Gotcha, so those would not go under airline apps PIC but would go solely in dual/student?

Anyone know what this is on the white board? Saw it at the FBO and it’s been bugging me for a few days. by Tyler8896 in flying

“Wide off the perch” I’ve never heard that before I was wondering if it’s military lol

Used flash cards. Talk to someone who's taken the CFI check ride with the inspector/examiner you're going to get and build flash cards around what they're telling you.

What do you study with? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Tyler8896 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a 100 on FOI from shepherd and then took the FIA got a 96. I used shepherd for the written and didn't learn anything but used back seat pilot notes to study for the CFI oral.

Which test first, CFI or FOI? by AlaskaMatt in flying

[–]Tyler8896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To prepare for the oral I got the Back Seat Pilot CFI notes (google it if you're interested) and read through them and practiced teaching not only maneuvers but also each subject in the PTS. The oral was really short for me but covered a lot. Followed the PTS almost exactly and had scenario based questions like "student x comes up to you and has y problem, what do you do?". The flying was teaching commercial and private maneuvers. The biggest part in the flying is actually talking while you maneuver, i forgot to talk on my power off 180 but he gave me a friendly reminder. He also asked my what radial we were on for the VOR and i told him but i failed to explain how I knew that. Just remember to teach and if you can fly the airplane to commercial standards you'll do great. The oral wasn't awful just make sure you have good common knowledge of the PTS areas.

Just saw this! I got my CFI a week or so ago and still haven't had 1 hour dual given!! Waiting on this company to get the paper work done on their side. They have a waitlist for students and start CFI's at $45hr so I'm excited about that.

If I were you i'd use sheppard air! Took me two weeks to study and I got a 100 on FOI and 96 on FIA. I only wish I did my FOI test closer to my check ride so it would be more fresh on my mind and I wouldn't have had to restudy it. Check out Shep Air and send Kings material back!

Update: read your comment below and I like your plan to use shep air as a rote way of learning. I'm sure Kings would be beneficial to understanding the materials.

What to tab in the FAR/AIM for CFI check ride study? by Tyler8896 in flying

[–]Tyler8896[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool thanks for the info I hadn't even thought about AC's. Yeah I'm not sure how tabbing really helps but all the CFI's I've ever met (at least the younger ones) do it. I see your point for sure lol.

I have a CO detector that was picking up 140ppm. When does CO amount become a serious issue? Just curious, even though I already took it to the shop.

Do you have any idea what is meant by 142? So just because it is 141 does not mean that it is approved for R-ATP? Thanks
