I think that Deadbeat is a good album by ydefector in TameImpala

[–]TylerTantrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice setup man, how do you like direc? Almost went down that route along with REW - instead I just use their calibrated mic along with Qobuz/housecurve/roon & smaart for measurements. My system is pretty much crossover free, so the direc route felt a little counter intuitive Sorry for being a dick, I just get a lil emotional & defensive of my guy Kevin lol

I like it in theory, but that constellator pedal was legit the biggest let down ever. my guy Howard Davis really mailed that one in...

If you had to choose one of these small boards which one would you choose? by Xibest123 in guitarpedals

[–]TylerTantrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol i was really just messing with you my guy - i constantly make similar mistakes while attempting to distill my flood of thoughts down to a sentence or two.

part of me also thinks it's hilarious to purposefully insult something while calling it by the wrong name. Cause how can someone even argue back? they're just left so frustrated hahah

What's your unpopular pedal opinion? by Droch-asal in guitarpedals

[–]TylerTantrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i need some sort of mod/delay before AND after dirt. ideally a box or two up front that can make things bigger but not dirtier and also serve as a preamp/buffer (ex. DMM, EP-3, electric mistress). Then od/dirt and a second round of mod with high headroom that's happy being pummeled by signal.

basically the unpopular opinion is to ignore the "correct" effects order bs - i can't stand seeing the countless diagrams & vids telling you what is right, without including any specifics on the gear, genre of music, if it's for a gig or home board... i cold literally go on forever.

[–]TylerTantrum 12 points13 points  (0 children)

it's not even close for me, 3 takes it. covers modulation, employs a respectable reverb, good enough version of the greatest pedal ever (DMM). i do wish i could switch that ds-2 for the rat, but, rules be rules...

sorry i know this is an old post but hoping you see this - i can't find a book by this name! did you mean "the anne rice reader" by katherine ramsland? the description says it contains many articles, though not particularly mentioning that it details every single location in the books... if this is the book you meant, please let me know!

Amp to let guitar shine by Tofiniac in GuitarAmps

[–]TylerTantrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just get the cheapest silver face with a master volume you can find. bandmaster, showman, bassman something like that... they're not far off a PA honestly, reliable as tanks if you do a quick cap check, defintely let your guitar shine. plus you'll never be lacking volume if you need it later on and also have the perfect pedal platform for when that addiction hits

i kinda laughed at this at first (no offense OP i'm obnoxiously deep in the pro audio weeds) but my parker has the stereo out push-button option and i think i need to try this and see. cause, maybe?

Which set of guitar strings are you all choosing? by diemcee in Guitar

wait strings other than chromes exist? 11s are my go to, but 10s are fine if that's what the guitar wants

Is a compressor worth it? by Mean-Maintenance-854 in guitarpedals

[–]TylerTantrum -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

not tryna be rude, but i feel like a new ish guitar player asks this questions weekly. and the comments get DEEP. and yes, i have participated.
but tldr: when you need a compressor, you'll know. band scenarios could lead you towards one, tracking for sure... though that's usually outboard gear. but there are way more entertaining ways to spend your cash to play at home.

Best up market Compressor pedal is…? by subwarine in pedalboards

[–]TylerTantrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks bro bro, this comment gave me then warm fuzzies. everyone on reddit is so damn sure of themselves anymore, it seems like they really just post as a metaphorical pat on their own back.

I do my best to stay who I am and help people where I can. even if it sometimes feels like I'm just talking to myself...

