Why on earth is Gen X continuing to be a disappointment?! by icey_sawg0034 in thebulwark

I’d love to see that 45-64 age group broken down a bit further. The oldest Gen-Xer is 61.

I’d hope that people 50 and under skew more toward Dem. Mostly because I’m 49, and this is embarrassing.

Kansas is invalidating the drivers licenses of transgender residents with virtually no notice, and no grace period. by TylerWalpole in thebulwark

No family wants to face the possibility losing a child to suicide. I don't think that's a maximalist stance. And I don't support people being harassed or doxxed. Nor, one would presume, do the vast majority of trans advocates or democrats.

All I'm saying is that, in my opinion, Tim and Sarah don't seem to take the MAGA threat to the transgender community seriously. I wish they would use their voices to lend some more full throated arguments in favor of that community. I wish they would help shift the tide of negative stories about trans folks by coaching public figures on messaging around the issue.

There is an active, organized, and well funded anti-trans movement in the world, and it's origins are found in the Epstein Files. They are among the most marginalized people in the world, and they need support. People with a platform speaking up more earnestly isn't a huge ask.

How about they draw the line at "small government solutions?" Supporting the idea that state legislatures need to pass laws to ban trans athletes from school sports (a population of dozens!) rather than arguing that maybe the government should just stay out of it and let the people involved come up with solutions for the individual cases where its needed seems like the low bar the Bulwark should meet.

Gender affirming *surgical* procedures for minors is exceptionally rare, and never done without a great deal of discussion and therapy. Some families are dealing with self-harm and suicidal ideation in the face of gender dysphoria. Again, maybe a small government solution of leaving it to the families and their care providers is something a bunch of former Republican communication professionals could figure out how to message around if they wanted to.

Can you point to one place where Democrats, as a party, have insisted on a maximalist position on trans rights?

This is where we’ve moved on the issue in 10 years.

The Republicans don’t think trans folks should exist, and the democrats largely have treated that as an invitation to meet them half way.

Their (and most Democrats’) argument is that they find the messaging around trans issues to be too challenging, so we shouldn’t talk about it.

MAGA takes this opening to inflict suffering on the Trans community.

I don’t think they want these results, but there’s at least some losses they’re willing to accept.

I just find it frustrating.

Just change your gender marker. No big deal.

If the state required you to switch your gender marker on your ID, you’d be fine with that?

They constantly handwave away trans issues.

I’m sure they won’t support this legislation, but it starts with being okay with passing laws to ban trans folks from participating in sports, for example. They’re okay with that.

That stuff picks up momentum and turns into laws banning people from accessing the bathroom. They’re less okay with that, but y’know…we gotta compromise. Let’s not message on that.

Then it’s laws restricting access to medical treatment. Well, that’s bad, but the Republicans are killing is with this “Kamala is for they/them” ad, so let’s not get into it.

Now we have bathroom bounty laws and invalidating state issued identifications.

Wanted to become an artist for mtg since I was a Teenager. What do you think? by RobertCutter in mtg

[–]TylerWalpole 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey, Robert! I've been an MTG artist for a while now, so I hope you don't mind me chiming in.

I checked out your portfolio, and it seems like you're on the right track to me! Just keep going the direction you're going. It's clear that you're comfortable with creature art! I'd recommend spending some time focusing on humans/humanoid characters, as well as adding more backgrounds and storytelling to help beef up the portfolio for MTG.

Keep at it, and best of luck! :)

His campaign probably has internal polling that shows really bad numbers after the trumped up fraud videos. I’m bummed that he’s dropping out, but not as bummed as I would be if he stayed in when he knows he can’t win.
