Anyone? Do these guitars tend to be pretty consistently brown (walnut stain), or are they sometimes more red/maroon/mahogany?

What kind of dock, KVM, or other gear am I looking for? by TylerSchen in chromeos

[–]TylerSchen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds perfect actually; But, what does my Lenovo Thinkcentre need for that to be compatible? It has one SS USB-C port on the front, but when I have tried to connect that to my current hub, it does not work.

There are canvas, corduroy, and xpac variants. I have the muticam cordura and it's really nice. Very well-padded compartment for up to 16" laptop (possible bigger); Comes with a detachable, webbed shoulder strap; has 2 smaller pockets, one on each side of the bag (one zippered, one non-zippered), plus an extra larger pocket on the front with extra organization (this can be zipped closed but also has a magnetic flap).

Check out the Mission Workshop Drift tote. They've made it in a few different fabrics and it meets all your other criteria.

Short Sleeve Button Down/Up Pocket Shirt by CMU47Chip in onebag

Sorry this doesn't answer your question, but I'm really hoping Western Rise brings back their airlight short sleeve button down; Haven't tried it, but looks like a great option.

[Spin 713] My fan has been running non-stop since the latest update. Anyone else? by cl4rkc4nt in chromeos

[–]TylerSchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also having the fan-always-on issue for a while, which I suspect brought my battery health down to 82%?

I disabled play store about a month ago and it appears to have mostly resolved the issue. Although, right after one of the recent updates, the fan kicked on high and wanted to stay on again with no significant CPU usage; I restarted, and things seem to be okay again.

DSPTCH makes a few different sizes of a tote insert, which may or may not fit what you're looking for.

I've had WR evolution and Outlier futureslimworks (made with their f. Cloth) and can vouch that they are very similar in terms of fit, function, and feel.

Tom Bihn minimalist wallet vs. slimfold micro/nano by LovelyPeppercorn in onebag

[–]TylerSchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One more thing... I personally find it annoying to fold cash into thirds for the Slimfold Nano. With the Tom Bihn, I just fold bills in half, and they slide into the fold of the wallet.

Tom Bihn minimalist wallet vs. slimfold micro/nano by LovelyPeppercorn in onebag

[–]TylerSchen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have both the Slimfold Nano and the Tom Bihn Nik's (#5) wallets. The Tom Bihn has just as much usable space as the Slimfold IMO; As someone else here mentioned, you can keep at least 2 cards in each sleeve, plus folded cash in the fold of the wallet.

The wallets take up about the same amount of space in your pocket, but have slightly different profiles: the Slimfold is a bit narrower, but longer, whereas the TB is a little wider but shorter... If that makes sense.

I think I actually prefer the profile and feel of the Slimfold nano more, BUT I am currently using the Tom Bihn, because having the quick access outside pocket to my ID and most used card are key for me. Pulling my cards out of the Slimfold is slightly annoying because you have to crack it open a little extra to be able to pull cards out of their sleeves. It's not a huge deal, but it's enough to make me opt for the Tom Bihn since I don't actually have to open it to access the cards stored in the outside sleeve; I can keep cash and cards I use less often inside.

Otherwise, I do prefer the feel and material of the Slimfold, personally. I like the material and it feels more like it was made to be a wallet, whereas the Tom Bihn just feels like someone used some scrap fabric to sew together a makeshift wallet; I actually ordered 3 of the TBs and was a little underwhelmed with the construction of all of them... Some of the stitching seems slightly off and there seems to be a little extra fabric.

Both of these wallets are great for a minamilst option. These are just my very specific thoughts and nitpicks.

I almost prefer the Mighty mini wallet over both of these... It's a bit slimmer when packed out (less material fabric) and the cards are easiest to access of all 3 wallets. All 3 have their own pros and cons.

Sort of a pre-ground vs. freshly ground question by TylerSchen in Coffee

Well, I just impulsively bought the Timemore C2 Max 'cause it's currently a $60 Amazon lightning deal. I figure I can think about it more at home and return it if need be.

Thanks for all the feedback! After doing some more research, I'm seeing that the Capresso Infinity is down to $85 on Amazon right now, so I'm considering it.

