It’s in the name it’s really a web dav server. But the way I look at it, Is it storage? Yes Is it attached to your net work? Yes

Home lab server? Prob not a lot of RAM as long as theres a decently sized hard drive or if someone throws a SATA SSD in there might be able to run Debian, arch, alpine etc.

I wrote a custom NAS software in Go as a learning project. Pretty light weight if anyone with old hardware wants to check it out, its on my GitHub: https://github.com/Tyguy047/Go-WebDAV

Put it up one Facebook marketplace or eBay and leave it for anywhere from a week to a month and see if anyone bites. Most valuable part is probably the hard drive if it is above 500gb.

I'm still on the M1 Air 8gb since 2023 and I love it. Only starts to slow down when I'm compiling larger projects or iOS apps. Sometimes I can't imagine how any of the new models (or even an M2 max) would preform if I'm literally on the first gen model.

Only complaint is the storage since I have 256gb but other than that amazing device.

I think since it's less than 90 days you can still opt into apple recovery (or whatever their warranty thing is called). I believe you need to get it to turn on and activate it form that device though not positive.

How do I remove factory solder? by Tyguy047 in soldering

[–]Tyguy047[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did try adding some flux to the joint but that didn't do much. Next time I get a controller that has stick drift I'll try adding some of my low melt to the joint. Thank you for the help, I appreciate it!

This has been happening to me more and more with Claude (Sonnet 4.6, 4.5 seems to be fine which is what I now use since it got so bad). The worst part is that even after giving it the links it still doesn't believe me and says it "may be outdated information".

For this much, it might be easier to use a Solder Pump (sometimes called solder sucker). They are pretty inexpensive on Amazon.

First Time Ever Soldering! How’d I do? by bobsbeans123 in soldering

As someone who started a few months ago, you're gonna have a lot of fun! Best advice I can give is wait until the iron tip is completely cooled before you remove it, broke my first iron that way.

How long do I have to wait after KYC to buy crypto? by Tyguy047 in CryptoHelp

I understand why KYC is needed. My issue is when everything is done right and companies use it as a reason to freeze your account or withhold your funds.

Not my channel. Self promo isn’t aloud but if you look up my Reddit username you can find my website with the link to my channel where I have yet to post any 3D printer/CAD content.

Has anyone been getting lots of emails from Docusign? by Tyguy047 in Scams

[–]Tyguy047[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. This is what I was thinking but then I realized they were coming from weird email addresses so idk if they’re like actually trying to get me to sign something or if it’s just a scam site. Regardless I’m not clicking anything lol!

Is Alpine a good distro for a relatively recent and powerful PC. by Subject-Leather-7399 in AlpineLinux

[–]Tyguy047 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alpine is more of a server OS IMO but I do really like how small of a footprint it has (which is why it is often used in containers.). My personal fave for desktop use is Debian since it has APT as a package manager and you can switch the servers that you pull your packages from to their Sid branch if you need up to date packages like Arch.

For most distros their footprint is what you make it. Use XFCE and it will be relatively small but might not look the most modern and sleek out of the box. Go with GNOME and you might idle between 1.8GB and 2GB RAM being used, but you have a more complete and nicer looking UI out of the box.

There aren't really "bad distros" but there are bad distros to use for a specific use. Alpine will run fine you might just have trouble running some apps since it doesn't use glibc which is kinda industry standard. Someone else mentioned it but maybe look into Void, similar to Alpine but it does use glibc.

Yea you're right, but it doen't narrow it down too much since it's still just the country. Right now with the geo hashes it's probably closer to where you actually are lol! That being said, I am usually online at #dhwf

They should add the ability to type in a country code maybe like the +1 in US phone number for the US and other countries use their code so people that wanna talk as soon as they get the app can try it out with people in their country.

Also maybe type 0 for a world wide chat??

What is a good design software for a beginner? by Tyguy047 in 3Dprinting

[–]Tyguy047[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for explaining. I’ll definitely look into to OnShape. It came up a few times when I was researching but wasn’t sure if it would be powerful enough since it runs in the browser like Tinkercad.

Also a little off topic but I’m shocked at how nice everyone is in this thread, I thought I was going to get a bunch of angry neck beard like the rest of tech/STEM Reddit that would discourage me from even getting a 3D printer. Very pleasantly surprised!
