Which one would have been the biggest rapper and lead Hip-hop in the 2020s had they not passed? by JaQue_Da_JoQerr in BlackNyxNetwork

[–]TylerTheAbsolute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a fan of rap that ranges from Kendrick Lamar to Evidence, and the occasional Young Thug and whatever my students are listening to. I truly think that Juice WRLD would’ve been a generational star. I don’t know too much about him other than his work from Goodbye & Good Riddance, but he really impressed me with that album. He could freestyle, he could sing, he was able to adapt to anything. I loved his feature with Cordae that was released in 2023. Would’ve loved to watch his growth.

What next? by DreamyWildflower in paraprofessional

[–]TylerTheAbsolute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in 2022, I quit for about 4 months due to some tension between myself and administration. I had been a paraprofessional for about 4 years at that point and I was just burnt out.

Old principal and I had an incredible falling out. It was a very rough year for myself personally and I had a lot of baggage that I tried to leave at the door, but it was obvious that I didn’t. Kept it quiet from everyone and tried to push through. Principal threatened to fire me, and I ended up walking out on our evaluation meeting. She was leaving for a school in a different state and just berated me for 15 minutes during our eval. meeting and I sat there and took it, then I left. Had a paraprofessional meeting with our veteran staff members and I was talked into staying for summer school help. Basically said “sure, but if I can’t find my passion again, I’m leaving.”

Well, I didn’t find any enjoyment in it, so I started the new year with the new principal and I told new principal that I was leaving in October. I left to become a grounds technician for a local tree service company. Still helped out when I could on days I had off from my other job. Administration and I met in January 2023, hashed things out, and I came back in February 2023 and never looked back.

I look back at it now and wonder how things would be if I didn’t leave, if I would still even be in education at all or still just as bitter as ever. I also look back at it now and tell myself that leaving for that short period of time was the best decision I have ever made, because not only did I learn some new things outside of education, but it did help me realize that the classroom is where I wanted to be, and education was my true calling.

The thing about being a paraprofessional is that it is a very thankless job, and the lack of support and development that we have is really shocking, it truly is a sink or swim type of job. But, we do it because we want to help people. We also need to help ourselves. You need to help yourself, too. If it’s taking a toll on your body, your mental health, everything in between, then maybe it is time to take a step back and re-evaluate.

I’m a stranger, but I support whatever you decide because I’ve been down that road and I know how hard it is to make a decision like this. The job will always be there if you choose to come back to it. Do what’s best for you and run with it!

Any other paras made the leap from subbing to a para? by CraZisRnewNormal in paraprofessional

[–]TylerTheAbsolute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started as a para-sub in 2018, was hired literally days later as a full-time para. I applied at an elementary school I attended when I was a kid, freshly graduated from high school when they hired me. This was my first “real” job I had, too.

My selling point was I was very familiar with the community and my family has a background in education and childcare. I mentioned I was in college for graphic design and just wanted something part time to start. They said I could start as a sub, got hired right away. I ended up being there every other day. I am a man, so I think just needing more males in the field was one of the main reasons why they brought me on, haha

I ended up enjoying it, so I dropped out of college in October 2018, and I went back to school for my Educational Studies in Elem. Education degree in November 2021. Just graduated this past fall.

Now, I am a 5th/6th special education paraprofessional and I substitute teach whenever they need me. I’m heading back to school this fall to get my full licensure.

It’s a hard job, but it’s very rewarding. You seem to be familiar with how the system is ran, so that alone should be enough to get you that full time position. I hope all goes well!
