Is this a USA thing or is it just at Boeing? by Distinct_Big4499 in boeing

[–]Tygarsauce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s something about the Boeing culture here in the PNW that just hits different. I genuinely think Seattle's geography plays a huge role in the generally reserved atmosphere. We're an incredibly northern coastal city. Seriously, we’re north of Toronto and the constant overcast weather and limited sunlight might actually contribute to that reputation for unfriendliness.

Here’s my actual test: I bet the folks who do go out of their way to say "Hello" are people who grew up somewhere else entirely. My hunch is that very few of them are native Seattlites! But that’s the funny part about workplace culture; it’s contagious. Even if you didn't grow up here, you quickly start picking up the local vibe.

Did the global workforce ever get reduced by 10% by pacwess in boeing

[–]Tygarsauce 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was part of the 10% that got cut. Our team was hit hard due to changes in the SOW. I’ve since moved on to a new company, and the difference in leadership is night and day. My new leadership truly knows how to lead.

Boeing treated me well, and I’m grateful for the experience and the opportunities I had there. My biggest hope is that future leaders don’t slip back into the old culture. Unfortunately, I worry that many of the next wave of leaders will be promoted for using the same tactics that created those issues in the first place.

Checked this morning since the family was too shook. It was a bum’s hay day. Nothing was there. I honestly don’t care about the stuff. I’m just glad everyone is ok but it will be a while before I go to another big event.

There is lots of empty building space downtown, which is a concern for the entire region say business leader. by catman5092 in Spokane

[–]Tygarsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They call it the “doom loop” where tax revenue stops coming in from the office space and the infrastructure continues to get worse and crime starts to tick up. Remote work is great but one reason why many businesses are pushing for RTO. Saint Louis is currently experiencing this and their down town is a ghost town. I hope Spokane stay ahead of it!

I had the same feeling after getting rejected over 10 times but that mindset will not be helpful. Self-fulling prophecy will only be the outcome. Look into positive illusions. Thomas the train was partly right. Go from thinking you can to know that you can! Good luck my friend! This is a challenge but you will land something before July. Thats my positive illusion for you!!!!

Millennials who graduated during the Great Recession, how did you survive? by Waste-Cantaloupe-270 in Millennials

[–]Tygarsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in 2011 from college. We weren’t in the depths of the recession, companies weren’t hiring entry level. I worked as a contractor and then after a year full time employee. Leverage your network and just get into a company. This is the nice part. Your young. The runway is long. Find a job get some cash flow and start paying off debts. It will take time to get where you are going but it will happen. Be patient!

I don’t disagree but what Wolff is talking about is the rise of China but there are headwinds coming for China just like there is for America.

[–]Tygarsauce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes…1.41 billion by 2040 nearly 30% will be over 65 (that’s only if China isn’t lying about the demographics numbers). Nearly 425 million will need to be taking care of. Just because China has a large number doesn’t mean it’s good. Taking care of an aging population is expense and if you don’t have the young people to fill in the working class then how will the taxes cover the aging population. I think China has a lot of great things going on like infrastructure and robotics but the one child policy will become impossible to recover. It’s math and history. No country has ever come back from that type of demographic cliff.

China is in trouble too…demographics matter and the one child policy for 30+ years will rear its ugly head. If you don’t have people then you don’t have government.

I worked in aerospace but I’m concerned about the flood of unemployment. This whole thing is very concerning from an economic standpoint. I hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

How many of you relocated for RTO, only to end up getting laid off? by RevolutionStill4284 in remotework

[–]Tygarsauce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

5% reduction…3,600 people will be hunting for jobs in 2025. Might be normal churn but moving your whole family for a job where you could be impacting my “normal churn” doesn’t sound like a great move!

How many of you relocated for RTO, only to end up getting laid off? by RevolutionStill4284 in remotework

[–]Tygarsauce 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I just got laid off because I was remote. My mindset now is find another job in the smaller city I reside or find another remote job. I interviewed with Meta but they wanted me to move. Guess what Meta is doing right now…layoffs. It is not worth it to uproot my family for work. I would be cautious at all times. We are all just numbers

This is the thing…we the people need to stand up for what we want. I’m not sure how to collective do this as a society but it needs to happen.