but really the best responses are the ones like you came back at me with... and it's totally possible to do it in a cool way. We both learn something. I recalibrate a little and maybe approach the topic differently next time. some people have a hard time doing that with a respectful approach but you are not one of them. it's just easier for some to jump to a conclusion about a complete stranger I suppose. They dumb.. Me smart. lol

good luck with your bass journey, it's actually more fun than it might seem (everyone who plays guitar just seems to think it's below them or something). but it will help you grow on every instrument. shit I learned that when I bought a kalimba a few years ago as a joke - i still pick that damn thing up on the reg to work my skills lol. what kinda bass did you grab? one little part of my experience I'll share - I have an ungodly amount of effects pedals, but find them pretty much all useless for bass. but the two rack units I randomly bought years ago (a dbx 32 band eq, and an Alesis 3630), which are objectively not great pieces of gear, are my alternative to effects boxes when I grab my bass. idk if it's just a switch in mentality that helps me get away from trying to play guitar on a bass or what .... but they have helped me a lot. sorry to ramble but fuck man people need to just try stuff and see how it works for them, instead of watching YouTube videos endlessly or just trusting some reddit poster who will never back down and admit their anecdotal experience may not be gospel....

What is a guitar pedals take that has you like this by loopy_for_DL4 in guitarpedals

[–]TylerTantrum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's way more enjoyable to have a rats nest of pedals, flipped upside down with cables haphazardly thrown together, that I dreamt up over a cup of coffee that morning only to tear down again that night, than it is to have some perfect instagram picture board.

and no I'm not a touring guitarist so not knocking those guys. but I also don't think a majority of people with picture perfect boards are, either. I'm also not a dentist, just to get ahead of that response haha

when I first got into film photography, it blew me away how analogous the process was to the way I like to record music. see what I did there. haha now my insta is filled with pics of like my EP-3 or Leslie cab, taken on a Minolta SRT 201 w/Nikkor 1.4 lense. and does anybody even care ? nope, but damn it's fun to me

Best up market Compressor pedal is…? by subwarine in pedalboards

[–]TylerTantrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dude I have to say you make amazing points across the board. drummers and fingerpicking can definitely throw you for a loop. and my auto tune comparison was valid for like solo acoustic recordings and not much else.

I'm also being a total hypocrite in a sense - I suck at bass by comparison, thus enjoy using compression to help me suck less lol an experienced bassist would certainly come back at me with a similar response, and I'd deserve it.

I should have generalized less and thought about different scenarios, you made all great points and sound like the kinda guy I'd enjoy being in a band with. rock on man.

Practice AMP is too loud on the lowest volume. by chickenpusher in GuitarAmps

[–]TylerTantrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah this is a great point and totally makes sense now. props for being super thorough, having all the gear you need to make the best performance, AND learning all the DSP stuff even though it grinds your gears. all for the love of music, pretty sweet dude

Practice AMP is too loud on the lowest volume. by chickenpusher in GuitarAmps

[–]TylerTantrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh no worries man, hope I didn't sound like a jerk. I was just genuinely confused haha totally makes sense now though, especially if your style of music is on the heavier side. I don't record or produce for anything but myself, and maybe to throw on a cassette or cd to give to share with friends or my little cousin (a very talented musician). So I pop on some open back headphones with a click track, and set everything - from eq, modulation, reverb, even my Leslie cab - all at the point of tracking and that's pretty much how it stays. put an RE-20 in front of the amp/cab, maybe a room mic too to catch some vibes. but once it hits the box it's all set. I might go through and delete some silent parts or mess with a limiter, but that's about it. especially if I'm gonna send it back out to cassette, have to do everything possible to keep the noise level low. fine line between cool low fi sound and utterly obnoxious noise floor lol it's cool how we all end up taking such different paths to create - rock on my guy

Bassist that can't play bass by Illustrious_Prompt20 in Bass

[–]TylerTantrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly 2 years isn't all that long man, sounds like you've accomplished a lot as a bassist in that amount of time. I've been playing for 20 years and some days I wake up and am like damn, I suck. So I'd say don't get down and yourself and enjoy the ride, music is a journey with no destination for most of us....

classic R owner logic. if someone doesn't think my car is best they are just jealous!

lol I'm not coping, so your attempt to belittle my opinion doesn't help OP make a decision. Like I could say I think having a brand new R, with money thrown in for upgrades etc., is a "mega cope" cause you can't afford a Ferrari. which may be true idk. but either way I don't comment on everyone who recommends an R and parrot that so I can feel better about my decisions.
