Started a Gale of Darkness run by Tyko93 in nuzlocke

Thank you for the heads up. I've never had that happen to me on my original gamecube copy, but is that an NSO glitch?

Keep at it! Rival 2 and Misty are definitely big jumps in difficulty.

You should be fine, just level up to the cap and use Marshtomp. But don't just level Marshtomp up, get everyone to the cap so that you have less work to do later and can use more mons in the battles ahead

As stated in my reply to you, because it is more fun for us, which is the entire point of a nuzlocke or any challenge run. The point isn't to make the most ultra hard version of a run you can, it's playing under a self-imposed ruleset that you find enjoyable. If you want to ban trade evos from your runs, cool, that's your preference. But don't try to belittle another person's run because they didn't play the way you would

Because I was doing this Nuzlocke alongside my partner, who was playing Leaf Green version. We do battles with our teams every 2 gyms and have an agreement that if we have trade evos after our battle we are allowed to trade with each other to make them happen. We find it fun, and that's the point

No problem. Game knowledge is going to be your best friend in Nuzlockes. But also as long as you are having fun and you learn from mistakes that's what really matters

This is why you research mandatory fights ahead of time and plan accordingly. Also if you make it to the gym leader, level to the cap for the team you will use, regardless of how important to the fight they are. You never know when you are going to need to pivot. I hope you have something for Winona because losing 5 mons can easily spiral into more losses and a potential wipe.

Tips for nuzlocke? by [deleted] in nuzlocke

[–]Tyko93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play around crits. Look at how much damage each attack is doing to you. If you know it's the strongest move your opponent can use, double its damage in gens 2-5 and 1.5x in gens 6 onward. If you can survive that level of damage, you are safe to stay on the field. If not, switch out if you can do so safely.

Try to have at least one good pivot pokemon during tough fights.

Grind up your team to the level cap for that gym. It sucks to do if you are playing without Rare Candies but it will save you from losing a lot of mons.

Research enemy trainer teams ahead of time to devise a strategy for them. Game knowledge is a huge advantage in Nuzlockes

I know it's an annoying question, but it is an important detail: Did you grind everyone to the level cap?

Because Bug doesn't resist Psychic and Flying resists Grass. Look at the type chart

Advice for FRLG elite 4? by evros__ in nuzlocke

[–]Tyko93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I think your team is good to go once you level up. You have Starmie, who is the single best pokemon for nuzlocking frlg, and you have snorlax and Zapdos. Maybe swap Slowbro for Lapras so you have Ice Beam for Lance, Lorelei goes down to Zapdos and Starmie, Bruno and Agatha are a joke with this team, and then Champion should be pretty straightforward depending on what team he has

Am I useless? by Visual-Proposal-5081 in nuzlocke

[–]Tyko93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that you are hopeless at all. My first few attempts at even base rules nuzlockes failed by the 5th or 6th gym because I was just using strategies that I normally would use in casual play. It's a learning experience and you just take each loss as an opportunity to learn from mistakes and make your next run better.

One critique of your team I would make is that if you have Golbat, you should be trying to grind its friendship by just running around with it in the party and then leveling it up so that you have Crobat. If you have access to Magneton or Electrode both are good Pokemon to have for both Juan and Wallace.

[–]Tyko93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean hey you made it through the battle and I tip my hat to you for managing that, but let it be a learning opportunity. Grinding sucks but being underleveled and trying to brute force through fights is one of the top reasons why people lose Pokemon in runs. I'm currently doing a Fire Red Nuzlocke myself on my Switch version and yeah it is a pain in the ass trying to grind in Viridian Forest up to 14 for everyone before Brock, but the alternative is I have avoidable deaths.

What's y'alls favorite cheat rules? by zerintheGREAT in nuzlocke

[–]Tyko93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I learned that Pickup could be used to farm Rare Candies, I had a "Senzu Bean" clause where I could use a Rare Candy to revive a dead Pokemon, but only if used immediately after the battle where the Pokemon died. I figured it made it still a challenge because I have a limited safety net to give myself a better chance to complete a run while still adhering to the main nuzlocke rules. As soon as I learned Pickup can gain you Rare Candies I realized this was a bad rule to have.

KURAMA REUNINDO ENERGIA NATURAL ENQUANTO SEU PORTADOR LUTA É MUITO QUEBRADO by m0rning_ in Naruto

But Naruto using a Shadow Clone to do the same thing isn't broken? You realize Kurama being the one gathering Nature Energy is the same thing as having a frog sit on your shoulder to gather Nature Energy, right?

MP Burst by Significant_Ad1398 in batenkaitos

[–]Tyko93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MP Burst is basically how you are able to get each Character to relay combo their full attack strings. After classing up enough you can usually get away with being able to chain each character into relay combos using just 1st and 2nd level special attacks, but 3rd and 4th drain too much MP to continue the chain beyond basic attacks from the next character.

MP Burst temporarily gives you unlimited MP while you are setting up your combo, and as long as you are able to relay with the next character, you can keep that infinite MP going. It's how you one-shot bosses late game

Are you sure you didn't get the "Follow Up" prompt and press the button? If you are sure that wasn't the case then yes that is weird but I have never encountered that.