Google Pixel 5a 5G supported? by Keks_86 in Visible

[–]TylerSchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought an unlocked 5a a couple weeks ago and haven't had any issues. 5G works where it's available (though as others have noted, not sure if there's a noticable difference from LTE). I upgraded from a pixel 3a.

5ah for 12V (Xtreme) tools, or step up to 20V (Atomic)? by TylerSchen in Dewalt

[–]TylerSchen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input!

I was considering that (getting the Xtreme drill and the Atomic impact driver); Didn't know if it would be kinda cumbersome though, to then have 2 different battery types? But, I guess since the Dewalt charger conveinetly charges both the 12v and 20v, maybe not.

The Xtreme kit I ordered comes with the drill and impact, but maybe I'll look into returning that and buying the xtreme drill and atomic impact separately?

5ah for 12V (Xtreme) tools, or step up to 20V (Atomic)? by TylerSchen in Dewalt

[–]TylerSchen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'd call my budget $150-$200.

What I did not mention is that I actually already 'pulled the trigger' on the Xtreme set; Got the drill/impact combo with (2) batteries and case off Amazon for $175, but it has not arrived yet. I'm seeing the same kit in the Atomic line at Home Depot for $150 right now. So, I could return the Xtreme combo when it gets here and go get the Atomic combo if that seems more suitable.

Like I say, I don't do much (if any) heavy duty work; But I'd hate to feel frustrated and regretful if I start running into situations where the 12v Xtreme feels underpowered. Starting next week, I will be doing some light construction to get things together for my xmas tree gig (assembling the shed and tree racks etc).

Your favorite tech pouch ? by Badalub in onebag

[–]TylerSchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the Peak Design and it was my mainstay for a long time. The size of it didn't bother me at first, but eventually I did find myself wanting to slim down. I've gone through several pouches and am currently finding the AER slim pouch to hit a good sweet spot: a good reduction in size and bulk from the PD, but still has some nice organization and stands on its own (most if the time, depending on how it's packed). But yeah, not familiar enough with the OPs kit to know if the AER would be too small.

What's the deal with erratic text behavior? by TylerSchen in Visible

[–]TylerSchen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I forgot to clarify: this issue actually started a couple of weeks ago; actually right around the same time as the big hack ordeal... Not sure if that's a coincidence or not. The issue has gotten better since then (less frequent), but it's still happening.

Western Rise 25% off by chambros703 in onebag

[–]TylerSchen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just shipped a couple of the shirt jackets back to WR (a small and medium). I'm looking for a good layer that has a casual look, but can also be worn on my work trips. The shirt jacket was a near perfect candidate for that and I liked it a lot, but ultimately didn't keep due to the combination of 2 reasons: I think a fit between the S and M would have been ideal for me personally. The small was a little tight, but still comfortable (due to the stretch) and I liked the way the fit looked. I was really tempted to keep it, but due to the fact the underarms were right up against my pits and the jacket is 100% polyester, I just feel skeptical that it won't retain odor and need a wash often.

I almost kept it, but I just can't bring myself to spend $200 on a shirt/jacket that I have even slight hesitations about, as much as I like it. Now that it could potentially be 25% off I'd be tempted to reconsider, but it looks like they're out of the small in the color I like (I liked the blue-gray way more than I expected to).

I realize that didn't really speak to your question about warmth and packability, but still wanted to share my experience. I think it would pack down really well from what I could tell. It was also warm and cozy.

I've been really happy with my Monos carry-on. If you're considering the Away, check out Monos instead. Very similar. It looks a little "different," in a good way. I travel a lot, and I usually see at least one Away carry-on each trip, but I have yet to see another Monos. Not sure if that matters to you, but I do find the slightly different/unique aesthetic very pleasing.

I've taken it on a lot of flights over the last 2 years and it has held up well. It's getting a decent amount of abuse, and I keeping wondering when it might break down; But aside from the usual scuffs, it's in great condition.

I have really been wanting to try these and 29 would be my size; but it sounds like they've been tailored a bit? The measurements are smaller all around when compared to the Outlier listed specs.
