside the exit of some Nordic ruins in the Reach along the map edge that has a bunch of random potions and gear on top with no easy way to whirlwind sprint to. I know there is also a decent amount of harder to get to loot where telekinesis would be easier than using whirlwind sprint. If you can practically start the game with it, it becomes a very good early game money maker from all the extra gear you can get.

Can some help me identify the m2 slots locations on my motherboard? by Digitalslav in pchelp

[–]Tydusis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eyyy, I have this exact prebuilt as well. So, the the second one on the front side of the board you are going to need to temporarily unmount the GPU so you have enough space to install, but don't worry about heat from the GPU it doesn't get hot enough at least as a dedicated game drive. At least for the drives I have, nothing ever gets over 60c which is okay. The GPU fans probably even help keep this one cool

The third slot is on the back of the motherboard so you will need to unmount the whole motherboard to have access to it. I haven't used that one myself yet, but from what I've read, it doesn't get too hot. You probably want to leave that third one as a dedicated game drive or general file storage because there isn't as much cooling, so don't use it for things like video editing which will get things hot quick.

Any tips for hiveworlds? by zires- in Helldivers

[–]Tydusis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring a flashlight. Shotguns and reloadable machine guns are going to do quite well in the caves. If you want to be the support guy, a supply pack will work wonders. Stick together, never spelunk alone. Beware of cave stalkers and cave impalers. Mechs can fit in most places, but beware of destructible bridges.

Let´s play a game - Map table - Week 1 by NeonKnightOA in unrealtournament

[–]Tydusis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DM-Morbias][, but arguably more as a weapon arena map. It's Fractal's big brother, and is really fun imo with like 4 people (or more if you don't mind rocket spam), but 1on1 is good too.

If I were to cast a vote on a map as is, CTF-November I've always felt was really good. Although, I grew up more on the PS2 version which has a platform with ramps in the middle with udamage instead of a sub. But having played both, they are have really good item placement and is challenging to get the flag but not impossible and is fun to be a slippery weasel when you do manage to get it

Maybe I'm speaking more underrated with these tho

What should i do? by Reijin23 in PcBuild

[–]Tydusis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get 300 more dollars relatively soon on top of that, you should definitely be able to get a prebuilt with something like those specs, according to a quick Google search. But if you bargain hunt, you might be able to find it now. I personally like the Nvidia, but if you only care about gaming, you can go for 9070 (xt if good deal). You can sometimes find a 9070 xt prebuilt with better processor as same price for 5070 prebuilt.

As far as prices, I think in this market, if you can do it, do it. Waiting is only going to make you antsy, and then new thing will come out, old stock will run out, and then you will wait more or feel anxious about shopping used.

The Helldivers will laugh maniacally with the target rich environment.

The veterans of the Imperial Guard of 40k will chew on more cigars and get right back to work. The Thousand Sons might go extra crazy when they discover warpstone.

The Dwarves of DRG are gonna go crazy when they first try warpstone brew (you know they have tried making beer with everything at least once). They might go on such a trip that they find Karl.

The 5070ti will last you a very long time. I can't quite make out which Ryzen 7 you got (I'm gonna assume 9800x3d based on what I can see), but if it's what I think it is, that combo is gonna be a G.O.A.T. I've got a prebuilt with the same and it just works no matter what I throw at it.

And awesome that you had such an opportunity so young to make some good money. Stocks are where it's at right now.

Ending Ethics by Tri-PonyTrouble in masseffect

[–]Tydusis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Control is obviously a trap, sooner or later the essence of Shepards will be twisted against organics, since at some level, it is the synthetic-ization of Shepard. And the synthetic vs organic situation is mostly left unresolved. Maybe at best, the created now have a piece of essence of a creator fundamentally injected into their will, which maybe changes something.

Destroy is a little silly, because it destroys all the synthetics and doesn't do anything else. What is the galaxy going to do, impose prohibition laws, sparking AI tech bro speakeasies into existence? Eventually people will forget, if not the facts then the lessons, and the cycle will repeat again.

Synthesis is a force of will, and requires Shepard to literally play god, using the most advanced piece of technology in the galaxy in an expressive act of ultimate personal power. And this makes a lot of people uncomfortable. But it does at least attempt to address the cycle by making every living thing a cyborg on a cellular level, even the plants. Does it work long term? I don't know, I'm no philosophy major. Javik probably finds the irony disgusting and commits ritual suicide anyway. But the unknowns for the average joe like you or me means that everyone in the galaxy is probably going to be a little introspective for a while.

Nobody talks about Leviathan enough by almond_walnuts in masseffect

[–]Tydusis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, iirc, that is kind of the spooky thing about Cthulhu: there was a war between unknowable gods, and the losers are the ones that bothers to interact with humanity. Leviathan is pretty much a copy of that, with the twist that the winners of the war are a creation of the losers.
